Jackson Hastings #251

Adrian Lam's defiant response to latest Jackson Hastings NRL speculation

Hastings has been linked with an immediate move to Wests Tigers, but Lam isn't interested in it.

Adrian Lam says Wigan are not concerned about the speculation surrounding Jackson Hastings' future with the former Man of Steel set to make his first appearance of the season this week.

Hastings could feature against Wakefield Trinity on Thursday after missing the opener against Leigh following his delayed return to the UK from a close-season break.

Former Wigan boss Michael Maguire, now in charge of Wests Tigers, has been linked with a move for the 2019 Man of Steel following Luke Brooks' poor start to the year.

But Lam expects the Aussie to stay until the end of this season, when his contract expires, and suggested a report based on **Maguire’s interest in the player was based on “old quotes”.**

Hastings has made no secret of his desire to one day play in the NRL while Wigan chairman Ian Lenagan admitted earlier this year that he expected him to leave at the end of the season.

When asked about his future, Lam said: “It’s the same as last week for us.

“He’s contracted to the end of the 2021 season, he's here, he's training well, he's loving it, we're enjoying his company, he's going to play a part in us being successful this year and as far as we're concerned, nothing’s changed.

“I don’t know when that report was quoted from. Was it actually last week or was it an old quote rehashed?

“Jackson Hastings is off-contract at the end of this year, so I guess him and his management group are going to speaking to whoever they want to.

"All we're in control of as a club is having him this year."

Lam all but confirmed Hastings would play against Wakefield, but didn't confirm where, with the 25-year-old potentially being considered to play hooker.

"That's an interesting one, isn't it?

"He'll be somewhere in the 17 and he'll potentially play both of those positions."

Based on that he’ll be here this year

The whole Man of Steel means nothing argument is so ridiculous. Would you prefer to get a player who was never the best player in the SL?

I would prefer to get a player that was never so rubbish that they had to go to the SL to continue their career.

- John Bateman was second in the man of steel in 2018, only lost it cause Barba had a freak season. He killed it in the NRL.
- All of the Australians who have won it came back and killed it.
Didn't see Gavin Miller play, but he won it in 1986, then won Dally Ms in 1988 and 1989.
Jamie Lyon came back and won Dally M Centre of the Year 2010-2011.

That award is no joke.

Perfect example and proves my point well. When he went to SL, he was busted. Couldnt get a contract in the NRL, and he tore up over there. Came back here and was washed up unfortunately, a shadow of his old self.

Hi Brett, thanks for putting your hand up, another perfect example proving my point. Left the NRL at 31, at the end of his career, dogged by injuries and smashed it over there for another 5 YEARS!!!

The award isnt a joke, its awarded to the best player in the SL. The standard of play in the SL is a joke.

When Gavin Miller played, it was in the off season of the NSWRL. Gavin Miller didnt miss a season for Cronulla 1986 - 1992. He also played for Hull KR, 1984-89. He never left the NSWRL, never missed a season in that time.

The only reason Jamie Lyon played 2 years in SL was because he couldnt play in the NRL because of his contractual dispute with Parra in 2005 and 2006. As soon as that was over he came back, at the peak of his powers to Manly and tore up......

You say ***ALL OF THE AUSTRALIANS WHO HAVE WON IT CAME BACK AND KILLED IT.........***

REally?

Adrian Vowles? - Never came back and spent 7 years over there.
Brett hodgson? Never came back
Pat Richards? Came back and was rubbish
Rangi Chase? - 12 years over there, never came back
Ben Barba? - Never came back
Jackson Hastings/ Time will tell

Your post basically reinforces everything I said. It is an extremely substandard competition and does not improve your standard.

Speaking of totally wrong.......Brett Hodgson never signed a Contract with Wigan and never played for them. He also never tried to backflip, nor did the Tigers try to get him to.

*"Salary cap restraints at the Wests Tigers forced Hodgson to look elsewhere for a contract for the 2009 season.[15] Hodgson said his departure was, "through lack of opportunity in Australia. There was absolutely nothing here. If you've been in the game seven, eight, nine or 10 years I think there needs to be some sort of [salary cap] allowance."*

*""Because of the salary cap factor in Australia, staying here is not
really an option. We approached other NRL clubs but there is not a lot going because there are a ton of quality full-backs."*

So again, a perfect example proving my point....31 yo, forced out of Tigers due to salary cap, couldnt get a gig in the NRL so went to SL to play until he was 36.

He's still doing well at the moment

Look, clearly super league standard isn't NRL standard. It's also really dumb to write players off JUST because they come from Super League when so many players (especially lately) have come over and done quite well here.

Ah....bad mistake, and I seemed so sure of myself as well!

Richards did go over there, probably at the peak of his powers although in the recent interview he gave on SEN he did say he had bad injuries at the time.

Back to my original point though. When he came back, he was rubbish (as much as I loved what he did prior).

Bateman, S Burgess, Graham, maybe...maybe WIlliams.....so maybe 4 or 5? Is that many?

There is much more money in the NRL these days than SL, so if the SL is such a great standard, and MoS is such an indication of quality, why have NONE of the past 10 winners come to play in the NRL?

lol Hastings was the name thrown about. It could have been anyone half decent. The reasons people wanted Brooks dropped weren't about two games. People had rightfully questioned whether after 150 and zero top 8 placings he was the guy. Don't let facts get in the way of a win though!

Do you think DCE is better? How does he look without Turbo? The strike weapons make a half look good or bad. Brook's created many opportunities yesterday that were wasted by his team mates.

A half controlling the middle is doing a specific job. He decides if the team should attack up the middle or to get the ball wide to a playmaker or strike player on a side if see sees an advantage in numbers. He is not there to singlehandedly win the match.

Ok so now its his outside men who let him down.

Love these type of comments lol.

The DCE point is salient however. DCE plays the games of his life in Origin, can't remotely back it up at club level because his team is thin. Manly close to one of the worst teams going around in 2021.
