Forward stocks look promising

@Russell

I suppose it does when you read it like that, but realistically the forwards I mentioned need to be changed, and in the backs we have to look for a replacement for Benji. Also we are obviously short some outside backs - so I am suggesting the squad needs to EVOLVE. Maybe 7 or 8 of the top 30.

Joel Thompson doesn’t want to go the ESL now, yes he is 30, but no major injuries and his form is great.
A 2 year deal would be of benefit to us and him.
I know people will say we always buy old crocks, but I don’t think he is either, and he has aggression and runs good lines

@851 Manly have got the best from him. He is on the downhill and the Eagles have made the correct decision to let him go. We should be recruiting young forwards on the periphery of the NRL with good young forwards progressing through the lower grades.

Realistically we should be looking at the likes of Host, Leilua, Kerr and Ravalawa from the dragons as potential signings. None would break the bank.
Swap Lawrence for host, Clark for Kerr, Packer/Mats for Leilua and our pack is stronger. We just need to find clubs willing to take our trash..

So we are in the top eight well into the season with a forward pack that plenty on here rate as in the bottom few, bwahahahaha.

Even more amazing that we have done it with a hopeless halfback, no speed, terrible centers and useless kicker.

Don't even believe you said swap Lawrence.

Don't renew his contract is one thing - to try and swap him is one of the greatest insults I have ever read and coming from a Tigers stalwart like yourself it is even worse.

Swap players out with the Dragons forwards ..their goin great..solid plan..why stop there..Ben Hunt doesn't look happy..

Not literally swap, I meant swap his place on our roster for a more robust forward who can provide impact.

Well, I apologise for misconstruing your post.

That's a serious case of grass is always greener right there...

Agreed, however I'd be looking to replace the guys in the NRL squad that aren't getting NRL time eg Packer, Mats, McQueen, Rochow and hold on to the others such as Clarke, Lawrence, Garner and Eiso as back up. 2 quality props and a 1 backrower would turn our pack around and make a huge difference. Of course it's easy to say this, but where do we find them and how do we pay for them?
Also even if we could achieve this we also need a 5/8, at least one centre, a winger and possibly a fullback.

We dont need that much change an injection of 2-3 top class players like Matterson and we have a solid foundation. We have a ton of cap not in first grade which is our problem.

And not an easy problem to fix.. unless Madge and Hartigan have a magic wand...

@formerguest And of course a lot of underperforming teams that should be higher up the ladder .. crunch time is coming when it does all will see where our pack is !

8.New Signing (Welch....)
9.liddle
10.Twal
11. Garner or lawernce can only carry one legend or newbie
12.new singing (cape well?)
13.Matto, solid defence and can ball play/ kicking option

14.Aloiai
15.Mikaele
16.New singing (Esse Esse)
17.MCK

Depth:
Clarke
Huth
Packer/mats one we leave...I hope
Lawrence/garner which ever one we don’t play
ET
McQueen

Happy Matterson is playing middle third. always thought he was a better middle than an edge player. he has great hands, ball skills and really rolls the ruck.

@TYGA

That's my point - the guys I mentioned are not playing first grade - but I still believe changing only 2-3 players out of our 30 man roster is not going to do the job. Unfortunately with our cap issues, unless we can trade out of guys like Packer, Mats, Reynolds, Jennings, McQueen etc, we won't have the money to upgrade effectively and it may take 2 seasons to get where we need to be with our roster.

Matterson has done well at lock but I think that position is a waste his ball playing skills. I think he would have more impact playing like Wade Graham as an extra play maker that can also do everything a good edge forward does.

With a fast agile 9 like Liddle, we would be better of with a Cameron Murray style player at lock, a good defender with some speed that specialises in getting a fast play the ball. Lock is a less important position that can be filled in a few different ways.
