Cricket Season Thread

I liked the Poms approach.
Could not believe how Brook got out.
The declaration is a doozy - but opens up the game.
Now it's in the Aussies court.
We just have to play normal test match cricket and attempt to build a very big first innings score and take as much time as we need. If we can keep them in the field for two days that will take a lot of sting out of them.

This first test will determine how effective Bazball will be for the series. The Aussie need to squash it now

I was watching this instead of the footy last night and i can't believe England declared after i went to bed.I know some people will agree with it but i consider it to be a dumb decision (Not that i am complaining) if our captain did that he would not be captain for very long.
It will be very interesting from here as hopefully we can bat for 2+ days and build a very solid lead and force England to try and save the game in the last 2 days
Certainly a risk and opens the game right up. If they get 1 or 2 wickets because the batters are tired from fielding all day, then it’s a master stroke. Baz ball wont work if there’s no chance of the opposition winning, especially on a road.

I hope it backfires spectacularly on the poms. I don’t think the aggression and intensity is sustainable across a 5 test series.

Hazlewood bowled well, would liked to seen Starc against the Poms. Glad we have Lyon. Overall it‘s a flat deck and I think our bowling will prove to be better than there’s. I think it’s a mistake for England to play on flat pitches at home. This will suit the Aussies.

I also hope it backfire. However I’m glad they are playing this style. A four of the first ball and so on..keeps thing exciting . Looking forward to this series

Leaving Starc out a mistake we go 4 fast bowlers all right arm all 130-140 km
Starc left arm and 140 -150 km
Also @+×? To Foxtel They rave about their cricket channel and say they " don't have rights " More like they don't pay
How do you get to watch daytime replays or highlights on 9 Gem ???

If you download 9Now app I think you can watch different sessions?

Two very good 50’s for Usman and Head.
The crowd has sensed these two are getting on top of the attack and have responded with their singing and chanting.
Need to turn both efforts into big hundreds.

Excellent performance from Khawaja unbeaten at the end of the 2nd day with a personal score of 120+ and the pommie score only 80 away. Not the first time he has performed like this and a superb fighting unbeaten century.
This makes me feel a lot better than the abortion of a football match i suffered watching last night

Yes. Khawaja very well done, nice innings.

Agree re footy, which is why I can’t sleep and am replying at this ridiculous hour.

I still can't believe Khwaja was dropped for a majority of his career. Serious kudos to him for sticking around.

I'm a bit torn about the early Day 1 declaration. I don't think it's too dumb an idea. I can't imagine the last two wickets adding more than 50 max but the chance of taking an early wicket at the end of the day is quite high especially since we know that it's going to become more batter friendly as the test progresses.

In saying that, I think it's very likely this test goes down to the wire with 50 runs required to win with 3 wickets in hand. England media will have a field day if they lose the game like that.

Bazzball is a media hype expression.
Coach McCullum is simply asking the Poms to play with aggression, intent and no fear.
Which they are doing rather successfully.
And it's what the Aussies have been doing forever.

Well, this first Test has been very interesting.
Who would have thought the country possessing the number 1 (Labuschagne), number 2 (Smith) and number 3 (Head) and number 9 (Khawaja) Test ranked batters in the world, as well as the number 3 (Cummings) and number 7 (Lyon) Test ranked bowlers in the world would struggle to keep up with England? They have dominated this Test Match and only individual performances have kept us in touch.
Coming into day 5, we are again the outsider for victory, requiring 174 runs for victory with 7 wickets in hand.
Heavy rain is predicted up until lunch to make it that much harder as well.
It’s a shame that our top order has failed again. This innings should have been owned by the two best batsmen in the world. They both succumbed meekly. Marnus may as well have not even played this game such was his insignificance with the bat, whilst Smith resumed his shocking stat of not scoring a second innings 50 since 2019!

Usman, Head, Green and Carey vs Anderson, Broad and Robinson.
I think one of these teams will win, with the draw seeming unlikely at this stage. Good game.
