Harry Grant

Given his market value is increasing after each game even if Harry does go back to the Storm he will seek a contract upgrade. I recall in an article his dad commented that wherever Harry does end up he should be in line for a nice pay increase. Money may ultimately play a big part in Harry's decision regardless of whether Cam plays on given his current value more than likely far exceeds his current contract value.

1 thing i do say about Harry is, that sometimes he does get a bit excited and overplay his hand a bit..bit i aint gonna be harsh on him because the kid has only played a handful of 1st grade games and is already playing the full 80....

Make him Captain.

Offer him a long contract

Tell him he'll get every new PlayStation and iPhone that comes out the day before it's released. 😆
And every new game

Sick 22" rims???

The latest (crappy) Beats headphones

Unlimited coffee for life for him and his family on Norton Street

The big questions apart from Cam Smith is Brandon Smith and Craig Bellamy.

1. Supposedly, B Smith has been "guaranteed" the hooker position.
2. Bellamy will not be at the Storm past next year.

Firstly, I don't think the Tigers are going to push anything on Harry Grant. This is a gentlemans agreement and it would be bad form to snip the player under these circumstances. You can also bet that it would kill our credibility in any future loan situations that may arise.

I reckon it will all come down to Harry. Now as a player, you would be asking a few questions as to who the coach will be and whether or not you'll be playing the role you are signed to play.

The reality is that Grant is a one position player. B Smith plays prop, lock and hooker. Is he going to want to share the hooking role?

There's lots to unravel and I know Grant has said he'll go back to Melbourne, but he always qualifies that by ending his sentence with "at this stage". To me, the door is open and frankly, the Storm are going OK without him.

I'm hoping Harry likes his time at Wests Tigers so much, that upon returning to Storm when that contract runs out he returns to us. Highly unlikely I know, but sounds nice in my head.

No way. Once he’s gone, he’s gone.

If Harry signs with us it has nothing to do with the loan whatsoever. His contract with the storm has this clause re Cam. The clause isn't part of the loan deal, and the clause would allow him to terminate his contract and find employment elsewhere. It is completely separate to the loan. The loan merely gives us a better chance of signing him if the clause does get activated as he's familiar with the club, it's coaches and players.

I don't mean hold all our hopes out on him. We already have a plan for hookers, which personally I'm happy with, Liddle and/or Simpkins. Five-eighth, goal kicker and some of the backline positions are more of a pressing area of concern I feel. But if Grant at a later time chooses us over Storm, wow, that would be something great for our reputation as a desirable club to be at.

It's only early days with this fella, but so far he's showing to be a classy player, and imo it'd good to keep the door open for him if we can.

Aren't you younger than Harry? How can you call him a kid? Agree with everything you say in that comment however

Poor word choice sorry

Marshall may have had a firm grip on the controls in the 48-0 win over the Broncos last Friday night, but it was Grant who got the chants when he went off for a rest midway through the second half.

"He plays a style that suits us - gets out and runs a bit, threatens the line. He's been our best player," Marshall said.

"He told me on the weekend 'They were chanting my name so does that mean I'm taking over as the king' [of Leichhardt]? Then he went and sat on the scoreboard and got a photo and sent it to Robbie too to tell him he's taken over that as well.

MAHONEY??? He's alright i don't rate him. Honestly no bias but he's one dimensional. Harry's much more dynamic at the 9 especially considering the instability Harry has had with his halves Mahoney has had the stability of a solid stable 6 and 7 to support him.

Gran'ts on another tier.

The only thing Mahoney has over Grant is a good kicking game other than that he’s not much chop. I feel he’s benefiting a lot from a classy Parra outfit, at most other sides I reckon he’d be pretty average

Mahoney has a great name (loved Police Academy) - but as far as footballers go, I'd go Grant every time (besides Four Weddings and a Funeral, a winner every time!).
Seriously, this article is page filler fodder.

Lots of O'Mahoneys are "oh-mah-nee", so it makes sense in that respect. Being an Irish surname I believe it's always supposed to be a "ma" sound rather than a "moe" sound, the difference being whether the native Irishman says "oh-mah-nee" or "oh-ma-ha-nee".

This is true of a lot of Irish names that have been anglicised, e.g. Doherty (doe-her-ty vs doh-her-ty), Gallagher (gal-ag-ger vs gal-a-her) and O'Shaughnessy (oh-shon-nes-see vs oh-shock-nes-see). And when I say "anglicised", I think a lot of the mispronunciation originates from American speakers, though I think lots of Aussies also balls-up a majority of Irish names.

I think one thing people are overlooking is that Harry Grant will become a free agent the moment Cameron Smith decides to play on. I.e. his price will treble and he can go 'anywhere'.

It is not like he will automatically extend with us. He will be completely free to sign anywhere and offers will likely be in the 700 - 800 range if he keeps up this form and wins dally M hooker of the year / maybe even player of the year / plays for QLD.
