Bengals have more in common without Wests Tigers than the logo.

I know that, I've followed them since the 80's. Their fan base is probably more negative than the Tigers, but that happens when you haven't won a playoff game since 1990!

Long time Bengals supporter here as well and like the tigers i am hoping a new head coach can turn the club around. We have had the team at times but not winning a play off game for so long hurts

The salary cap is a shambles. I think it's causing the most pain of all, and it's something that really shouldn't have happened - which makes it even worse. Somehow we turned a huge positive (very healthy salary cap) into a negative that will plague us for a couple of years at least. It was wasted on players who on face value weren't game breakers, and in hindsight weren't even first grade material. Packer, Reynolds and co. - these salaries are marquee level, and it's painful knowing that other clubs are more than getting there money's worth from players on similar salaries and less.

It's hard to be positive after that. Ivan took one of the best opportunities in this club's history and completely blew it. The talent was not available on the market at the time, almost everyone knew deep down these were poor value signings, and I think we are exactly where we all thought, deep down, we'd be because of that. Ivan bailing on the club took away any hope however, and sealed the situation.

Just going to have to chip away with a couple of astute signings here and there and ride this mess out.

Yeah it's a shame though about Reynolds ended up in the poor value category through no fault of his own. If he could actually stay on the field for a good length of time, I reckon we'd be a different team this year. The only games he has played this season he was MOM in both. I thought we would get a lot more out of him, I honestly had no idea he was this busted! Can't remember him being out of the Canterbury team for such long periods before he got here - just our luck he has to crash and burn once he comes here, same with McQueen.

Yeah it will be interesting, upping a guy from qb coach to head coach when he has no OC experience is a big call. He is also going to be the OC as well. I like Zac Taylor though and hopefully he can bring that Rams offensive style with him! I liked our draft so fingers crossed they pan out and the Offensive line improves.

@The_Doc Your right mate, Taylor signed McQueen.

McQueen was bad luck ....pure and simple as that ...

3 weeks after he signed he got injured

No he probably wasn't what the club needed back row wise ....but every coach involved with this club has made some horror signings

Unfortunately we seem to be a product of our own poor history of success. When Tedesco, Woods and Moses were wavering and the rest of the squad had little to offer, we were never going attract quality when the club was so unstable. When there’s not much on the market but you’ve got the $$$ in your cap you get desperate and wave cash around for long contracts. That’s where we are and is why our situation is so frustrating. We leapt from one salary cap mess into another. Bad governance from the club’s leadership team. The team we have needs to have an honest look at themselves, show a bit of accountability and play for their salaries.

Why was he announced 2 weeks after Taylor was sacked then? You can say Taylor signed him, but Cleary signed off on him. He wasn’t a bad signing at the time anyway, before he did his neck.

Nah, Chris is quoted as speaking with the traitor, who confirmed that he wanted him at the club and would not be withdrawing the offer. For some perspective, he did however withdraw the one for Moses.

I’ll probably regret this but I’m changing my tip after reading about the honest video session. Wests Tigers to win by 8.

I know in the end the CEO Pascoe signed off on the contracts but what do you do when told by coach and football manager and head of recruitment ‘this is right for dollars and we need them’???

Yeah I'm pretty sure most CEOs sign off on contracts from a governance and diligence perspective, not roster-building. Justin Pascoe is a sports business administrator not a coach or a talent scout.

Ceo's should be involved with contract negotiations and the cap management. If Pascoe is just signing of on things then we have the wrong guy.

Well, it depends on organisational structure. Pascoe may or may not be directly responsible for these things and it's silly to suggest he "must" be responsible for some specific task at Tigers.

I would expect that he's responsible for salary cap compliance, but that's only a part of overall cap management. He may have nothing at all to do with the structure of the roster and he may not negotiate the content of contracts at all.

Wasn't at least part of the JAC negotiations/departure related to the CEO being away?

Still need the footballing talent, skills and speed to win games consistently, but we just don't have it.

Reportedly, but that could be anything, it could have been that he couldn't sign off on $$$, or certain terms of the contract language.

But anyway I'm not saying Pascoe isn't involved in contracts, I'm saying we on the forum cannot be stipulating specifically which tasks are or are not part of his role.

Some people are going after Pascoe as not being a good enough CEO, but I very highly doubt they know by what KPIs the Board is actually measuring Pascoe's performance. It seems to me that Pascoe is quite well respected within the organisation, and, looking around, he's one of the few senior figures actually staying put at the moment.
