Burgess retirement made official. you'd think Souths have just become the front runner for Matterson.

Fafita would be more likely imo

I really rate Leilua, he has the ability to slip tackles and offload, we need a drover’s dog to follow him through the ruck to take advantage, unfortunately nobody backs up these type of players anymore, it’s all ‘take the hit-up yourself Then play the ball’. I see similarities to Todd Payten who was referred to as a halfback playing in a front rower’s body. However, he doesn’t play 80 minutes like Matterson can.

Leilua and Toddy? That is a massive stretch.

Todd was never fat and lazy and had a great footy IQ.

Leiula is fat, lazy, and has no idea. As someone said earlier, he makes his cousin BJ look fit and smart.

Madge is not going to be able to just wave a wand and change that body shape. BJ has never been able to dp do and his cousin is far fatter.

@avocadoontoast Agree Leilua has an upside a big body that is desperately needed in the side and Madge could work wonders .. but not at the expense of Matterson a swap is not on !

What if we get Leilua and Lomax....happy with that deal?

Probably not if that's the only move we are going to make. Leilua doesn't come close to replacing Matterson. If we trade Matterson for Leilua and Lomax AND we manage to sign someone else in the middle, then it might work. But just that trade on its own doesn't work imo.

Lets not get carried away. If we snared Frizell that would be amazing imo. Lomax and Ravalawa maybe, McInnes would be a beauty too, but we've committed to others. I don't know. Tariq Sims?

Frizell would be the best scenario by some margin. It would be a genuine upgrade.

I reckon they will go for Frizell and I reckon they will get him.

The other day the same jurno said it was Lomax in a possible swap.. now he's saying Big Lucy... Safe to say, he and others really have no idea on what's happening.

Big Lucy, lol. We have a nickname now, I'm warming to the guy.
Ive been calling him Pavarotti.

I know this may be unpopular but I would be handling this very differently.
In my opinion, one of the issues we have is that it is generally felt that we are pushovers or at the very least weak in comparison to the glamour or elite teams - and to a degree we probably are; we are victim of past sins in some ways.

If I were Pascoe of Madge I would have made this a very real "line in the sand" situation for all to see - players, managers, NRL, whoever.

We signed RM in good standing and he (or manger, doesn't matter) have tried to screw us over and "bully" us into letting him go - for no real reason.

I can't see any available player out there offering WT an upgrade on RM anyway, so I would not be letting him leave. For the money he is on, he can stay and if his form or attitude is not up to scratch, he can see out his remaining contract in reserves. See what that does for his value on his next contract !

It has probably gone beyond this now to be a workable outcome but it is what I would have done from the beginning - as I said "line in the sand" stuff, WT will no longer be held hostage by player managers, players or anyone.

I know some of you will say its hypocritical to take this stand when we are also trying to move on Mats/Packer/Josh etc etc but from what I understand this is by mutual agreement and we have said we will be honouring any of these players deals if they can't/won't be taken up by others.

As I mentioned in another thread, if a player has the right to ask for an upgrade after one year of a three year deal because he performed above expectations - we should also be able to reduce a players contract for poor performance - be careful what you wish for....

Totally agree

Stuff him

If he doesn't aim up next 2 years it's career down the drain

Would love to see the tigers make a big stand on this

@tiger05premier It's absolutely essential we take a stand on this because if we don't, any contract we sign from this point on will be virtually worthless. No point in the club negotiating a deal that protects both itself and a player if everyone knows that all you have to do to gain an unscheduled upgrade or get out of a deal with Wests Tigers is to "pull a Matterson". He stays and he plays if not in first grade, then in Reggies. Will not be worth much to other teams after a season or two of reserve grade and if he fails to put in, who'd want him anyway!

I think we should wait and see what happens in the next few weeks. There are other players from other clubs who are contracted and testing the market it is not a unique situation, although the motives may be different. I would much rather players at the club who are playing for the right reasons instead of keeping Matterson for spite.

I'm guessing within the next week or two, this situation will be finalised.

They release Lomax AND we get a choice of one of their better juniors.

Do not forget who Madge did sign the plodder of the decade .. so do not rule anything out !

Look, you forgive a coach one signing when he doesnt really know who he has at the club he has moved to. Happens a lot. Ill judge him on his signings from here on in after he has been here and seen what we have and need.
