Very little to get excited about today, another performance of brain fades and poor execution. Our back rowers are talented in attack but suck at defence. In the end there's just no one with any X factor in this side. Whereas Parra had several players to us to shreds. Twiddle and Avery were 1000% better than any of our backs, Brown and Samuelu too strong for us in the forwards. Really missed Tavana and big Solo

It's hard to compete when we have so many young players.

Desperately need Brookes at the back to provide some spark though I think he'll be out for another month or so
What are your thoughts on Max Taotua BB ?
I see potential in he and his brother, but geez Mitch Taotua was woeful in defence yesterday, I’m pretty sure he got hooked for being partly responsible in conceding 3-4 tries.

Careful, if.you go around saying the opposition were bigger and stronger, and they in general the other team was smarter, faster and more skillful than is you'll get hounded. Even if it's true.
Do you think whinging about it on a Wests Tigers forum is really going to be met with lots of agreement? If you want agreement, go to another team's forum and they'll agree with you in a heartbeat.

Both he and Broadelow, I doubt they end up making it to NRL level. Defence is attitude, and technique, and they both are out of position and get bumped off way too easily.
Do they have the work ethic to keep improving? Remains to be seen. They're both the only attacking threats we have in the back row so they'll get more opportunities for sure.
I just want promotions to be on merit if/when they get called up to Cup.

And I'm not sure anyone was cut, with Godinet on the bench he was going to come on to second row for some one. Not sure either of those two could play lock, worth a crack given they were playing Lanyon there for a bit.

There are people on here who are supposed to care about the club, and our future. These players are meant to be the cornerstone of our future, but we've somehow just got our recruitment incredibly wrong for many years. People should be held accountable , members of the club who care can help put pressure for this change to happen. Through formal or informal channels.

There's also the issue that players join the club but then very very few actually improve. Why can't we develop players? Why do we have such a loser culture? Why is failure accepted so much?

We have a few talented individuals, absolutely no doubt. But every club does. And many of these players don't kick on to first grade. We have fewer of these talented players than most other clubs, and fewer compared to what we've produced in the past.

I don't want members to celebrate our failure, but merely acknowledge it's existence. We can help the club move forwards.

Probably the worst half of footy I have seen the boys put on this year. Too many errors. Simple one on one misses, particularly the edge defence. Xavier T not having a very happy time today (apart from 1 nice line run and try assist).

If we can control the ball, we will have points in us. But might be too late...if we do.
Down 22 - 4 at half time.

Getting owned up the middle. Once again our lack of size & strength amongst our middles is noticeable. Valu Hammond has also been terrible in defence at left centre. Kanaan, Liles, Mitch Taotua & Lanyon our best so far.

Agreed. Some really soft defence out there. The 19 for Sharks just looks like the big kid in under 10's that just needs to get the ball and score or make a linebreak.
Hopefully more of a dig in the 2nd half.

Awful. After getting back into the game at 10-22 Godinet makes a good run at left centre but loses the ball over the line. Then Sharks put 4 tries on with pathetic defence by us. Still 17 to go.

Yeah I have stopped watching. Still need to put myself through watching KOE Cup and wouldnt have it in me if I watched the 2nd half when they perform like this.

We ended up losing 20-46 to the Sharks today.

As I mentioned earlier, we were 10-22 early in the 2nd half and Godinet went within a whisker of scoring when we had the momentum.

Then Sharks went back-to-back-to-back-to-back before we scored a couple of good tries late.

Our best were Cameron Kanaan at fullback, Max Liles at halfback and Jared Haywood at both hooker & 5/8 (when Matai went off). Also good were Will Craig, Josese Lanyon & Mitch Taotua I thought.

Just quickly the negatives are our lack of size in the middle and our defensive effort on the edges & around the ruck. A few vomit moments were when Sharks scored with just a hitup 5m out and we had 4 in the tackle that couldn't hold the Sharks forward up & some terrible attempted tackles by Matai & Broederlow to miss another Sharks forward who scored.

Xavier Tauaifaiga had a couple of good moments in attack but otherwise a day to forget with a poor 1-on-1 miss & some other ineffective tackles. Poor old Valu Hammond had a shocker in defence & with his hands.

A couple of enforced changes sparked my attention today though ...

Pheonix Godinet played centre in the 2nd half. Given he is a bit undersized at the moment for backrow, maybe it is worth giving him some opportunity in the centres to develop his versatility. I liked some things I saw from him and he went very close to scoring with a nice charge.

Also when Matai went off after injuring his knee, Haywood went into the halves. He set up a beautiful try to Craig with a cut-out pass to his right and then nearly scored a solo try when he grubbered through only to slip at a crucial time.

With Galvin going & hopefully TDS extending, I reckon it would be worth developing Haywood at both hooker & halves ... he certainly has the ability and game IQ.

Solo Saukuru & Max Taotua are important returns this week in the centres.

Heith Pritchard comes in at 5/8 for the injured Iverson Matai.

Big bopper Thomas Epere makes the starting pack at prop adding much needed size & physicality.

SG Ball graduates Godinet, Duncombe & Haywood remain on the bench getting all-important reps.

Injury news, Tino Tavana is about a month away from a return with a lower leg injury.

Lost Flegg 18-58 against the Dragons today. Just some brief notes:

We were going well & were leading up until about the 30th minute. Dragons #7 Kade Reed produced a masterclass of kicking. They scored about 3 or 4 tries off his last tackle high kicks (Will Craig will be having nightmares) and he produced a slicing, stepping run to score himself (leaving Broederlow & Tannous I think it was in his wake with poor lateral defence).

The Taotua twins were strong once again. Max (right centre) must be getting close to a NSW Cup promotion with his form this season.

Haywood just looks class playing mainly halfback with some dummyhalf & produced a lovely pass for Max Taotua's try from memory.

Our bench forwards were strong, Leatigaga, Plata & big shout out to Byron Laupepa (SG Ball Magpies backrower) who made his JF debut and came on in the middle and looked our best in the period he was on. Logan Deininger (Brookes) had some nice moments too with the ball and one try-saving tackle I can recall.

Dragons just looked bigger, more professional & had their halfback Kade Reed in brilliant form. Take him out and the scoreline is a lot closer. We did have 5 x 18/19yos in the team today so that lack of cohesion & size does make a difference.

Kanaan returns to Flegg after a NSW Cup debut on the wing last week. Max Liles also drops back.

Jack Nicholas debuts in Flegg after missing most of SG Ball season. Trained a bit with Flegg in pre-season.

Levi Conti returns at halfback - Iverson Matai injured 2 weeks ago.

Tino Tavana still 2-3 weeks away.

Hoping Riley Oitmann gets a Flegg debut too over the coming weeks. Arguably WM best in SB Ball this season and carving up in Macarthur Reserve Grade for Camden Rams.

He's played at least one round of Flegg this season but is behind Max Liles & Iverson Matai. Even with Matai injured, he'll probably struggle to cement a spot with Jared Haywood & Marc Tannous being promoted from SG Ball.

What is your opinion on the winger Jack Nicholson ??

He showed very good promise last year in the schoolboys competition with Patrician Brothers Blacktown. Tall & reasonably fast type with good finishing skills. Highly rated by the club as he got a gig to train with Jersey Flegg during pre-season although SG Ball eligible.
