He's played at least one round of Flegg this season but is behind Max Liles & Iverson Matai. Even with Matai injured, he'll probably struggle to cement a spot with Jared Haywood & Marc Tannous being promoted from SG Ball.

What is your opinion on the winger Jack Nicholson ??

He showed very good promise last year in the schoolboys competition with Patrician Brothers Blacktown. Tall & reasonably fast type with good finishing skills. Highly rated by the club as he got a gig to train with Jersey Flegg during pre-season although SG Ball eligible.

He appears to have the attributes of what most clubs are looking for in a modern day winger being tall, strong and fast.

Our Jersey Flegg team lost 40-20 to Penrith last night.

Once again this team capitulated in a short period letting in 4 tries in the space of 15 mins to be down 22-0.

All too often this season opposition teams get on a roll scoring 2/3/4 tries back-to-back before our boys get back into the grind. Same applies for NSW Cup.

Penrith are one of the top teams in this comp. Our struggles start in the middle (as I have said in previous weeks) with our lack of size & ability to control the ruck allowing opposition fast play-the-balls and big post contact metres, offloads etc.

We have also been the victim of multiple tries off high kicks which we can't defuse. Last night we actually made one of our ex juniors Zak Clarke look like a star - he's ok but we made him look better haha

I now do believe all our club is concerned with this season in Flegg is blooding players who are 1-3 years young for that grade (i.e. 18-20yos) but identified as our top tier pathways talent (Haywood, Duncombe, Nicholas, Godinet etc).

IMO our standout player last night was left edge backrower Mitch Taotua. He was strong with every run, got offloads away, strong in D and was our biggest threat in attack.

Also good were Jared Haywood who came on when we were 0-22 and straight away we looked a different team in attack. Moved to halfback when Conti came off injured, and scored a solo try off a ricocheted grubber he put through.

Solo Saukuru had some strong carries and scored running a good line off a Max Liles cutout pass. Liles was also one of our better players once again.

Two others I'll mention positively are Jeremiah Leatigaga who provided impact off the bench especially off Haywood and Jack Nicholas. He didn't see much in attack or defence but made an impressive line break running straight & hard through the defensive line and looks reasonably quick; scored a try off an impressive deep redzone attack formation (nice final pass from Saukuru); and took a good contested bomb in defence.

Cameron Kanaan was threatening in attack too and continues his very good form since his return from shoulder surgery. Just got to get stronger as the last line of defence but that'll come.

Xavier Tauaifaiga did have some good carries reminiscent of his SG Ball form but his lack of size was really noticeable in this grade with a few poor reads in defence too. I think it's all about exposure for Xavier and then as few big pre-seasons in the gym.

No Max Taotua last night. He may have been held over for NSW Cup today if the NRL squad takes Faataape to Melbourne.

Thanks again for another great review BkackWhiteGold.
I haven’t watched it yet as it is starting to irritate me watching our lower grades, every week is like a repeat of the previous weeks, nothing seems to be changing for the better.
As you know I’ve long been a fan of the Taotua brothers and believes they are hidden gems waiting to shine in the right environment and with the right coaching.
Max Liles no doubt has some class and I think Jack Nicholas has good potential.
We no doubt have a few promising individuals amongst the rubble, but the lack of young player development is still a major concern.

Deserve a medal putting yourself through these watches and giving us the reviews BWG. Cheers

Not too long ago, all fans were able to watch the 1st grade game following the lower grades, all together on the one day.
Fans knew who were the club players and watched them rise through the ranks.
And they call the present system progress??
They call the present system Selfish Magpie dinosaurs spoiling it for the rest of us

I know people don't like to here it but our pathways system is fundamentally flawed in every regard. Poor players, no development, no planning, no coaching. We really are last in junior development. Everyone involved with the current system should be sacked, a full investigation into our pathways carried out by someone knowledgeable and experienced and a complete overhaul undertaken.

An external review?
Hmmm🤔

Seriously though it doesnt sound real good at all

The fact
Benji would have a big say in team selections and how we structure our NSW Cup team, so he would need to take some of the blame.
the fact that we have no exciting talents that aren't still in high school is an indictment on Benji and Betsey. The diabolical state of our NSW cup side for the past 4 years needs to be resolved. The players are a long long way from being of the standard required.

We should be blogging youngsters into a side full of talent, where everyone needs to compete and impress to keep their spots. That's the culture we need, but one we've never, ever had. Why?
