Latrell Mitchell Contract Discussion

I know I’m connecting the dots here, but.
How good would it be if the following were to happen.
JAC swap deal for Josh Reynolds. (JAC wants to move for family reasons), melbourne release Brody Croft; in need of solid back up and Josh Reynolds miss’s and family is from Melbourne.
Tigers re enter negotiations with LM and sign him and Ado Carr as 2 out of our 5 backline!

Its being reported everywhere that we've pulled our offer. If we were to sign him now we'd look pretty indecisive. Even though behind the scenes our stance might be justified, it probably wouldn't be good PR to reverse course from here. The more I think about it, the club probably believes he's a 90-95% chance of not coming here, so think that's enough to take this stance.

LM would also look pretty silly if he suddenly agreed to our terms so I think as POM said it's pretty much ended our chances of signing him

Pascoe and Maguire better have something else lined up so they don't look any more stupid than they already do.

They are obviously doing their best

They are the ones that really know what's going on

LM is probably hoping for something better

Can't blame Pascoe and Madge for that

At least they tried

This pulling of the contract shows we have balls

LM no longer has bargaining power

Other clubs dealing with him have power over him now

He may struggle to get anywhere near what he wants now

Time to move on

Maybe he will suddenly realize this is his best option and commit

But we've made a powerful stand that I believe will give us power in future dealings with any potential player

Today's announcement from Pascoe was a shot across the bow at Mitchell's management. Discussions directly involving Latrell himself has been positive & every indication was given he would be joining but since dealing directly with his management that's when the games have started, many at the club believe he's not getting the full story from his management & hence the very public withdrawal today. There's still every chance he could join but the handling of this from his management team has been nothing short of disgusting !

"Since dealing with his management, that's when the games have started"
Who were they dealing with before?

We reached out to his management to arrange a meeting with Latrell which happened discussions where had via phone after between him prior to going on holidays, since we've now only been going through his manager that's when things started going sideways. An agreement was reached last week but since that "verbal" everything has been silent & his manager has in a way blocked any chance of moving forward. A meeting was arranged this week face to face but then got pushed back & then cancelled leading to todays annoucment

in your opinion do you think we'll still sign him, if he gets his managers in line? also any truth to the fox rumor?🙂

No I don't, it's not completely dead in the water but I think that door is closed. Yes JAC is 100% a target but it's a case of what the Storm think. 2 years to go on his contract, find it hard they would let him go easily. Bellamy is a man manager & it's family/personnel reasons he wants to leave Bellamy is the type to find a way to make it work.
Advantage we have is that Addo-Carr loves this club since he was a kid & dreamed of playing alongside Benji

Thanks @THE_POM. Sounds like a frustrating series of events for us. Any idea what our ‘Plan B’ is and who we may turn this bulk of money towards outside of Addo-Carr?

Brimson off the table now, Leilua the only other name that’s sounded fairly solid. Arrow? Frizell? Lomax?
Munster (rumours he’s unhappy at Storm)?

I think a few people in the know had said after the Matto release that the Tigers would come out of this far better off, but I’m yet to see anything to indicate we are and I hope we didn’t pull all our eggs in the LM basket?

Madge has a plan more than a Plan B, Pascoe's efforts to clear salary cap space has been massive & putting us in a really strong position. Leilua is 100% done for 2020 also trying are best to get Musgrove approved & registered for 2020. He's kept himself really fit & would be great to have onboard. Speaking in relation to the bulk amount of $$ for 2020 it's all a massive chess game waiting for the 1st piece to move. Latrell could be that piece just depending on where he goes.

Thanks mate, we all appreciate your info. So Leilua and Musgrove are decent additions, but any big names you think they’ll go hard for if LM doesn’t turn around quick smart?

Surely we’d want to be very proactive with the market drying up for top talent?

Or do you think we’ll look to use the money to front load some of these dud contracts so we have more cash for 2021?

@POM, if you are still on. Confirmation of Stepheno from Parra? And is a deal likely to be arranged for 2020?

@THE_POM sorry.

what pisses me off must is the time we wasted chasing a player who really didn't want to come. we have missed out on a few players that could define our season ahead. we could have signed tetavano and or capewell that would have made are pack so much stronger. we could have signed lomax as fullback and as a 1st choice kicker, all 3 off them would have made the tigers a much stronger club. but that's just my take. just another point to all those on here who say hold the money for 2021, DO WE PURE DEPRAVE SUPPORTERS REALLY WANT TO WAIT ANOTHER YEAR, I don't, we have the cap now sign what we need and we will have cap space next year to add others players , sick of waiting get it done.

First, we haven't missed out on Lomax yet. Secondly, Capewell would not have made our pack "so much stronger" - he's a sieve in defence and if we can get Leilua then we'd be better off than with Capewell. Thirdly, we didn't miss out on Tetevano because of pursuing Mitchell, we missed out on Tetevano because Penrith were prepared to pay more than we were.

Parra really peeved we've even got him for 2021 & looking to do us no favours but Tigers doing their best to get him for 2020.

Has he signed yet???
Hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
You gullible fools!!!

I told all you fools from the start, players like Latrell Mitchell don't come to the Weststigers.
I really can't believe you actually thought it would happen.

We should be after Scott and if the Titans want LM revisit Brinson.

Brimson is done. Re-signed. Next.

Tetevano? Capewell? They are as good as we have not counting the fact Tetevano is a woman basher.

They are irrelevant in basing our recruitment on.

You're acting like a spoiled baby. The club made him a good offer, he wouldn't commit, the club moved on. What exactly do you want them to do?

It's also quite possible that the Tigers have realised they're playing a strong hand - they've pulled this offer, but have left the door open to making a (possibly smaller) one if Mitchell gets his s- together.

I'm not acting like a baby at all. This club has a long track record of making poor decisions. It's a bit of a pattern. If they have no contingency plan you don't think they're stupid? If Thompson is fullback round 1 next year will you be happy?

Lettrell withh his stupid special demands would have a great effect on team morale don't you think? Also do you really think that the club with over a $million CAP space hasn't a contingency plan?

I still think if he goes to any club in 2020, it will be us. The Roosters have indicated he'll be in reserve grade in 2020 if he stays. So his options are limited. This could be one of those rare times playing hardball with a player could actually work in your favour.

I'd hope we now reduce the offer though. We have more leverage as a result of pulling the offer as no other clubs really have the capacity to bring him on board. We may legitimately need to reduce the offer since it's clear we're well in the market for other players (and even if there isn't an offer to someone else in the meantime - LM's manager doesn't need to know that).

Talks with Mitchell went fine when dealing directly with him. Once only talking to his agent things went silent. We have now put the onus on their camp to show that he is genuinely interested and wants to get a deal done. If Mitchell organises another meeting with the club and his agent he could sort it all out.
Yes his agent would lose face a bit, but his client would get what he wants. If an agent isn't doing what his client wants him to do then who knows LM may even get rid of him! LM is currently going to lose a lot of money because of his agent.
