Latrell Mitchell Contract Discussion

Whether the story has legs or not is one matter, though having Hartigan at Concord gives WT an insight into just what has been going on Mitchell wise at the chooks.

@formerguest Yep, forgot about the Roosters/Hartigan connection. Adds a whole new dimension to the Matterson saga too. Who knows to be fair.

I'm going to go back to something that happened a few months ago on the Matty Johns Podcast with John Singleton and then the comments from Politis the following day

I get the feeling that maybe that if the Roosters have a Sombrero instead of cap it is going to shrink .......

If could get him for a couple hundred thousand more than we are paying Reynolds, it would be amazing.

As others have said he could go either way, but worth the risk IMO. Earlier in the season he was their go to for attack ahead of Tedesco.

He could also be the catalyst for other talent to join. He’s also a gun goal kicker.

Big yes from me.

Can't see it happening but if by some chance it did it would certainly be a turning point for the club. At 22 he has plenty of growing up to do but we havnt seen the best of Latrell unlike some of our other signings in recent times.

I'm usually quite positive about our rumoured signings but not this time. Mitchell has undeniable talent but, equally undeniable is his not infrequent attitude issues. I happen to think that the Roosters with Trent Robinson would be one of the better clubs to deal with a player like Mitchell but it looks like they might have just decided enough is enough. I can't see us being as good as the Roosters in getting the best out of Mitchell. Too big a risk for me.

initially I went WTF / why would we do it.

Then I processed it and provided he plays fullback I would be ok with signing him. Thomo is solid but he makes a few mistakes and doesn’t offer enough options for our attack to create major problems. Mitchell does.

He doesn’t just provide match winning capabilities with the ball in hand but is a bloody good goal kicker as well.

If he played with us last year we would of made the finals on goal kicking alone.

All players have issues on / off the park but at 22 and the current nsw/aussie player we would be nuts to pass up a chance if he was to come.

Be alot better than Milf/Moylan or any other back out on the market.

Regardless of Pooper’s speculation, Tigers would surely have to consider Mitchell. He’s asking for fullback money and the Tigers have been in need of one since uncle Nick snatched our Teddy.

Mitchell is still developing and learning the game but his talent and ability is undeniable. He played a lot of fullback in the juniors and now that he’s beginning to really establish himself at NRL level he might be ready to shift back to that position, take on more responsibility and excel. Given the opportunity to play at fullback he could well end up rivalling Tedesco as the games best.

If the Tigers are looking to spend marquee money, I’d rather the club spent it on Mitchell than Milford. There’s a certain amount of ‘risk verses reward’ in every signing, and you certainly don’t want to compromise the overall roster and the obvious need to strengthen other areas, but the potential upside on Mitchell could be enormous.

Team with money to burn linked with hottest player on the market. Didn’t see that coming at all.

Agree with you there. If Easts are having issues and want to cut ties with him then that speaks volumes to me. Mitchell would be an amazing signing if he had his head screwed on properly, but his attitude and apparent ‘big head’ may we’ll derail his career if something doesn’t change soon. Remember he was also dropped from Origin this year for the same issues. His association with Mundine doesn’t help either, that guy just stirs up trouble wherever he goes. Everyone he has aligned himself with over the years seems to automatically turn into a wanker lol.

Be careful what you wise for ... has the penny dropped yet that the Roosters do not want Mitchell !! I would not go anywhere near him ...sorry to upset the party here , just like Souths they could not wait to get rid of Burgess ... Talent is one thing it is the baggage that is the problem!

I reckon Madge's hard nosed professional approach could turn Mitchell's attitude around like it did with Matterson..

As I wrote elsewhere, WT new recruit in Hartigan would know the situation and advise appropriately.

FOX Sports reported that Wests Tigers could make Mitchell a $3.3 million offer for the next three seasons, having freed up money with Ben Matulino's retirement and Ryan Matterson's looming departure. However, the deal would be contingent on Mitchell playing fullback, which would require better fitness.

Strong mail coming out of the Roosters is he's gone from there and we are a big chance, with Hartigan a big link between us and Latrell
Same source is usually very reliable although he did have TPJ heading to the Roosters previously so he's not perfect but his strike rate is high
