Toatua is listed as number 10 but playing in the centres which seems a bit strange, particularly with Saukuru in the second row, thoughts for those who know the players?

It was a bit of a meh game tbh.

Not strong opposition and the ref was terrible. It felt like he blew a penalty every set of six (for too high or inside the 10) so it was hard for either team to build any continuity.

Our hands and execution of structured plays in the 1st half was pretty bad but understandable with the chopping and changing of this side and spine lately.

I thought Haywood once again produced a classy display out of dummyhalf. Liles & Tannous had some good moments in the halves and a few try assists between them. Brookes (Deineiger) was good at the back and made some half-breaks being able to utilise his step and some good cover in defence.

Our left side was strong with Saukuru producing some strong carries & good hands. Mitch Taotua in the centres was once again one of our best with his carries, defence and also nice fast hands to put away Kanaan 1 or 2 times. Kanaan was up and down, some poor handling errors in the 1st half but some excellent finishing for 2 tries.

Archie Duncombe is starting to settle nicely into this grade and scored a nice try off a Liles ball. Godinet only got about 15 mins as left backrow, 2 or 3 strong carries. Broederlow was Broederlow, strong carries & good in D without being outstanding but did his job. A few errors and found out with high balls a few times was Will Craig offset by a try and strong runs out of yardage.

Leatigaga also looked good when he was on on both sides of the ball but unfortunately was assisted off with an ankle or lower leg issue with about 10 to go.

In summary, loving the progression of Mitch Taotua, Haywood, Kanaan, Leatigaga & Duncombe. Brookes, Tannous & Godinet just need time at this level but all 3 look likely. And Saukuru is starting to up the ante and hopefully time in the backrow will be a masterstroke.

EDIT PS: Once again we just lack power & impact in the middle. Epere is a big lump but slow & cumbersome.

Thoughts on leaving Mitch in the centres? Could be really dangerous and have some size to him in that position. Double Taotua's in the centres! Gives Saukuru more time at 2nd row to see what he can do too. I hope they keep giving Brookes game time and keeping Kanaan on a wing. I feel it works out best for both of them.

Certainly didn't look out of place but it was a weak opposition to be fair. It just shows he can be that backrower who can slot out into the centres if an injury occurs during a game.
