Eels finally lose 12 points

I felt sorry for the Melbourne fans that were gutted when they could not play for points, but as the NRL CEO I feel more gutted about how their attendance fell after the decision was announced.
To all the Parra fans, I say just keep paying your hard earned!!

Nothing else could happen to Parra this year, right????
Sorry, WRONG !!!!!!
News this morning that Corey Norman is being investigated over a sex video that has been hawked around .
Not sure if there is anything that the league can do, as it was reported to be with everyone's full consent, but it is the last thing that Parra needed at the moment.
There was a mention of Segaryo in the report as well, which could explain his departure from the Panthers
Some of these blokes never learn

The NRL was weak. Parra are just a couple of wins below them. They had an awful culture of systematic cheating, repeatedly tried to lie and cover their asses when they were getting caught and get a measly 12 points and come cash? They're still uncovering more and more of the deceitful crap they were trying to pull, yet the punishment was already handed down based on previous evidence.

Should have been no points for the entire season, a massive suspended sentence for any repeat breaches, and maybe a freeze on being able to sign players from outside the squad. Forcing them to use their juniors, that's what happens in football when teams cheat.

They should not be able to sign Hayne this season. The NRL should offer no financial or any other encouragement for the Eels to sign a player who'll likely walk out on the club when he realises his next dream.

But on the injury business, they claimed Watmough's injury happened pre-season so his salary wasn't included in the cap. The others all sustained their injuries during the season so are included. That's how it works in a nutshell, as was explained at the time.

The whole parra saga is a scam marketing exercise that the NRL has their hands all over. How can Watnough be granted a medical retirement clearance in about 8 minutes which gets the Eels back under tha cap and playing for points, but McManus & Snowden are still part of the Knights cap, despite the fact they will not play again.

Or Fulton when he retired after too many head knocks? They're not really encouraging clubs to do the right thing by players when there's a chance that the club may still be forced to account for salaries for players who retire early from head trauma.

Parra have been flogged with a wet lettuce leaf over this. Canterbury and Melbourne fans should be ropeable with the way this has been handled.

The final nail in the coffin is that they can seemingly let a guy go whose life is imploding off the field and within days of that announcement, Hayne suddenly becomes available. If he is able to sign on this year, that is a farce.

Parra need to keep winning for WT's to have a chance to make the 8.
Without Foran, they won't have a chance of winning 8/9 or whatever the situation is.
Hope they keep knocking off top 8 sides.

I don't agree with that at all. The Eels are appealing to the NRL to include Jarrad Hayne as as a replacement for Foran for the rests of this season.

Former Eels officials confess roles in dodgy deals
AAP on July 12, 2016, 7:26 am

Parramatta's former chief executive and its ex-football manager have admitted to using merchandise sales and inflated invoices to honour under-the-table payments to the NRL club's players.

Former Eels boss Scott Seward and football manager Jason Irvine also told the NRL during its investigations that by the end of the 2014 season, $589,000 was owed to players in unwritten deals.
"The players are like animals you know. They feed wherever they can," Irvine reportedly told the NRL. The pair also admitted to Seward paying the money to players by way of cash, either provided directly by suppliers or after paid into Irvine's credit union account.

Seward, also said now-Brisbane recruitment manager Peter Nolan was aware of most of the deals, and had told him not to worry as "people will help us out". Irvine said he had only personally paid $6000 in cash to one player, Nathan Peats, who had demanded the money and threatened he would quit playing if he did not receive it.

There is no suggestion of any wrongdoing from any player.

Right from the very outset of this drama the NRL has been bending over backwards to help Parra out. In one hand they have a big stick and the other hand a bag of lollies. I get the feeling certain deals were done before this all came out in the press.

The NRL and consistency are things you do not link together. They needed to come down really hard and than told the other clubs, get your books out we are coming over. Also what a joke like the Storm, imagine the Parra players having no idea whats going on…the NRL must think we are all stupid

Have to admit I was a sympathizer with the Parramatta fiasco when it first was outed - however the facts since then would suggest that they are getting off lightly after continually breaching the cap.
I can't not admire the performance of the team on the field though. Every week I expect them to fold and they just keep competeing
The real dilemma will be if they do by some miracle make the finals. Whether to acknowledge the incredible performance by the coaching staff and
players - or be outraged that the league will allow them
to compete in the finals.
The next few weeks are going to be very interesting in how this all pans out - and if Hayne signs..

Most teams would have rolled over weeks ago.
But going on their game on Fri. night, The points loss should have been more,
I dont think its fair, but they're only a couple of wins off joining the chase for 8th spot.
(depending on other results)
Unlikely,but possible
Whatever we think about the club in general , not many Coaches could have held their teams together(performance wise) like Brad Arthur has

Id love Brad Arthur in charge here

Brad Arthurs is a old fashion hard man, but he has a few hard heads at his disposal who would play to win even at darts with kids in the children's hospital at Westmead!! Players like Scott don't even consider loosing is a option and it is rubbing off on the young players. Would love to get some of that attitude bottled and delivered to Concord

Well Scott did an awful lot of losing last season with Newcastle and NSW!

Classic.

What do you call this then? -

"Irvine said he had only personally paid $6000 in cash to one player, Nathan Peats, who had demanded the money and threatened he would quit playing if he did not receive it."

Or Norman collecting his cash in a carpark?

The NRL is a joke.

Every club should threaten law suits if Hayne plays for them this year…

Having a reason to whinge about the NRL and having a legal basis on which to bring an action against them are not the same thing. In this country you can't just make legal claims against people or bodies like the NRL every time they do something you don't like.

They shouldn't ever have the chance of making the 8 this season…NRL have dropped the ball...

Systematic rorting of the Cap since 2013 ...now sets the precedence..get caught play for points...pfffft..

I think a fair punishment would be :
the years that you have been caught cheating for, once its confirmed, then the same amount of time for the following seasons, you get no points at all.
**so if you been caught cheating for 3 years. eg 2013, 2014, 1025.
then you get no points for 2016, 2017, 2018.
also every point you score is not recorded anywhere, point you concede are recorded.**
so your total for the season will be NIL points for, all points conceded & NIL competition points

a bit harsh yes, but once it happens, it will send a clear message.

It would kill the game doing that.

I hear you on that GNR. Harsh penalties, light penalties. The damage is already done. By blatantly cheating and by hiring Stephen Kearney as their coach, Parra have already helped kill the game though too

The size of the penalty is not the part the NRL need to worry about. Clubs believe they can get away with cheating, so are not even looking at the size of the penalty. The only times any club has been pinged for serious breaches is when whistleblowers have gone to the NRL.

If the NRL properly enforced the salary cap, no club would dare step over the line.
