Has Ellis been worth it?

What does everyone think about Ellis. Has he been worth the investment?

Rightly or wrongly, some of the expectations I had for his time at the club have been met whilst others haven't. Hindsight shows that those expectations were probably misinformed, but that's hardly a negative thing in the slightest.

But I'm curious, what does everyone else think of his time here over the last few years?

I hope his injury isn't too bad and that he is recovered to play again after the bye. When he is playing fit, he adds a lot to our pack in terms of size, commitment, strength and workload in defence and attack. He is going through a rough patch at the moment due to injury but once he gets back to his usual standard, our team will be all the better for it. And 'yes' IMO he has been well and truely worth it.

What others do you speak….he is as important as Farah and Marshall...

Hits like a rock in defense and does the hard yakka coming out of our end....Often the one to get us going forward when others aren't doing much.....

He is still one of the premier backrowers in the game and could easily handle Prop...

Great buy....best import the Wests Tigers have ever had...IMHO...

Oh...GARETH ARMY...

For me he's exceeded all expectations. International matches prove just how much better than NRL is than the ESL and i think he has been our most consistant over his time here. Deffinitely worth every dollar we are giving him.

I actually thought he would be a more damaging ball runner to be honest.

But other aspects of his game such as his defence and his commitment such as doing the hard yakka has exceeded my expectations by far.

Before he joined us I thought of him as more of a ball running 2nd rower, maybe Frank Pritchard-esque, but I was wrong he is tough in defence and has certainly added some starch to our D.

Also from what I remember his form in the ESL for a year or two prior to joining us werent great after being rated one of the best players in the world, around 03\. So certainly the step up in class has helped him, if he were a NSWelshmen, he'd be in the SOO side for sure.

This.

I expected a bit more in attack from him, I guess it is a big step up from ESL to NRL.
He came with huge raps and maybe I expected too much.
That said he's been very good, its all been said, works his freckle off, hits hard, great ambassador for the club on & off field.

He was always a workaholic in ESL but never had much ball skills . he has been a great buy up to now . My only concern is he has a chronic groin injury and at his age they can be very hard to fully recover from As you can see as this groin issue he got during Brisbane game last year Seeing he has 2 and half years still left i am concerned whether we will get full value then as think he will became a bench player like Payten . Totally agree Ink he is a fantastic ambassador for his country and the West Tigers

yup, my thoughts too.

so glad we got him

This year he has struggled from the first game with injury after injury but overall has been fantastic. Cant fault him as a player or a person

I don't watch ESL so I never saw him play over there,
but I think he has been great ever since joining the NRL.
My answer is yes.

I wish he was twins thats how much i think of him and what he has given our pack.I honestly wouldnt swap him for any other back rower going around

Definitely! Great player, great bloke and loyal enough to stay here for a contract extension!I don't think we could have bought any better. Sheensy's best purchase to date.

Can't wait for the big fella to get fit again

It's been neck and neck between Ellis and Heighington for being the most consistent club man of the last 2 and a bit seasons.

Ellis being an 80 minute player was a welcome surprise when he started with us, and as per what others have said, he has added some massive starch to our defense, and size to our pack.

He never seems to ever be just phoning it in, looks like a complete effort player in ever sense of the word. Always runs the ball at 100% and smashes players in defense.

Always looking to cuts runs through the line - a genuine decoy or line runner - take your pick defensmen!

A total gentleman off the pitch. Always seems to have a smile on his face, and on the odd occasions I've met him, he seems genuinely grateful and impressed with the amount of love his fans give him.

Didn't score a try in his first season with us, not for lack of trying however, but his game was tweaked a bit in 2010\. Unfortunately so far hasn't risen the bar higher which I would have loved to see, although his injuries this year probably have not helped. He still is light years ahead of Burgess though in terms of comparing the imports.

Overall he has exceeded expectations, and has been totally worth it.

BUT

It has been cancelled out by the under-achievement of our other English Experiment - Flanagan. Unless they keep him to throw in the centres (Which Sheens is unlikely to do at this stage, if he's putting Moltzen there) he is a constant lack of impact for a so called forward - 8 pack and all, the guy is simply too small.

Yep, this is what I reckon. Cannot be faulted up till now. I just hope there's more to come over the next couple of years.
