I was at woolwoths today and I've just returned home, The place was very busy, there were many people in every aisle and a line of people waiting at the checkouts.i was trying my best to avoid close contact with the people but it seemed almost impossible.

Which then made me think are these strict lockdown laws **seriously flawed?** It seems if they are then it would make those tough rules that are applied as being very **debatable** and mostly pointless.

How would checking in and wearing a mask in a **crowded** woolworths be **any different** than checking in and wearing a mask in those places that are banned to operate?

I work at woolworths, in Parra LGA. When lockdown started I was expecting an initial rise in sales followed by a steady decline. But there has actually been a steady increase since the inital rise after lockdown.
The non-compliance is rife. I would say probably about 10% of people dont wear masks over their face. There is minimal social distancing between customers and virtually none by customers with staff.
Im not sure if mandated or simply recommended but there is meant to be only one per household shopping on any given day. There is meant to be no meeting up with people from other households to shop together or even catching up with a friend you bump into at the shops.
If the police were to start issuing fines for any of this there would literally be 100s of fines a day from each store.

Don't ask me mate. I'm not here to stick up for them. My personal opinion is you were screwed over. I think it's rude.

I'll read between the lines and state that they are petrified of the virus and they don't want to be seen as weak especially when we are in the middle of a disaster they are being blamed for.

Your answer would suggest to me that you do accept that there is a serious flaw with the lockdown rules.

What is the alternative ? Should we all go on a hunger strike ?

Our local Woolies was like this the week or two before lockdown when the mask restrictions came in. The management at our local did nothing to enforce it and it was clearly just a matter of time before they got a case - it was absolutely negligent.

It's also why Woolworths features so prominently on exposure lists.

We have three Woolworths within 10km of us and every day we see additional cases added to the close/casual contact lists. Not surprisingly, they've had staff infected who worked entire weeks while contagious.

It's been the case since the initial Bondi case. NSW were complacent because we went so long without local transmission. Social distancing, hand sanitiser, masks, check in codes all ignored.

Delta changed everything and both the Government and the Medical advisers, in hindsight, have been staggeringly wrong with their responses.

In Bathurst even before this latest lockdown there was compliance with wearing face masks of about 99%.
Most stores including the major supermarkets wouldn’t let you in the door if you weren’t wearing a face mask.
Anyone walking downtown without a mask would be talked to or abused for being arrogant and not complying with wearing a mask.

Yeah, my parents live at O'Connell and they couldn't comprehend some of the stories ive told them about what has happened at Woolworths here compared to their shopping experiences.
TBF there is very few that dont have a mask at all it is just the absolute ridiculous amount of people who wear it under their chin or some other pointless fashion.
We're not allowed to ask people to fix their mask up or similar even in a friendly non-judgmental manner. Evidently due to too many instances of abuse towards staff trying to enforce the rules. Seems to be a question of what is safer potential Covid exposure or potential abuse? There has been a few instances of (minor) physical abuse (to go with the daily verbal abuse) of staff at our store in the past during the whole toilet paper panic, as well as a customer pulling a knife on another customer so i guess it is a fair question.

Well, who are we supposed to "blame"? Perhaps if we had a less flawed and corrupt Premier and a Health Minister who was anything other than an arrogant tw*t, we might buy into their message?

I don't blame anyone. I reckon it's COVID. It's just that people act how they act and COVID does what it does.

Well, who are we supposed to "blame"? Perhaps if we had a less flawed and corrupt Premier and a Health Minister who was anything other than an arrogant tw*t, we might buy into their message?

I don't blame anyone. I reckon it's COVID. It's just that people act how they act and COVID does what it does.

And, I think that people would act differently if we were led by people who were not fundamentally flawed in their character and record.

I reckon that is too harsh but it's your call.
