Des

Bulldogs spent over $10m on their football department this year not including the cap.
I can't imagine WT having anywhere near that amount to spend on Des and his crew.

When you see huge figures like that being thrown about it makes you realize that our club did pretty well considering we run off the smell of an oily rag in comparison.
The Bulldogs fork out all that money and finish 1 point ahead of us on the ladder.

These so called super coaches are a myth in my opinion.

Des, Bellamy, Robinson and Bennet are only super coaches because they only coach for the powerhouse clubs, who can rort the TPA system to develop a big name player roster.

Put Des in charge of Newcastle in 2017 for example and he will do no better Nathan Brown will given the players they have.

And because they only coach for rich clubs they command million dollar salaries.

Very well said tigerap. Have yet to see a coach win a premiership with a substandard roster.
As you say, give any of the "supercoaches" a dud team and they won't be able to get much more out of them than a supposed crap coach.

Not disagreeing, but i think our 2005 team while not substandard wasn't seen as a team that was going to take out the GF and Sheens got them there. Benji and RF where technically rookies, Prince was an injury prone discard, our pack was small so and so on. Would a lesser coach have gotten them there who knows but IMO probably not.

Absolutely mate. Have posted that before in other threads that WT in '05 had probably the weakest team (on paper at least) out of any team to win the premiership in the last 2 or 3 decades. Was a master performance from Sheens to mould that team like he did.

Well the big bulldog bow wow pow wow is this arvo 4pm. Big blue at the Kennell, a re-run of our Farah/Taylor shenanigans.

Seems like 90% want Hasler gone. Christ it must be nice to be in a position where routinely making it deep into the finals series isn't good enough.

I think they want Des out because he has spent a billion on the football operation without really getting close to the holly grail. If you compare the dollars he has spent to get basically one more win than our man Taylor you could probably understand why the board are getting jumpy.

The guy has had a war chest the size of a house compared to the shoe box we gave Taylor. Not saying Des can't coach but like all coaches he is as good as the cattle at his disposal

Dogs' NRL coach Hasler avoids axe: reports
By AAP

Des Hasler has been given a stay of execution and will remain as coach of Canterbury next NRL season after fronting a Bulldogs board meeting, according to reports.

The Seven and Nine networks as well as News Corp Australia are also reporting board member and club legend Steve Mortimer has resigned after the meeting on Friday afternoon at ANZ Stadium.

Hasler, due to come off contract at the end of next season, had been under pressure to keep his job despite leading the Bulldogs to two grand finals and finishing in the top eight in each of his five years at the club.

When your spending $10m a year on your football department and earning $1.2m a year, and your team is playing a brand of football that stopped working 2 years ago , then your board should be asking tough questions of you.

Some clubs make semis and hold their coach accountable, other clubs dont make semis and the club talks about extending the coachs contract before the season even starts. Makes you wonder.
