AllegedlyAlso they pay Ivan part of Nathan's money so it doesn't count in the salary cap.
It was a perplexing call at the time, which became a stupid call as it continued to drag out.
I think you’re 100% right. Cleary will rue the way he handled this.
Ivan Cleary is the guy we have to thank. In an effort to try and scare off any buyers for Luai, by questioning his ability to control a team, he actually gave Luai the motivation to look elsewhere. If he took another approach and praised Luai he may just have been happy to take unders and stay put.
Thank you Ivan, not only did we finally nail a big fish, but we have a big fish who will want to prove a point and rub his last boss’s nose in it. You can’t buy motivation like that
It was so unnecessary. He could have completely ignored it or said he'd be ok or "we'll wait and see". But he went out and provided motivation to a player who feeds off it by saying it's a risk which no doubt is directly infiltrating the player market negatively and could have made Jarome earn less for his family in the future. Very inconsiderate and unethical. Ivan may have intended it to get rid of Jarome so Nathan can own the team fully, but if he intended to keep him, Ivan must have been drunk again. Because there's no way you make those comments if you want to keep himIt was a perplexing call at the time, which became a stupid call as it continued to drag out.

Nathan took 200K 'unders' though. Believe the media! Also they pay Ivan part of Nathan's money so it doesn't count in the salary cap.
He gets more criticism than any other player as a player or person in the game. Even Latrell doesn't cop it like himI don't think people hate him... I think most criticism was the way he'd carry on when things were going well for them... Not for his football
Moses is more naturally talented. Luai is better all round in terms of defence, game awareness and competitivenessI consider Moses the better player, however Luai is the better fit imo.
Ivan is very manipulative. He will do anything to put him and his family above the club. He has no integrity. Shown by the way he left usHighly likely with jett chin waiting in the wings
Penrith offered Luai 850K (same as Edwards and Yeo). Luai responded "KnowYourWorth" on insta, and now he's got a 5 year 1.2 million dollar deal in a rare bracket of playersI see you've put your villains cape back on now
that he's signed, Mr Contrarian. You're mad to
think that the Panthers view him as 'expendable'.
They offered him 3 years but the $$$ fell short
They offered luai the same as Edwards and Yeo. All on 850K. And while I rate luai as a better player outside the penrith system, edwards and yeo are way more important to penrith's play style than luai isWhat are you taking about? He’s the best signing we’ve ever made. But they offered him less money cos they prioritised others ahead of him.
That $200k went into Ivan’s salary….im sure it eventually found its way to Nathan’s bank account….Nathan took 200K 'unders' though. Believe the media!
Peter Breen (Rugby Bricks) has been spending a stack of time with our boys this offseason, to the point where I think he may even be on the coaching staff. I'll post his Insta below, there is a stack of content of him with our boys at Concord.Disagree, Moses has a better long kicking game. But truth be told that only came about after he spent a season working with Andrew Johns.
Luai has a decent kick on him but hard for it to stand out alongside Nathan. It needs to be the focus in preseason 25. And we would do worse to look to hire a premier kicking half to work alongside our halves in the preseason.
wonder if Saints have decided to do that with the Flannos? Also they pay Ivan part of Nathan's money so it doesn't count in the salary cap.
I’m sure they’ll throw an extra 50 bucks in Shane’s account for Kyle.wonder if Saints have decided to do that with the Flannos?
Agree that Luai is the better fit, but also believe he is the better player as far as consistency goes and standing up in big games.I consider Moses the better player, however Luai is the better fit imo.
Definitely.Allegedly
Cleary, JFH, Edwards, To'o, Yeo, would all be on very good money I'd reckon. Then you have Tago, Leota, Turuva, Sorensen, May, Kenny and Luke who would be commanding decent money too I would think. The panthers must be paying there remaining players huge wages , when u think of the players they have lost , I count at least 6 players who would having on good coin and there still on the edge
the main core you mentioned are on upwards of $700k with Leota on a little less. I'd be fairly certain Turuva, Sorensen, May and Kenny are all on pittance, although two of those (Turuva & Kenny) will be upgraded for '25.Cleary, JFH, Edwards, To'o, Yeo, would all be on very good money I'd reckon. They've done well to balance that roster out and stay competitive. Of course it helps when you have a couple generations of class players come through to keep the first grade side well stocked but in a salary cap era it's an impressive achievement.
Interestingly enough the core group they have retained besides Yeo whom was playing firsts from the 2014 season; all featured in the 2015 nyc cup team and debuted the following year in 2016.the main core you mentioned are on upwards of $700k with Leota on a little less. like you say, their cap model is the ideal model moving forward, especially for us with the young talent we have coming through. identify your core, extract value from your youngsters for as long as possible, and prepare to be outbidded by clubs for those players when the time comes. despite the losses of Burton, Kikau, Crichton and Leniu, the machine rolls on.
Luai is the interesting one. I think they'll move things around and Cleary will be jumping between first and second receiver when he chooses, but they might lose a lot more off the field and culturally than they bargained for.
