Latrell Mitchell Contract Discussion

So question for you all..
Ever sense we pulled the offer for LM the rumours are we have looked in Milf, Drinkwater and Moylan with no success..
Milf - Would be a good pickup in my book
Drinkwater - Would be a cheaper one and would be happy to have him
Moylan - If he was on the cheaper end I would consider but his injuries concern me

So with LM options even more thin do we take another punt and maybe increase our offer ? I for one would take the punt as its not every day we have a chance to get someone of his class.. I know it might be a risk but he is game changer, can kick goals, Would bring in sponsors and memberships ...

It just seem like everything is in line for it and don't want to spend the money we have created on a has been or injury prone player..

I think we left the ball in his management’s court.

Have we upped our offer yet?
1.2 a year, 5years.
What a big difference he would make.
Give him What he wants.
Whatever's left, give to jac.
Top 4 spot, here we come

Nah, too much, regardless of his abilities.

Let me run a hypothetical scenario past you....

Souffs make him an offer some time ago, perhaps even prior to Nov 1..(.gasp), perhaps around the time that Souffs favourite son and Relationships Australia ambassador says "my shoulder hurts". Latrell likes the offer and says yes.

I know its a bit of a stretched theory, but what do you think the result of that scenario would be?

* Roosters would pull offer if they caught wind of it.......tick
* Roosters would make a strange seemingly unprovoked comment that they would release him to anyone for 2020 except for Souffs because...you know...feuds.......tick.
* Latrell would seemingly meander around with seemingly half arsed efforts of contract negotiation without a care in the world.......tick.
* Latrell would knock back seemingly generous offers from other clubs, even when there seems to be a lack of other options.........tick
* Latrell and his management would poorly deal with Tigers management, Latrell was supposedly positive but then his managment just ignored Tigers.......tick.
* Souffs would STFU.......tick

What we actually know and looking on from the outside, what is going on with Latrell makes zero sense and the media and most people jump to the obvious conclusion that Latrell and/or his management are incompetent idiots without a clue. For me it makes more sense if something like what Ive said above is the case, then things make sense.

I agree with you. I'm convinced there's more to this than LM and his manager being incompetent or ignorant. While I was initially really keen to see him play with us I now don't want a bar of him. I believe he and his manager are duplicitous and disingenuous. I believe they entered into discussions without ever intending to seriously consider our offer. He had the money he was after and, if you believe the stories, was offered the chance to play fullback. Yet he didn't really seriously engage with us. He let us go to Taree but couldn't be bothered coming to Concord. I don't buy what Pascoe said about him conducting himself well. I think he has acted with little integrity. I think he'll go to Souths too but it may not be until 2021. Who knows where he'll be next year.

I think it said in the article that his manager got latrell's business by promising a million a year deal. By all reports (Yeah I know... ) we haven't offered him that?
I don't know. If its a squabble over a couple of hundred grand we would earn that back easy.

I don't think Easts said publicly they wouldn't release him to Souths....media horseplay I think.

Not saying it's not without substance though as Nick can't stand Crowe and parts of Souths.

Souths can't have made an offer as they have no money. They can make an offer for 2021 and he can accept that now no problems. Why wait if that were the case? They would announce the 2021 move and work on the Roosters to let him go early...
To go there next year they need burgess' money, which may still be 3 months away. Is he going to miss the entire preseason for the chance to sign with souths? Even then, souths have lost burgess x2 and have to replace the them as priority. Their backs did the job last year.

The Titans can afford him for 2021 as they have Latu, Proctor, Peats and James off contract. They paid huge money for Latu, Proctor and Peats well over 1.5m. Even if they lose Arrow not on huge money they won’t have the cash this year.

The Rabbitohs only have Alex Johnstone off contract in 2020 and will struggle with the funds even with the Burgess money. They will have to replace Sam, George Burgess and also John Sutton. Cody Walker also has a big deal in front of him also. In 2021 Souths have to pay Murray, Graham, Gagai, Reynolds, Roberts and Sua.

The Tigers felt they were the only real option and they may be right. My guess is he collects his cash from the Roosters and signs for 2021 with his team of choice. I still believe the Tigers have moved on completely. Would take a complete reversal for them to go back at this stage even with a pen in hand ready to sign.

I don't get why you all think Latrell is the answers to anything, let alone everything! YES he is talented but without fitness, application and good advice he is nothing. WT have plenty of nothings for far less money as it is.

You can't compare Mitchell to what we already have. And seriously, what would we have to lose, Not making the 8? We've gotten nowhere with middle of the road signings. Guys like Mitchell attract other. Been years since we've had one of those players.

Well he hasn’t proven himself at full back yet.

He was pretty damn good when he debuted there.

Latrell would be a great addition to any roster. But most clubs cant operate like the Roosters- and fitting in a player like Latrell who wants big dollars limits where he can go. Its just not feasible for them to think that multiple clubs will be able to come up with million dollar contracts all at the same time just because Latrell is available. Players starting to out price themselves compared to what's available in the cap. At some point something had to give.

Correct. At this point in time it is a buyers market and the only team that could buy at the figure close to what he allegedly wanted was us. The fact that Latrell possibly couldn't see this pretty obvious situation, or chose not to see it, makes you think something else is going on (Souths in 2021 my tip).

The more I think about it the more I think we've dodged a massive bullet here. At his best LM is massively good but I doubt we would have seen him at his best at WT except for the odd game. He has blotted his copy book at Easts and now with us. I think he will increasingly become problematic no matter where he plays in the future. He should make this contract count because, if he gets another one, I predict it won't be anywhere near the value of this one.
I only wish we'd been a bit stronger with our words when we pulled our offer. I would have said something along the lines of "WT were disappointed with how negotiations proceeded and WILL NOT BE involved in further negotiations with the player. However we wish Latrell every success in the future." The says Mitchell and his manager behaved like d...heads without actually saying it.

If the rumour is right that Tigers have offered $1.2m for 4 years it might be hard to knock back.

I hope not. As I've said in an earlier post, I wouldn't have him now anyway. But you have to ask for any player - what money constitutes overs? If I was interested in him it would be at no more than $1m per year. $1.2m are overs by 20%.

Where did that rumour come from? I haven't heard that.
