Sorry if this has been covered, but... what happened to the concept of us only releasing Matterson if we get something in return?

Not all concepts become a reality........

Cleary used ET quite well at lock as a middle defender and a link between the halves. It depends on the makeup of the team how valuable that is. Brooks and Benji are much better at finding each other with a long pass than they were a few years ago.

JT used him as the link man when he first came in 2016. He was a revelation and forum favourite. His role changed under Cleary.

It tailed off under JT as well. I remember his passing game well when he first came over from Penrith. It did get eroded from his game under JT and was non-existent under Cleary.

He was also our Player of the Year for 2017, so you're probably both right. I love Elijah as a player and he was great at the end of the season...... BUT, he really does benefit from having some big boppers around him.

All I know, after looking at the list of who is off contract for next year, is that there had better be some dominos about to fall.

No decent signings off that list. Period.

Sure matto was a turd, sure Big Ben was overpaid, sure masters had an off year...but I think we need to Remember these 3 players were some of our better ones, we can’t afford to not make a god singing and for packer to be out all year, me personally I’d really like to hear Twals perspective on the matto issue, see if he still aligned to that scum

Twal and Aloiai's friendship with him does worry me. If the players went off him, there could be a divide there.

Likely more being part of the God club than anything else.

We still have ET, McQueen and Reynolds who it would be great to get rid of because there price is no where near their value.

Packer and Mbye are probably overpaid, but I believe we can get something out of these guys.

I want what you’re on. ET was one of our best towards the back end of the yer

I want what you're on. If you think he is anywhere near the dollars the half a million + we are paying him then you are kidding. He spent a fair bit of time this year in reserve grade. Lets see how much interest he gets when his contract expires.

I couldn’t care less how much interest he gets. All I know is he finished the year strong, and to put him in the same sentence as McQueen shows complete cluelessness. I’m not advocating he becomes an immortal, but he’s earned some credit . And he did spend a bit of time in CC, which is why he deserves that credit. Because he was out of favour, and unlike Packer and McQueen, didn’t throw in the towel. He fought his way back into the side and was one of our best performers.

He played okay at the end of the year but for a guy on $500-600k a year he gives us very little output. Guys on that coin should not be spending any time in reserve grade. The fact he even had to come back from that is a problem, and he should of been well dropped before that.

He has been nothing more than solid for the last few years. Even one of "our best" at the end of year...I am not sure how much that says. He was okay, hardly a game breaker. Good defender, adds very little in attack. If somehow there was an opportunity to move him on, hed be one of the first guys in the roster you would, given the quality of the player you could get with his money. If he was on $200k, it would be a different story.

Maybe but he is not on 500 - 600k either.

Oh realy? I was under the impression it was a decent and long contract when he signed.

I don't know any exact individual contract figures, but simple math says that the exorbitant figures for many of the traitor's signings bandied about on here, when tallied, do not fit anything like within the cap. Cannot imagine that $500k, let alone plus, is a realistic figure for Elijah.

Don’t tell me we’ve won the race for David Fifita? Now that would be WTF! Lol

If Fifita leaves the Broncos it will be to a better club, which isn't us.

Bit disappointing that it appears we got nothing else out of this besides freeing up a heap of cash.

We don't need the distraction continuing. Cut him loose and good luck. With that attitude he needs it. His credibility has taken a beating. Don't think for a second that other clubs haven't been watching.
Orr's have been exposed to be as grubby as Issac Moses.

Trust that the sensitivity surrounding this matter would ensure some level of confidentiality. I believe salary cap relief more than his current contract value would be most practical.

@pawsandclaws1 its a real shame to see him leave us, as I really liked the way he played was by far are best forward. but now I hope he does a acl and misses the whole next season, I know its now the right thing to say, but what he has done to our club really has pissed me of.

now all that is left

is for the players to aboslutely WRECK him, when we verse the club he signs with

If he is going to Parra what a game the Easter Monday will be!

He is the down there with the low of the lowest. The disrespect he treats his teammates with, even on social media. Just doesn’t even respond to their comments, but replies to all his roosters mates. I know it’s something small but it speaks volumes. Whatever club this guy goes to, I hope the boys get in there dirty with him and get in his face. What Josh A did to Sam B this year, he needs to do again to that turd. pisses me off.

I’m hearing we have entered into an agreement with Canberra to loan Soliola twice a year and give him some of the Slater treatment.

Matterson is best mates with Alex Twal and their partners are best friends also.

I can't see us smashing him.

Hell, we have yet to even put a hard hit on Moses or Tedesco in multiple games so far.

If you glance at Matterson's social media, basically the only Tiger he even put a photo up of specifically was Twal.

https://www.instagram.com/ryan_matto/?hl=en

Will be interesting to see how Twal responds through all this.

Matterson release is purely business, players didn't want him there & we didn't want to pay a dollar more for him. If a deal was done prior to today it would of been, but he was always going to be released before the new NRL financial year started. We no longer contribute any $$ towards Matterson.
In relation to Lomax appears Dragons have put their foot down for 2020.......but don't rule out 2021.

Can understand that if he was on the nose with the playing group why the club would release him. If the guy is a pariah it's an untenable situation. Rather surprised that the others turned on him, usually they'd not take it personally and understand it's part of the game now.

There's other reasons players went off him & the way he carried on didn't go down well. Bridges burnt.

And looks like he is going to a club that deserves him. Hope he destabilizes things yhere.

Parra has definitely had it's fair share of fevered egos over the years. Hayne, Moses, Matterson and if you're Demps, Luke Burt.

Don’t forget the ego-centric Corey Norman, that nutcase Edwards and Gutho’s a bit of a twat also.

Again, have to say that Tigers didn't do particularly well in this situation. I don't think they should have released him. It's not a good situation but the club had a long time between now and the season opener to work out a trade. Matterson is a valuable player and would be worth something. Presumably clubs figured the Tigers were bluffing and would release him prior to November 1st so weren't willing to offer much for him. They were right. If Matterson doesn't turn up to train then you fine him and sit him out. If players have a problem with him playing, they need to get over it. If it has salary cap consequences then so be it. At least get a solid young player or a workmanlike player. Getting nothing shows we're weak, and everyone can and does walk all over us. Bad decision.

So what you’re saying is hold onto a player that won’t be here next season to gain an advantage on another club that wants him, at the detriment of picking up a player in the “hot” trading period that will add something to our team for the upcoming season?!?

Makes perfect sense!!!
