I think we shouldn’t necessarily be after a player with Matterson being released...

We should tell the Club who wants to sign him that if they want him, they must sign either J Rey, Mbye, Packer or Mcqueen at full cost...

That is probably the only way we could get rid of them. I think a club like Titans would agree to that given they could use the services of Mbye or Reynolds...

This is exactly what we should do. You can have Matterson if you take Reynolds and Packer as well.

10000000% agree with you both. Pascoe MUST insist on a bad contract going also.

Won’t work in this case he’s asking for massive coin. Player signed for 2021 after November 1st coming back is the only logical option. Being from that team or another. Brimson, Arrow, Sami or a combination of. A lot depends on the Matulino retirement.

@Kazoo-Kid Yep , it’s mental there isn’t one . The day before free agency in the NBA this year was like Christmas Eve . Then when it hit , the anticipation and frenzy that followed , was intense. The sport dominated the media cycle , and not 1 ball was bounced .
Having a draft , free agency , transfer window seems a no brainer to me

A question about drafts, as I have no experience with them. What happens to junior football if the NRL introduced a draft? What incentives would clubs have to invest in grassroots/juniors if those players end up elsewhere anyway?

They wouldn't, the NRL would have to take over junior development!

I'm really pleased @cochise that I have given you something to talk about and I knew you would be one of the 1st ones in.

Would you mind telling everyone on here how you came up with the evidence that my "1st preference is not the Wests Tigers"?

You said it yourself mate! I bolded it for you so as not to take you out of context!

If you build it @cochise they will come.

Now that our beloved coach has become 'actively' interested in the BOOMING C'town area, and as he stated C.S.S. becoming our fortress, I'm sure with the right promotion Wests Tigers will be Very Readily Accepted there Cochise.

As you already know, I have been a Wests Magpies supporter for over 50 years, and **I would love our team to be known as Wests Magpies**. And as I have already told you, I believe the Magpies days are gone as far as our N.R. L. side is concerned.

I want what I believe is the best for our Wests Tigers to go ahead in a big way.
Cheers Cochise :fa-smile-o:

Ok, fair enough @cochise: do the words I wrote following that being "AS I HAVE ALREADY TOLD YOU, I BELIEVE THE MAGPIES DAYS ARE GONE AS FAR AS OUR N.R.L. SIDE IS CONCERNED....followed by "I WANT WHAT I BELIEVE IS THE BEST FOR OUR WESTS TIGERS TO GO AHEAD IN A BIG WAY".

Why isn't that just as relevant as the words you chose to highlight?

No it is relevant mate, that is why I didn't just quote that you want us to be called the Magpies as that would have been unfair. Its just that is your second preference, that is ok, my 1st preference is to have the Wests Tigers and I will stand up for that against people who want to see that disappear.

Now come in off the grass @cochise: where have I said I want our team to be called the Magpies when I stated "I BELIEVE THE MAGPIES DAYS ARE GONE AS FAR AS OUR N.R.L. SIDE IS CONCERNED".

@Kazoo-Kid as it’s already been mentioned , the NRL would assume all responsibility. If anything it may mean more actual money going into the actual junior clubs, rather than the teams elite academy’s, which is where the funding goes now. What would be a consequence however, is you would see soccer style elite pathways, which is really some ex nrl coach player taking a couple grand out of your savings each year for little Johnny to not get drafted. Not to be negative at the end . The draft is actually a good thing

@Strongee the NRL are a joke , juniors would suffer much more , they are not experts in developing junior talent or identifying . The politics that they would have selecting players etc would be higher than any small time 2 bit organisation. Look at the perceived bias at Nrl level.

also this is the same organisation who has made it harder for clubs to bring in juniors and develop them .
The nyc was poor , removal of 2nd grade and 3rd grade comps has affected player depth and development and the biggest stuff up is ...the mandatory top 30 squads

imagine the titans , they are forced to play the duds they had in their top 30 , but could have used 2nd half of the year to blood a whole bunch of juniors fro, their system and identify talent , instead forced to use the top 30 duds who have no real pressure to perform

@Anon-lurker i actually disagree. Bringing in a draft will never happen but it would be great for junior league and drum up alot of attention. Added to that their would be clear pathways alot more talent scouting and if done properly a total department just for running it win win imo.
