Sad news for Mikey Tannous and Wests Tigers. That will set his development back a little. The good news is having an injury at this age is not the end of the world. It allows players time to become educated on the game.

This is where a lot of great players have been made - time on the side-lines. They get an opportunity to actually watch games and analyse them. They see things they didn't know were there. I think we will see this in Jacob Liddle this year. He's going to have a blinder.

Great to see an optimistic prediction kazoo.

So it definitely was Tannous ...another report had it as the other young Lebanese player ...sorry name escapes me

Definitely Tannous with the ACL.

CJ Jardim the Ball halfback is another young half with a lot of potential. Think he might be Lebanese too. Had a good game, some very smart kicks.

No sign of Anjoul at hooker though. Wonder if he's injured or playing with Flegg this year. Any idea @Tiger19 ?

Not sure.
He was training with SG Ball over the summer but unsure of what’s happened from there.

Yes, was another Lebanese player being presented with his #7 jersey on the weekend (unsure of who).

Tannous is definitely the one injured.

Anjoul did his ACL in July last year playing club he is about 6 months into rehab

Thanks for the update - albeit bad news.

May be back for Flegg from after the first month or two.

Balmain deserved to win, and should have. Far too many dropped balls. Melbourne had probably 60-70% posession in the second half. When we had the ball we looked far better, but their fullback was a little Matty Bowen type. They had a much bigger side, a couple of Asofa Solomona clones but our were certainly getting the job done.
They had lucky tries. Ref had a poor game too but we still should have won. Had a shot at field goal from 45 out on the siren but Saukuru was wide.

We have another smaller guy in the waiting, as potential fullback, named Corey Thomas. Just read an article in the Courier Mail about him. (There's probably a feature online as well).
He was the Langer Cup schoolboys player of the year in 2020, and played five-eigth for Balmain SG Ball on the weekend.
I know it's junior grades. But is noted as being fast, a great defender and can also play lock (in which he played for North's Devils). Apparently signed late last year.
So if anyone's in attendance of the junior rep games, wouldn't mind hearing some feedback on the forum.
It's good to see that our juniors systems are receiving some much needed attention too.

Sad news on Tannous, as I've seen him mentioned a fair few times on here.

Looks like Corey didn't pass the HIA protocols so will be out for a week plus.

He didn't look that big on the field, but seems to have played well last year.

Anyone have the full article on him?

The 2020 Langer Cup schoolboys rugby league player of the year Corey Thomas made his debut for Wests Tigers affiliate Balmain in Sydney’s SG Ball competition over the weekend.

The Wavell State High School alumni played five-eight in the under 18 competition.

Thomas was voted the Langer Cup’s best player while playing fullback after helping Wavell go undefeated through the home and away season.

But Thomas is versatile, having also shone at lock for the Norths Devils and played five-eight on the weekend.

“No matter what number jersey you give him, he would be willing to have a go because he loves footy,’’ said 2020 Wavell coach Jim Francis.

“It would not matter whether it was jersey No.1, 13 or 6 – as long he was playing footy.’’

Thomas was a strangler when it came to signing with an NRL club, and despite a few clubs circling him, he did not pen a deal with the Tigers until toward the end of 2020.

Part of the reason may have been that he finished the season playing on one leg and was not at his best for half the season.

“He was basically playing on one leg but still wanted to play and he had a lot of heart,’’ Francis said.

“For a smaller bloke, it is a really good thing.’’

While Thomas is not a physical specimen, he is naturally strong and has fantastic timing in defence.

Last season he saved tries both with side-on covering tackles and also with front on defence near the tryline.

His courage and defence is one thing, but Thomas’ asset is his speed.

“He is blessed with speed and an ability to create something out of nothing,’’ Francis said.

“He did that in our campaign. He is a fast and has an ability to create an opportunity when there is nothing go on.’’

Francis said importantly Thomas was also eager to improve his game. “He was always asking for feedback and is willing to improve his game.’’

Off the field he described Thomas as a “character around the group’’ who was enjoying Sydney life.

Thomas joins a small army of players from the six Langer Cup sides having signed with NRL teams including Ryan Rivett (PBC to Cronulla), Xavier Savage (PBC to Raiders), Will Semu (Marsden SHS to Gold Coast), Xavier Va’a (St Mary’s to Broncos), Tom Weaver (PBC to Gold Coast), Evander Tere-Tongotaua (Ipswich SHS to Roosters), Jahream Bula (Keebra Park SHS to Gold Coast), Prinston Esera (Wavell SHS to Raiders), Blake Cesari (St Mary’s to Broncos) and Klese Haas (Keebra Park SHS to Gold Coast).

I'm curious. The Magpies struggled in recent years. What is the reason for the change in 2021? (albeit we are only two rounds in)

They're actually picking players who are good players! Not people's cousins, friends etc. Warren McDonnell was really bad for it thankfully he's gone. They signed lots of good juniors, Hartigan is very big on it

Magpies game to start soon

Laurie Daley cup
Wests tigers macarthur 12 beat the Dragons 10

Andrew johns cup
Wests tigers 16 lost to the Dragons 24

Tarsha Gale
Wests tigers 16 beat the Raiders 10

Magpies have two strong sides this year they won't lose many games I reckon.

Can anyone else confirm McDonnell is gone???

He was here, went to dogs, came back and now he's gone again. Heard it off someone who's in the know

Cant be specific, but I have not a lot of confidence in Warren. Glad Hartigan is here.
