That’s a bad attitude . Everything is up for discussion, because if you don’t , that’s how bad ideas begin . We should always be pulling ourselves apart , and putting it back together . I’m not saying listen to that garbage idea , but like I said bad ideas are just as important as good ones . How do you know which way the compass points otherwise . Like what’s your reference ?

A fact is a fact. Do we want to end up like America?

This is the problem. I don't have an answer to censorship but I know listening to these loony tunes ideas isn't helping anyone at all.

It's also highly disrespectful to people who are dying or getting sick from this virus.

. But banning someone who doesn’t think so , rather than making them see reason , or at least try and help to plant some ideas in thier head , well it’s pretty indicative of the rest of the world

You cannot reason with these people. That is the issue. They have loony tunes ideas and they are nuts. They can easily go and get scientific information that disproves what they are stating but they don't.

So you can't reason with them.

It’s been decided you can’t come on here and spread dangerous conspiracies that can harm society. I’m fine with that too.

I don't believe that all people are equally intelligent and emotionally stable and educated. Unfortunately people that are on the lower scale of critical thinking ability on topics can go and find crazy unproven theories on the Internet and spread that nonsense everywhere.

I don't see how you can allow these weird views complete carte blanche within society.

Do we allow outright racism or homophobia ? Why is spreading lies acceptable ?

I am not a fan of censorship but we have to draw some lines somewhere. The question isn't if censorship is acceptable. The question is where do you draw the line.

Sure, but where do you draw the line and who decides to draw that line? Take my recent to and fro with Earl here (no I dont want to reignite it). I was discussing the Lab Leak Hypothesis. Now to some, including Earl, it may seem like a conspiracy but there is actually very good science backing it up ( and the WHO are currently making a sham investigation into it as we speak). I admit that it is a slippery slope to "an intentional weaponised release" or "COVID does not exist", but IMO the problem with censorship is always the question of who gets to decide on what the boundary is.

Anyone with half a brain knows what you're posting is rubbish and you'd think you would have learned after spending a week on the sidelines for posting such nonsense. But hey, if you want to tempt fate, go right ahead and post something else made up by some conspiracy theorist backed up with no evidence - because I'll sure as hell make sure you don't do it again on this forum.

Censorship doesn’t change minds so you’ll be shocked to know I haven’t given up on my views and suddenly agree with the world according to Willow

You call it sensorship - I call it trolling and looking for a reaction. Either way, find somewhere else do to it.

Stinks of censorship.

Yeah, a hard one though as there are duty of care issues and if we are protected from disguised swearing, I cannot see how leaving a lot of that stuff in a very serious thread topic can be justified.

I have little problem though if such was in the dedicated conspiracy theories one as one enters on that premise.

well we are not going to so poll if that's what you are asking..as it's always been the moderation team makes the decision..sometimes we all don't agree but will support the decision made...

In this case there where numerous requests to stop positing in relation to Covid that had upset people who knew people affected by the desease..despite those requests the posting of misinformation continued..so there is your line..

Definitely not suggesting a poll and I respect the job and position of the Mods on this forum. I think they get it right most of the time and if there are a few times I raise an eyebrow, so be it. FWIW I totally disagree with what was posted but Im always wary of censorship.

This is all part of science. Science changes all the time. I think we should be clear though that these conspiracy theorists want science to be less rigorous.

***This is all part of science. Science changes all the time***. I think we should be clear though that these conspiracy theorists want science to be less rigorous.

This is 100% correct. The most dangerous and erroneous concept is "Scientific consensus" it is simply not how science works. The scientific process is the constant challenging of hypothesis, attempting to tear it down and only after falsification is shown to be impossible does it become a theory.

For example, the following article by a doctoral researcher at a top institution lists the progress of the lab leak hypothesis from "conspiracy theory" to one of the most likely sources, including a list of scientists who have previously published articles supporting the "wet market" hypothesis who have changed their mind to the possibility of the "lab leak".

Let me guess , it must be truly a a riot in the US , Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon lovers will claim that the Vaccine brought the numbers down .......Biden lovers will claim it's his attention to detail

I agree with this. It's fine to have dissenting opinions. The point to me is though you need to work through issues using science. So you test and you provide facts and you work through issues to get closer to reality.

The problem with conspiracy theorists is they go the other way.

Yes and your to and fro with Earl was not censored. Why? Probably because you were actually trying to legitimately debate a point and not just posting links to articles littered with deliberate misinformation by people with clear agendas and accompanying the links with baseless comments that were insensitive to others.
They weren't trying to debate or understand anything, just spread misinformation and then, in accordance with their playbook, spout off about free speech and seek to claim the victimhood mantle when anyone was critical of the content they posted.

I completely disagree with the conspiracy theory garbage , but banning him ? What’s the go with that ? Shouldn’t it be open to discuss , and therefore disprove. Smarter people than you or I , swear that the opinion of your enemy has just as much value as the opinion of your friend . Sometimes more so .
It’s none of my business , but what if someone puts up an article about Scientology ? How does that get rated ? Like where is the line ? Because that has as much ground in reality as a story about a bloke who walked on water , and turned water in wine , and arose from the dead . Or that the coronavirus is all a hoax . Especially when this is the thread about coronavirus .

Well said Strongee . It's an open forum. He has said nothing warranting a ban.

I hate blocking and banning people . I’d rather have a fight / arguement / debate with someone . Because then, like what happens the other day , you can get various perspectives , and correct some thoughts or behaviours your may have been doing . And a lot of the time you feel validation because of these opposing views . It’s all relevant . You need bad ideas to point a way to the good ones . Otherwise you just have ideas , and no idea whether they’re good bad or indifferent.

The problem is Strongee no one is open to debate or even considering another person’s view on this particular subject. There is a bunch of people who think they are right and that’s it, end of story. Everyone else is a looney apparently.

Having an alternate view to the majority doesn’t warrant a ban imo, but I’m not the boss. There are many more people on here who could be banned for their name calling and personal attacks on other people’s characters, which I think is actually a valid reason spelled out in the Forum rules, but there ya go.

That was my whole point . I think you and I are talking more generally about the larger issue of censorship , using this as a micro example of it. Where most guys just want this guy to shut up . I just find the arguement that this guys is saying. Easy stuff so ignore him to be such a closed minded way of thinking . How’s it up to anyone else to decide whether or not “crazy people” have the mental capacity to think objectively , unless you’re a licensed psychologist.
To me it’s no different to reading John Smith on Facebook saying , Benji was the best defender the tigers ever had . How can you let him go “ . And you can use the dangerous ideas breeds dangerous people arguement . I just don’t think that’s true . The messenger means way more than the message . You still need a David Karesh or Donald Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon type .
Some guy voices insane ideas on a tigers forum doesn’t need to quieted . Even if some people have unfortunately lost family members .
I don’t know that seems like a better way moving forward . We are all doomed if this is the way moving forward , where we have to censor people because we can’t trust regular people to make educated intelligent decisions .

Yea , I did that . And paws and I worked it out through conversation and alternate thinking to our initial thought . It’s literally proving my point , that if your end goal is to find common ground then you will find it . Even you have to go through a bumpy ride to get there .
You have to give people the ability to do that . I mean if the guy is spamming and stirring of course , that’s not contributing to the conversation, but if he means well , and feels passionate about his idea , no matter how flawed, we should always keep those communication lines open .
