Drugs, sex, domestic violence: football’s cover-up

What’s the deal with Sam text about roosters player waiting at his house then said something about his own dad?

He was referring to how his father would have dealt with the issue back in Dewsbury. It's a tough area of Yorkshire.

Interesting comment and he felt the need to bring it up.

Anyone know What’s the deal with his dad ?

His dad died from motor neuron disease. Burgess lived with his father and looked after him. His brothers lived with their mother.

Burgess has to appear in the Moss Vale court on Nov 16th...I live about 300 metres around the corner from the court house....I think I will go down the coast for the day while the circus is in town...

You should paint on a black eye and say he hit you getting out of his car .....and then hand the press the empty vials that fell out of his car

A comment on the Warren indicated the NRL are going to interview Jason Clark in Warrington.

Yeah it is reported on the SMH website that he was called to Burgess' home during Sam's alleged bender.

I would say the majority of supporters from every club would hope you are right.Turdberg was a terrible administrator and had a massive questionmark in his time at the dogs(Barba just for one) so very little in his administration of the NRL was suprising. The stench of favouritism was always appearing to happen under his watch.

Leaving aside the DV allegations as it is never acceptable and if proven in court he should be deported.

Souths should have the medical retirement reviewed against them for the cover up, as it was always based on the player never being able to play again and in this instance it looks to be a cover up for other serious issues as he suggested only last week that he could make a comeback.

They should have it included as part of their penalty against the salary cap until 2023 based of his contract. That hurts the club also with recruitment and retention for the part Crowe and Richardson have played in the drama.

The doctors should be deregistered based off the suggested evidence in the article.

This to me is a watershed moment on the New NRL leadership to see whether they have the stones to make the correct call or just sweep it under the carpet as did their predecessors.

Maybe they will not want to dig to deep in fear of finding some nasty skeltons. Although with the police involved they might not have any choice

Totally agree. All the apparent good work V'landys has done will count for nothing if Souths get away with this.

Don't believe in deportation for dual citizens, what ever the crime may be.

Sam needs to be held accountable for anything that he has done, though I see that as almost wholly related to his DV and drug fuelled child abuse. The club and it's agents need to be penalised for their role in any alleged cover up, particularly so if there is a relationship between these incidents and subsequently abusing the medical retirement arrangements.

Still, if the drug use was at addiction levels, as well as solely social type and use, then I believe that Burgess should have been able to have been stood down for as long as necessary without penalty, or be retired on those grounds if approached in an honest manner.

I don't necessarily subscribe to deportation but I have no issue with revoking Australian citizenship if they have another citizenship available.

Part of the citizenship pledge is to uphold and obey the laws of Australia. I've always felt if people break that pledge they give up their rights to citizenship. Essentially they go back to being a visitor and if they want to permanently settle here they need to go through the process again.

Without wanting to be too precious, citizenship is a privilege and if you're welcomed into the country it's not too much to ask that you honour your word to abide by the law.

Sorry, i don't agree with this logic,
So this logic about revoking a persons citizenship
means that this rule should also have been applied to all of those politicians who did'nt declare that they were dual citizens before the last election, sorry it does not make sense.
a citizen is a citizen.

I'm not looking for agreement, just expressing an opinion. I'm also not stating it should be mandatory but an option should exist.

As far as the politician are concerned, if they were originally citizens of another country, pledged to obey the laws of Australia and then broke them then yes, there should be an option to revoke their citizenship. I'm not sure if any of them actually broke the law so I don't see how it would apply to them anyway. They were ineligible to stand for Parliament but that doesn't suggest they broke the law.

Clearly we don't want the circumstance where someone loses their citizenship for running a red light, but if someone is accused of a serious crime - the most obvious examples being terrorism against Australia, murder, rape etc - there should be an OPTION to revoke their citizenship.

I'm probably a bit old fashioned but I believe is someone pledges their word to do something they should do it.

Good comment voice_of_reason i totally understand your thoughts and good intentions but Unless they feel ashamed and leave themselves
i think the national, international legalities and human rights issues would make it very difficult for any citizen to be deported,

A lot of this is going to be very hard to prove. Even if the doctor called senior management from the Burgesses house to ask for instructions, how do you prove what was discussed?

The doctor will probably take the blame and become very rich for it.

If a call did occur, it is enough to confirm contact between officials, one placed inside the house if the allegations are correct, at that time. Someone may confirm this alleged incident had to be reported to the NRL Integrity Unit? From what was reported in the press, Abo said the allegations were new. V'landys said the Integrity Unit previously investigated some issues. I found that to be an interesting comment.
