If, and that's a big If, Potter sees out the season then effectively he hasn't been sacked. His contract expires this year and if the club chooses not to renew it then they are within their right to do so.

Reply of the year, good on you mate. Pretty original too.

Now, if you read my post, you will see nowhere did I say I agree with it. I merely pointed out the facts. The way this is being done in public is rubbish.

Me not being involved directly with the players and coaching staff, means I wouldn't have a clue what Potter is like behind closed doors ( as I suspect would be the case with most around here) . I have an opinion that he's a reasonable coach. But that's all it is, an opinion. Unfortunately these same communication issues arose last year. Can anybody on this forum confirm that the reason players renewed their contracts was because they believed there would be a new coach in charge next year? Does anybody know if Farah may have swayed Tedesco to stay by suggesting Payten or Kidwell would be head coach next year?

Maybe they stayed because they thought Potter would be extended, although players have been very, very quiet on that front.
From the outside Potter seems like he is doing a good job but it doesn't mean there isn't someone who can do it better. It's just the way it's being done that is shonky.

Some ridiculous over-reactions In this thread. Firstly it's a news ltd article and they enjoy nothing more than always putting out the worse case scenario about our club. Still even if it is exactly true is Mick a coach that will lead us to a premiership in the next 2-5 years? It is pretty obvious we have the talent to be competing for that in the next few years and we need to make sure we keep those players and have the right coach to get us there. I like all the other fans have no idea how Mick communicates with the players but at the end of the day coaching is a job in communication and if that is not being done well then it is a worry.

Conducting a review just to fire him… why bother club could have just told him he wasn't needed. Based on the way the club has been run in the last few years some sort of top to bottom review was necessary.

Mick might be getting a bit of a rough deal but I doubt the club is going to ditch a coach that they genuinely thought was a chance to taking us to a premiership. We need to make sure we have a coach who can develop and ensure we hang onto these players we have. We have a massive opportunity of being the next consistent top 4 team and we need to have a coach that the players want to play for.

What a waste of 3 paragraphs.

I disagree. It puts a good perspective on things in my opinion. Successful clubs make the tough decisions when needed. Brisbane with Griffin etc. Warriors are better for their change, as are St George. We want the right coach to lead us to a successful few years and if the club at this time feel he can't, with the review and input from other sources (CEO, players, assistant coaches) then I support it.

Wow, so many definitive opinions. So many fans who have more information than me.

Here I was feeling quite unsure about it all. I was thinking that I'd never heard of a team winning a comp who didn't respect their coach.

I was doubting a coach with a career win record of 39% whose biggest accomplishment is benching Marshall for 20 mins, yet played so many weak players week in week out (Ashford and Anasta as two examples)

I was wondering if our young players winning so many lower level comps, including playing Aust school boys, dominating 20's (with other coaches) dominated NSW cup (with other coaches) had miraculously become talented as soon as Potter began coaching them. Perhaps they had always been talented.

I also thought that people much closer than fans would be trust worthy enough to make decisions on this stuff.

That's for setting me right. I feel better now. A couple of the most influential guys on here know best.

There is a fair difference between sacking your coach to sign Wayne Bennett than for a guy who has never coached before. There is also a fair difference between sacking your coach when you are on the bottom of the ladder to when you are running equal 4th, as we will be if we win today.

Potter has done the job that he was brought in to do, that is clean the player roster. Thanks Mick but now its time to move on. Kidwell or Payto for me.

Privately, the board want the matter resolved before the possibility of Potter embarrassing the club by making the semi-finals.

Privately, GTFO.

Weve performed so poorly for years on end in the past and nothings been done….same ol same ol year after year.

Now this?

I dont get it....if they shaft Potter they deserve to have nothing positive...Im lost for words

gee ink that's a first you lost for words .I agree a shabby act potter deserves better

So has anyone tweeted Mayer and asked him whether its crap or not ??

He is usually on top of this sort of stuff

Sometimes silence can be golden , tells you a lot

I posted a topic after the Souths game saying Don't sign Potter yet and was vilified as I thought things on field could improve and was concerned the club was jumping in so my position on this matter goes back that far..this whole situation has been clouded by the antics of certain types within the club including players and other instergaters .
There is a right way and a wrong way of doing things ,this is again a Sheens type scenario that where the club should of acted and not signed Sheens for his final contract and now 2 years after he has left the club is still paying him.Now the situation with Potter is if the team makes the 8 he will have to be paid out for next season . So what the board members and some players are hoping that failure is the key to ridding them selves of Potter ,now that in itself is disgusting . This club is a disgrace of the highest order.
I do not know if Potter could be the best placed person moving forward ,I certainly know that appointing one of the assistants will be a disaster , if the club has a highly accredited coach with proven results to come on board well good but if this has been done so many has been players and self important admin types get there little power trip…...I never thought that the Aussie way was backstabbing and white anting a good man that has come to our club for a pittance and actually achieved what everybody thought was impossible this season that is a team that had been in the 8 for nearly the entire season and is on the cusp of making the finals ....I feel sad today that I am a Weststigers supporter and knowing these types are in our club .

oh boy, absolutely ridiculous stuff going on.

Robbie stated that the playing group has stayed out of it at their own request, so unless he's lying, this is purely a board decision (if what the Terrorgraph has stated is true). If that's the case, that it is the board, then I think it's time for the board to go.

Who's to say Kidwell will last with this board? Will we be going through this again next year with Kidwell?

looks like potter's supposed poor communication skills is more than made up by a senior player and/or board member's excellent coimmunication skills to the media.

big problem we've had with this club for ages is the amount of inofrmation that gets leaked to the media constantly, time after time. i do wish in time that the wests and balmain board structure we currently have goes away for good but that will never happen.

i dont know, we could excel under another coach but if any assistants or coachng staff have fuelled the flames to get rid of potter its obviously because anyone that steps into the role in the coming years will be eating pots of gravy and enjoying the success that our young stars will bring.

if this pans out to be true our season is probably shot. i would definitely be reconsidering going to anymore games this year and renewing memberhships next year.

There hasn't been any leaks all year.

The only supposed leaks have been all rubbish.

Let's remember the current leak is two player agents.

It is a stretch to suggest that players put them up to it.

Everyone needs to take a deep breath. Mayer has been for the most part excellent so far. Have a little faith. He has earned some trust. He has earned more trust than Potter has.

There are no conclusive facts in the public domain that are sufficient for any of us to make this decision.
