All the people saying to give him a deadline for the next 2 days are clueless. I seem to remember Ivan gave Tedesco and woods a 48 hour deadline and they were gone within minutes.

I don't get the motive for it. Is it so we can move on? What's the rush. I know the forum has been in meltdown mode for weeks because for some reason the deal should already be done. If talks are progressing and the club feels its in a good position, it can take another month for all I care. They can announce him Christmas day for all I care.

Or is the deadline to play hardball? Does anyone think he would really react with ''oh god, I better sign then''. No chance. He'll say good riddance. There's no advantage to setting a deadline, regardless of the intent.

Agree, but the longer we wait, the less chance of signing anybody. At the end of the day that $1m has to be spent and what happens if there is no one left to spend it on.

If anything once we are sure what is happening, maybe we up our offer, at least that will hurt the new club he is signing with.:grinning:

If the club fail to get him, then they have failed.

Please settle down. There is enough in this thread to confirm we should have confidence in the mgmt of our club.

There is nothing in this thread that has any relevance re the management of our club. Paws this isn't a comment against only yours per se, but more of a greater issue which bothers me a bit.

In that I just don't understand why some fans constantly tell other fans to have confidence in our management and faith in our coach. Why should we? Phrases keep coming like "in Madge we trust". Why?

For all the good things that have happened and the exciting potential, we still have had disappointment after disappointment on-field for 15 years with no sign of let up. We have had multiple coaches who left in ignominy and left us worse off; we have had multiple failures re player acquisition and even worse failures re player retention. We have hope for better training facilities but our identity crisis still continues to ensure what can only be called a home ground disadvantage.

We are the team with the longest finals drought and most of us are sick to death of it.
We don't need fans to settle down.
Quite the opposite.

Rant over.

But you'll be back come game 1 cheering them on.

Unfortunately yes ......we stupidly plod on believing the pre seasons promises and the fluff pieces knowing full well it is going to be same ol same ol

The irony in all this is could be we miss Mitchell , then not be able to find any quality players then not spend our 94% of the cap and get fined again

That’s my biggest fear. The window of opportunity to sign some quality gets smaller by the day and if LM is playing us and has his heart elsewhere, we’re better off giving him a deadline and looking elsewhere.

Brimson is now off the table. Talk Arrow is getting close to a deal. Both those guys would’ve been great for us.

I’d rather invest in youth and front load contracts then blow the money and pay overs on semi-decent players like we did last time we had some money.

If I was Mitchell and was mulling over where to play to be in a consistent top 4 side over the next 4 years, I would choose Souths without out a doubt. I also think from a cultural and heritage perspective Souths would be better.

If Mitchell is being driven by wanting to be a side which is very inconsistent but having the opportunity to help build something special then the Tigers would be a good fit.

If it is money then it really is a toss of the coin as he will get good dollars where ever he goes.

Frankly, if he comes to the Tigers great, fantastic to get bums on seats, memberships etc, great for sponsors but if he doesn't so be it.

It's funny, I think if we miss out on him it will be a complete and utter disaster.

Honestly, i would rather miss out on Mitchell, if it does eventuate that he does come only as a stop gap for a year to remain in first grade, them pulls a Matterson to get to souths in 2021. Three months ago everyone was content to keep thompson at fullback next year, he needs work in attack but his heart is in it, if Mitchell did come as a way to avoid playing cc id be gutted as a supporter that we would be removing Thompson from fullback after the way he has probarbly been one of our best players for the past two years. Thompson deserves better than that he has earned it. In saying that though i would love Mitchell at fullback he is an upgrade to Thompson and it is a competative sport and im a realist i want to win. So long as Mitchell is committed and his heart is in it. Great. If not i wouldnt bother, itll just cause too much drama in the squad and club in the next twelve months. Hopefully he didnt see Matterson getting away from the Tigers as a sign of our clubs weakness and we can insert some form of clauses to protect ourselves, make it clear to him any breach or request to leave will result in him sitting out not playing, ir this could get ugly for us if he is just signing to escape the roosters while he waits twelve months for souths to sort their cap out. I personally dont think he would hes too high profile but i hope weve learnt from Matterson and arnt seen as some form of push over stop gap.

PR wise I totally agree ..we have literally tried to move heaven and earth (maybe even tried to help put out fires ) to sign Latrell

With clubs dropping out left ,right and centre it makes our upper management look bad

From a football perspective , if we can still get two quality forwards with the same money we do this right way and then many more potential players can see we have recruited well , have a good basis in the forwards and defensively and look a far better proposition

How does it make us look like a disaster? We have shown that we are a club that is now in a position to compete for the best players in the game. When have we ever been in a position to do that?
South's are formidable opponents when it comes to Latrell and we all know why - it's been well documented in regard to his family's attachment to the club. Any other club competing to get him against South's would face the same barriers.

@happy_tiger If Mitchell goes elsewhere I would not blame the club at all ..a bit like Teddy was always going somewhere else. The club have been proactive and transparent in these dealings and it seems what has been transpiering of late they are just being used to up the anti money wise ..it will be a kick in the guts for many that wanted this to happen but it is not the clubs fault it seems they are doing every thing they can ..blaming the club that is just a cheap shot !

The way things are travelling at the moment we have lost our best player from last season as well as our hooker and we haven't signed anyone that's played more than a handful of NRL games. In addition to that, the players that are available are reducing by the day.

We are in danger of entering 2020 in a worse position (at least in first grade) than 2019. And that's not being negative it's just being realistic.

If you believe the discussion on the thread of the moles tweet, Mitchell agreed to terms with Souths over the weekend, only for his management to contact the Tigers and ask for more money to use against Souths as a bargaining chip. Mitchell apparently unaware phoned Bennett and Richardson personally to apologise and confirm his commitment to Souths.

Sounds messy. Less confident now

Still unsure how Souths have enough cap space to sign him. Also Roosters have said they wouldn't release him to Souths for 2020

@GNR4LIFE Of course he would. How else do you get a bidding war going? You would entertain offers from any club particularly one who might be willing to pay overs so that your preferred club has to make at least a reasonably comparable offer. That's negotiation 101.
