The secret meeting that sparked Benji Marshall–Isaac Moses feud

Benji Marshall versus Isaac Moses is currently one of the biggest feuds in rugby league, but the reason they have fallen out has remained a secret – until now.

Marshall, through his brilliant media performance on Thursday, is winning the public relations battle. The problem is Moses doesn’t care about that, and Marshall is likely to lose the Lachlan Galvin war. It appears it is now up to Marshall and CEO Shane Richardson as to how many people are wounded or killed off, from a professional standpoint, in the process. At the core of it all is the Marshall-Moses feud.

The Wests Tigers have slammed suggestions that Lachlan Galvin has been the victim of workplace bullying after it was revealed he wants to leave the club.
Neither side is volunteering the source of the dispute. Marshall’s people say it may be because of the coach’s need to stand up to Moses, and more recently because of the nature of the John Bateman and David Klemmer exits from the Tigers. Both of those men are Moses clients.
But it’s deeper than that. My sources say it stems back to a secret meeting between Marshall, Mitchell Moses, Tim Sheens and Isaac Moses in early 2023.
That meeting was held when Mitchell Moses was negotiating his contract and exploring the idea of a return to the Tigers. At the meeting, Isaac Moses believed Benji’s body language and attitude towards Sheens was disrespectful.
It was not raised at the meeting. Instead, Moses let him know as much via a phone call the next day, and Marshall told him what he thought of that viewpoint in a direct way. The pair have been off each other since.
Moses would not be drawn on the matter when we asked for comment. It has been suggested to me that Sheens and Marshall are no longer close.
Marshall has the strong backing of his team in the battle with Galvin and Moses, but he may have reason for concern. Moses’ list of grievances with the club regarding Galvin is said to contain at least 15 points.
Marshall is aware of some of them, and there are some very damaging claims which he will challenge strongly. He may even wish to consider enlisting the help of lawyers. It has the potential to derail Wests Tigers’ season.
Marshall will be wondering how things changed so quickly with Galvin. About six months ago, he asked me not to write about him going to dinner with the Galvin family as part of the wooing process.
That is both a nothing article and a nothing explanation for a feud. Because Benji's body language wasn't up to snuff for Pricksaac Moses, who is allegedly some staunch Tim Sheen white knight?

Could you seriously imagine going to a recruitment meeting and having the manager text you afterwards and say he didn't think your body language towards the coach was great. I would also have told him to go eff himself with a jagged stick.

Personally I don’t think Richo is stupid enough to offer someone a contract who doesn’t want to be here. Believe me or don’t believe me I know you lay the boot into people who have mail on here but Richo & Benji were genuinely taken by surprise over what has occurred the last week. There were positive talks over the contract all pre season otherwise Richo wouldn’t have put together an offer in the first place. Something in the Galvin camp changed the last 3 weeks & I don’t know if somethings happened at training or maybe the Warriors & Broncos losses had something to do with it but Galvins camp went quiet & then all of this came out. Richo sensed something wasn’t right hence why the contract offer came.
thanks for the insight.

I thought Benji's press conference showed how caught off guard he was with it all (as in all was going well and then took a turn in recent weeks).

I think another deal has been done behind the scenes and this is half the reason Richo has played this out in public. If it gets legal, records can be subpoenead.

I still believe the tigers are the victim in all this, we've just had to play a strong aggressive hand against a cunning manipulative pos.

If you watch the recent Wade Graham comments about the whole Lachie Galvin saga, he makes more sense than anyone.
He states yes Isaac Moses is at fault in his actions and comments as his manager, but Richo by putting out the statement about Galvin leaving is not any better.
As Wade says all the discussions with Galvin should have been kept in house and if we remain in the too 8 as the season progresses we could have been in a much better position to again speak with Galvinlater in the season with him possibly changing his mind and wanting to stay.
All this has done as alienated him and turned all our fans against him, keeping in mind the vast majority of 19 years olds think, say and do stupid things, often things they regret if they are given enough time to think about it.
Everyone knows Isaac Moses is a master manipulator, but Richo’s actions have just fallen into his trap.
Richo’s actions haven’t fallen into Moses trap. Moses has been briefing media for months, by their own admission, to get the narrative out that Galvin is leaving due to coaching not money.

It was a good tactical move by Richo and the club to ensure the media cycle isn’t dominated by the narrative Moses was pushing.

The club has bent over backwards to accomodate him, his parents and his scumbag manger.

Anyone actually having sympathy for Galvin is a moron. A 19 year old that was offered $6 million and we should feel sorry for him?

That’ll do me.

Has Isaac Moses just 4D chess'd us? We do have some ego's in the team. Moses probably knew they would blow up with the coach slandering leak, and the 7 things I hate about you list. This bullying thing is the ticket IMO. The club really needed to be on top of this - zero noise, blanket statement to repsond with.

I hope we can get to a stage where we dictate our involvement with Mr Moses.
Im not convinced they have anything. To prove bullying you need to show repeat behaviour, a couple of posts don't constitute bullying. Unless there is something else we aren't privy to, the club should be OK. The letter was a reaction to Benji's press conference, which put the club in a good light.

So far on social media 98% of people seem to be on Wests Tigers side to this. Hopefully it remains. I think people are a bit wiser than a few years ago for this stuff. Non Tigers fans are shitting on Galvin. I kinda feel bad for him. Isaac Moses is such a loser. Benji we know how important mental health is for him. I really feel for Benji. Its almost like narcassist abuse.
I think very many fans recognise this behaviour or potential within their own club.

For example a mate of mine, mad Roosters fan, asking me yesterday what I thought about the whole Galvin situation. He was quick to compare it to Joseph Suaalii and made the point it's the same manager, and I then made the point that JS wormed his way out of his Souths deal as well, only to then backstab Roosters a few seasons later. It's only a matter of time with these Folau-type mercenaries to put business before any kind of camaraderie, pact, mutual understanding or loyalty.

I recall being in New Orleans on a 'gator' tour to the swamp. The bus driver was a bubbly lady who informed us that her husband was raised by his parents to believe he is the baby jesus and that she would spend the rest of her life convincing him that he isn't.
Didn't help however that the bus driver's name was Mary Magdalene.

It needs to be over a period of time . It can’t be “they did this and I felt bad” . Especially when the club has reinforced social media etiquette to the players quietly .
The list is interesting , and will probably be used as some way to it was over a period of time .
My guess as well about the wrestling , is I wonder if Benji pulled Lachie out because often he guy at the dogs .

Its interesting that the cronies are out to get braith now, the one person seeing this situation for what it is

I know it's the daily mail but it sums up the narrative being pushed by the Galvin/Moses camp and just how deep the connections go.

Such a princess ....how embarrasing to acknowledge this light hearted banter has gotten under his skin

With you..i've been reading over this thread intently. It's something that doesn't sit well when you look at the release requests. Moses knew he could have negotiated something big with another club, especially after his rookie season but they were asking for releases earlier. There must be a heads of agreement sitting in a safe somewhere haha. This has become a power thing not a money thing I get the impression
I actually think it's like this:

Big 4... either one fat paycheck from 1 club... OR 4 fattish paychecks from 4 clubs.

Moses figures he can sell us Bula for 1 Million while he milks Parra for 1 million as well.
Plus Galvin can trash talk Benji so that when Webster, Payten or anyone goes for a new contract they can use the Tigers as leverage!

Seriously when is Valandys going to de-register this cretin?? How is he allowed to manipulate the media to his agenda without of some kind of sanctions???
Funny how Weedler has all the gos, gee wonder where he got that from? Also as a so called journalist how does he not ask why does a 19 year old kid have 15 grevenses listed down and brings it to a contract negotiation. Yet no questions on the 19 year olds sense of entitlement.

There is no way in hell we should let him go now. After all this…
And on those grievances wasn’t there originally 7-8? So now they’ve doubled to 15 all of a sudden? It’s a very catastrophising article..

The way a few Moses-managed head coaches are going , they might be looking for new jobs soon. Maybe being managed by the clown isn’t great for ones development.

It’s amazing how a lawyer letter or the like blows this thread up like a few deep puffs on some coals. If someone knows something then let us know, otherwise wear your bday suit tonight and get fired up for tomorrow, because all the rest is out of our control and doesn’t matter …

ok a little bit like the score tomorrow but eff parra and let’s smash em!

You seem to have quite a lot of hats....psychoanalyst as well.

Try responding to the points in my post instead of petty digs.

Im curious why you find it amusing that WTs fans might be a bit upset pissed off or emotional about this whole issue
I don’t find it haha funny. I find it weird funny.
Players come, players go. I’ve seen people say he betrayed us. You can’t be betrayed by someone who was never with you and this kid was only ever seeing this joint as a transit lounge. All things being equal, he likely never even debuts here if it wasn’t for management not releasing him and then promoting him above others.
So that brings us back to my point. Why does he hate it here so much?

I love it when some has a go at you - you just go off the deep end and pile on the name calling. Must be a great business you run.
It is actually.
lol name calling….yes I fire back when someone attacks me.
Do you never stick up for yourself? That explains your post….
