You would think this would be backed up with a decent offer - if he is holding out to check his market value then he is hardly captain or club leader material.
What are you blokes on about? This is his living and he has every right to negotiate the best deal possible, captain or not. After all an NRL player's career can come to a sudden and permanent halt at any minute of the eighty he plays in every week, or at least those minutes that he's on the field.
Now, he's not captain material because he hasn't rushed into a deal a year before he needs to, just to settle the nerves of anxious supporters? Give me a break, I've heard everything now.
No one is arguing he isn't entitled to the best deal he can get, but as captain he has a responsibility to back the club and lead by example by re-signing. If he doesn't want to do that and instead would rather look out for himself, that's fine, but he should relinquish the captaincy because that isn't the mark of a leader. Why then should he be captain ahead of the players and the examples they set that i mentioned in my previous post.
That is not true no captain should accept possible unders to stay with the club just to set an example. As for Lawrence and Taylor,Lawrence should not be starting (benchie) and Taylor has only been with the club for less than a season.
If we had an outstanding prospect for the 2nd row, I'd start them and have Lawrence on the bench. But we don't. We know what we are going to get with Lawrence. He isn't going to be devastating but he's solid and plays at 100% (until broken). Sue could be devastating in the second row and it looks like that's were he is going to start this yet. In the 9's I saw him put on some nice footwork to score a try. However it's a bit unknown how he'll go. I wouldn't risk a Sue and Aloiai combination because I think with Lawrence we'll get a higher work rate.
