Cricket Season Thread

Very proud of the boys. We've beaten a world class side in straight sets. We've shown the perfect combination of skill, determination, concentration, heart and mongrel. The poms have been battered and demoralised. We've bowled them out 6 times in a row. We've scored 7 centuries to their 1\. This has been a classic arse kicking….lets keep the foot on their throats. Lets destroy them 5-0.
Bring on Boxing Day...

The key is not to let up on the Poms now, the Saffas will not show this much complacency. That will be the real showing of where we sit in the Test realm.

I think the good thing is we have a break before the next Test

It will help stop any complacency ( I hope ) and we can refocus

Great effort though Australia , I thought it would be a series or two before we won the Ashes back

The WACA as a playing surface is so unique that it would be a real shame to lose it. But I've read many supporters who go to the WACA and have been to other cricket grounds, and just the poor facilities for the spectators. The ground has been left behind in regards to developments though I'm not surprised that's the case as it's only ever a cricket ground so it misses out on government funding as a multi-purpose venue.

You're right Peach … I've been to the WACA and I don't rate it much above North Sydney Oval. Needs an Adelaide Oval style makeover .... But don't touch the scoreboard. I love the old scoreboards but not many left now.

The last game of cricket I watched from the old SCG hill was when Alan Lamb belted 17 off a Bruce Reid Over to give England a very unlikely win. Only other time I sat up there was in '81 when Easts belted Wests 41-5 in the semi finals. Love the atmosphere up there but not many happy memories ….. Maybe they should have kept the dog track at the Gabba !

Allan Lamb, another part time Englishman.

Plenty more where he came from… Quite possibly Garry Ballance (a Zimbo) and Boyd Rankin (Irish) could get a test spot before the end of the series. As it is there one in-form bat was born and raised in NZ...

I don't know if they'll make too many changes. Often changes are made and the sides performance doesn't get better in these situations.

I'll be surprised if Broad plays. I had a badly bruised foot that kept me out for ages. It's pretty much impossible to sprint on and bowling would be very tough on him.

Ballance may come in for Prior such is the poor form of Prior. KP they wouldn't drop but may get pushed to retire I feel if his attitude is the same. In saying that, he could come out and smash us in both these tests and I wouldn't at all be surprised.

Yeah just heard that. What a weak bastard to desert his mates when they are looking down the barrell of a series whitewash. Thats 2 guys now who have shown they most probably were not in the right frame of mind to tour here and both have let their side down.

Interesting decision from Swann. There is talk that Panesar while playing for Wests yesterday, was saying he'll be playing Boxing Day with Swann being dropped. The Aussies have attacked him this tour and he has had some elbow issues. At his age of 34 I'm not awl fully surprised he has retired as when you step back, it does make some sense. To play in Melbourne and Sydney would be to take away the opportunity of the next spinner to play if he was no longer interested in playing for his country. I admire his decision.

Have to say I agree here. No motivation to try an go out with a win or anything, just pull up stumps now that the series is gone.

Agree , but trying to bowl to Cook's ridiculous field settings wouldn't have been fun

Peaches comment could be close to the mark .

I thought Monty should of played in Perth , he is far more dangerous in Australia with the extra bounce

He is one of the leaders of the squad, and was spruiking about Englands spine of which he was considered apart of before the series started.

I dont see it as an unselfish decision one bit. Panesar is very ordinary with bat and ball. Swann has weakened the side and dropped his lollies because the Aussies have attacked him this series. They were shouting from the rooftops how they would beat us again on our own turf. Now we have seen 2 senior members go home. Very little ticker amongst this group. Thats why we see them further embarrassed this series.

As for Swann, pathetic way to end your career. I hope the tabloids are ready to smash him at the airport.

If you want to see a great catch , check out 42 year old Brad Hogg's catch

Don't want to give too much away but it was very similar to a certain former NSW and Australian's opener catch from many years ago that has been replayed a million times
