We need more of this..

Iron Gloves had more ticker than this entire bunch of current heartless ,overpaid fairies

The bloke identified so much talent and worked with McGrath ,Warne ,McGrath etc

Good luck Marshy , enjoy your retirement , you earned it

Rod Marsh is to Australian Cricket what Bob Fulton is to NSW Origin.
Great players in their time, legends….useless in their work post playing careers at these particular appointments.

Rod Marsh was one of the main instigators of the internal clique which resulted in Australian cricket being diabolical in the mid 80s. He has been, from people I have spoken too, brilliant in his role with the AIS Cricket Academy and mentoring of young players.

History will treat him well. What a cricketer.

Well if I were a selector I'd go with I Adelaide

Warner Khawaja Finch Smith Ferguson MMarsh Neville Starc Swepson Hazelwood Lyon 12th man Mennie

Then in Brisz
Warner Khawaja Finch Smith SMarsh MMarsh Neville Starc Cummings Hazelwood and either Swepson or Lyon (whoever bowled better in Adelaide)

Here is a list of the younger candidates and their first class averages

Honestly if you are not averaging at least 45 in the first class arena you probably are going to struggle at Test level

Useless post career????Did amazing things with the Australian institute of cricket in Adelaide, also set up the Uk institute of cricket that basically turned Pommy cricket around. A selector is as good as the cattle he or she has at their disposal most of the time. Its the system that is letting Aussie cricket down, a few years ago a kid would cut his teeth playing shield against the best. Nowdays shield is just a small step up from grade. Also with all the limited over stuff kids do not learn how to build a innings, its all Sydney all the bush stuff.

Yeah right

Marsh has been involved in identifying talent and working with the likes of Warne ,McGrath ,Gilchrist and turned English cricket around with their Cricket Institute

People need to be looking at what is happening at Shield level and scheduling

The players need at least 2-3 shield games under their belts before a home Test series

If you treat the Sheffield Shield comp like crap it will turn out crap players

Hoping young Renshaw will be our answer SC , kid looks like he can build an innings

Maybe not today or tomorrow , but in the future

But the problem is the kid probably wants to play as much cricket as possible and doesn't want to miss playing 20/20 and that's when the issues occur

Patterson's average for the last 12 months (last year's Sheffield Shield and this year's so far) is 53.
He also averaged 74 in the Winter series against South Africa A.
I think he might have his nose in front of the rest, just.
This round of Shield starting today could be interesting.

Possibly , who was in the South African A squad ??

The sheffield shield was once the hardest domestic cricket comp in the world by miles. It now is a small step up from grade so the kids are not learning how to go into survival mode with the bat or bowl at fourth stump ball after ball. They all want to have a dash at every ball or bowl a different ball every delivery. Test cricket is a game of grit and patience and that seems to be missing in heaps at present with our Aussie cricketers.

In saying the above, do not take anything away from the SA boys, their bowling attack has sadly bowled a loose ball in two tests and their fielding has been top notch

It also helped when it wasn't being pushed aside to accommodate the Big Beat Off.

The game has been eroded at grassroots.

Patterson is highly regarded. If he performs well in the upcoming Shield game he may well get a call up to the Test team!!

Its funny you mention that guys , watched Crash Craddock on the Back Page recently talking about Jacques Kallis in the nets

Kallis faced 20 balls he said , and Kallis didn't attempt to play one shot , just practised letting balls go

Can you picture any of our batsmen doing that ??
