Hooker position - Thread

The situation we find ourselves is getting beyond a joke and I think an explanation of what is going is needed from Ivan. Liddle seems to be along way from match fit and is often out with injury concerns. Our second line hookers are Godinet and McIlwrick. Godinet has been at least been tried and Ivan looked elsewhere. Since then when Liddle has gone down IC has gone with a jerry-rigged solution with getting players from the first 17 filling in the specialist position. These has gone on literally for weeks on end- it is not just a temporary solution. I could understand if it happened during the game and players had to be shuffled around but this is something different.

How about explaining your thinking and what has happened with the McIlwrick option rather than the continued make do solution. Our season has the potential to slip away if this continues, its not good enough to say we are waiting for Liddle to become match fit. I think the WT fans deserve some kind of understanding of whats going on.

we desperately need a 2nd rower BUT if Liddle does not get his body right we need a hooker even more urgently
ET cannot pass, Brooks must be having nightmares about playing with him. while unlikely would be worth making an enquiry with Brailey's younger brother (also a hooker) going great in reserves. If won't leave what about Seggy

McIllwrick wont be seen again, thats whats happening.

For whatever reason Ivan does not rate the guy. I dont either, pure reserve grader if ever there was one.

Yes he may be a better hooker than Taylor but Taylor is a million times a better footballer.

Reynolds is looking really good at dummy half, may just fix the issue.

Some good/decent hookers off contract

Manaia Cherrington, Robbie Farah, Siliva Havili, Cameron King, Apisai Koroisau, Issac Luke, James Segeyaro, Cameron Smith

I like Liddle but its worrying that his body isn't up to it yet.

It will be hard to make the finals this year without a proper hooker, I really hope Liddle plays against the sharks and can stay injury free.

Unfortunately the problem is now, this season, with Liddle's injury and recovery.

Off contract hookers are great for next season or if we potentially want to try for one of them to be released early before 30 June- but we need it to be acknowledged as a problem first. We are hearing diddly squat….................

Godinet is only contracted for this season, McIlwrick for next season (2019) as well. Seems silly the player we have on the books for next season as well cant get a look in. Its a problem.

I seem to recall in last weeks game one of the commentators saying that Liddle was wearing some sort of protective cover over his sternum, someone mentioned it I'm sure.

Not ideal.

Sternum injuries are awful. I've had a sternotomy, not sure of the nature of fractures but where my collarbone meets the sternum, I have exposed nerves as the sternum never healed correctly where it meets the clavicle. You only need place the tiniest bit of pressure on the little nubs of bone and the pain is excruciating, and aches for days afterward.

Is it something he can get over in the short term or are we looking at most of the season?

Not sure mate, just speaking from experience. Mine has never healed properly, but my sternum was sawn open. A little bit more serious than a bruise or fracture. I imagine a fracture could have similar implications if it doesn't heal right.

So if you are too aggressive in the bedroom your missus soon stops you in your tracks?

No such thing Byron.

Reynolds has chronic shoulder problems playing with fire with him at hooker.
We need to sign a hooker to play with Liddle when he returns.

I think Benji is a better option than Reynolds at 9\. He may extend his career another year at hooker.

I'd take Cherrington for the rest of the year
… Or Farah.

Then sign Matt Parcel until Liddle is match ready.... Probably in three years.

Anything outside of our squad is wishful thinking.. We’ll be making do with what we have unfortunately. I’d say it would be Reynolds alternating with Liddle if he’s ever fit enough. Liddle really needs to get back in and stay on the field for us.. He’s had no chance to gain any kind of momentum being injured half the time.

I believe we only have two contract spots left. Oh, mbye. So one left to fill. (or have we gone down again as Kevie left).

It's a biggish call to get a hooker in. But I would totally make it now looking at where our team is at.

This is where I think Mbye plays if he comes across early. Something needs to be done, it’s killing us. Can’t keep persisting with ET.

Reynolds really good at dummy half ? his a 5/8th full stop , he took an age to decide what he was going to do with the footy yesterday , watch the last set of the game yesterday and you will see that he went from dummy half 2 metres out cause he had no idea what to do ( maybe the halves fault for not calling it not sure ) .
Benji has had his time in the sun and Reynolds needs to be there,

I think it was obvious he was trying to get a penalty for the 3 players offside right in front of him

All he had to do was use the hands to the right and we score Game over
