EXCLUSIVE: **THE Warriors have missed out on securing the services of Kiwis and Storm hard-hitter Jeff Lima, who now looks set to sign a deal with the Tigers**.
The Storm prop is contracted to the Melbourne outfit for two more years but has been told the club will consider releasing him if he wants out.
His agent Sam Ayoub recently had discussions with the Warriors about the possibility of signing Lima but it's understood his preference would be to move back to Sydney.
"A little while ago, for personal reasons, Jeff asked if he could be released so he could move back to Sydney," Ayoub told Sunday News yesterday.
"Melbourne knocked him back at the time and said they wouldn't release him. As it turned out, he's sorted out his personal issues and remained down there.
"However, Melbourne have since come back and said they would consider letting him go to Sydney if he wants to.
"I spoke with (Warriors CEO) Wayne Scurrah and the Warriors did express an interest in Jeff.
"To be honest, though, I did convey to them that if Jeff was to leave the Storm it would be for the purpose of moving to Sydney."
Ayoub said it was possible Lima, who played for the Tigers in 2004, would move back to his old club.
"We've had some discussions with the Tigers just as we've had some talks with some other Sydney-based clubs as well," he said.
"In a sense, if it worked out, Jeff's initial preference would be to move to the Tigers because that's where he's come from and he has some very good friends there.
"It's for that reason we are potentially leaning towards the Tigers if we can make it happen."

I hope this comes off. It would be a fantastic sigining.

Well it looks like the ball is in our court :righton:
We should be trying to secure his signiture over any body else's
Lets see what the recruitment team is really made of

😛ray:

He would Bolster our forward pack incredibly…

I read a post at LeagueUnlimited that said he is one of only 8 props to average 100m+ for that last 3 seasons!!!

The others are Justin Poore, Fuifui Moimoi, Steve Price, Nathan Cayless, Roy Asotasi, Petero Civoniceva, Luke Bailey.

Given that list... it's very VERY respectable!

Jeff is exactly the type of player that we need in our pack. The big boppers have trouble stopping him at full bore. Sign him up immediately Wests Tigers.

Sign him. Sign him now!
Assuming Burgess is gone then out of the 3 'marquee' players we're talking about (Lima, Cayless, Tuquiri) Lima would be my first pick by a long way!

The last few years our forward pack has largely been a detriment and a weakness.

This year, I felt that when at full strength our pack could hold its own.

If we sign Lima, and can run out with a front row of Galloway, Farah and Lima then I think our forward pack suddenly becomes a strength of our team.

This pack, with this depth, would have me very excited about next year:

8\. Keith Galloway
9\. Robbie Farah
10\. Jeff Lima
11\. Gareth Ellis
12\. Chris Heighington
13\. Liam Fulton

Reserves: Bryce Gibbs, Todd Payten, Mark Flanagan, Junior Moors, Andrew Fafita, David Fafita, Willie Mataka, Al Schirnack, Jason Schirnack, Simon Dwyer, David Gower…

Agreed…

In order (although I'd be thrilled with any of them) my preference would be:

1\. Jeff Lima
2\. Sam Burgess
3\. Lote Tuqiri
4\. Jason Cayless

I put Lima ahead of Burgess simply because he's proven himself at the highest levels in the NRL. Burgess has more upside, but with Lima you know what you're getting. And what you're getting is exactly what this team needs.

I agree Colonel, with your order of preferences but if we could get Fui , I will have him before all of them…..and he is best mates with TNT...it would make a happy player...happier to stay

Well yeah, I was just going off player we've been linked to.

Moi Moi is the most in form front rower in the comp. Obviously he'd be my first choice. But I haven't read anything saying the Eels are looking to release him, or that we've been linked to signing him. (Please correct me if I'm wrong here) If he was available I'd want the Tigers to do everything in their power to sign him.

This would turn us into a real premiership contender for next year…

Lima has great leg drive and has a low center of gravity. I honestly believe with Farah having options like Lima and Galloway off his shoulder would turn us into a red hot team...

Against Manly he was tearing it up!!!

If Wests Tigers stuff this opportunity McDonnell should be sacked immediately…

**I'm not leaving Storm, insists Lima**
By Melissa Woods AAP Mon, 28 Sep 2009 15:05:44

Several Melbourne players will have their last game in a Storm jersey in Sunday's NRL grand final but prop Jeff Lima is adamant he's not one of them.

The 27-year-old New Zealand international has been linked with a move to Wests Tigers, which would ease the pressure on the Storm's salary cap.

However Lima said on Monday he was staying put and got a laugh out of the story when he read it in a magazine last week.

"I don't know where you've got that from, I've got two more years with the club," Lima said.

"That's the first I've heard of it, when I saw it in Rugby League Week last week and I thought it was pretty funny."

Lima, the club's joker, left a few journalists scratching their heads at the Storm's media open day on Monday when he switched identities with fellow prop Adam Blair and he also jested Blair may be responsible for his rumoured departure.

"It was probably Adam who said something stupid to the media about it," Lima said.

Plucked from the relative obscurity of rugby league in France in 2006, Lima will be lining up for his third grand final with the Storm.

He said that the Melbourne coaching staff, led by Craig Bellamy, had the a rare ability to create stars from average players.

"The coaching staff seem to teach us things that turn stars into superstars and part-timers into stars.

"When I first came to Melbourne I didn't know what was going on," he said.

"I thought I was playing good football but it obviously wasn't good enough.

"They sat me down and told me the things I need to improve to be a better player and a better person.

"You've just got to listen to what they say and work hard and it pays off."

DAMN IT!

There is something not right here. What on earth is his manager doing saying he is looking to move to Sydney? Are we to now think that article in the NZ paper was completely fabricated?

To me the NRL.com one has more reliability and credibility than stuff.com

Hopefully Lima is playing down the move in the lead up to the Grand Final, and that we'll sign him next week

just heard on 2sm from graham hughes, Lima (approx 3.15pm Monday the 28th of September) is about to sign with wests or already has.

It was Peter Tunks, he said, "Ive heard Jeff Lima may be about to sign with the Tigers" which translates to "Ive been on the net reading the Tigers forum"

Haha.

I personally doubt the stuff article is completely fabricated. There were some elaborate quotes - ie: he was initially refused a release etc.

I'd say it's Lima hosing down speculation to take the focus off himself. I wouldn't expect him to confirm the speculation even if he was about to sign.
