Maguire said working out the club’s salary cap situation was his top priority.

Except for coaching New Zealand !

Mate .... hes got ample people on the ball in OZ crunching the Club Cap numbers.
He's a coach!

Madge is just talking in code. Absolutely he knows what money is available when, the only limitation being funds he can't control personally e.g. external options for existing players to move on, or waiting on agreements for new players to join the club.

He's smart enough to just hose down speculation, but every club says the very same thing anyway: "yes we'll look at all potential options".

Didn't teams try Val Holmes at fullback and he couldn't lock it down? I wasn't super keen on Mitchell but I feel he has atleast shown more at fullback than what Holmes has. Would hate to spend 1mill pa on a winger.

@jirskyr My guess is (and we're all guessing on this forum except for maybe one or two) that we have already spoken to LM if indeed we are interested. It wouldn't have to be Madge who made contact. It's more likely to be Adam Hartigan who would have some history with LM from his Easts days. That contact might have been nothing more than telling him that we are looking at making an offer and advising him not to accept any offers until he's seen ours. If Mitchell is smart he'll wait and look at all offers before deciding. Although most of us are in a hurry to hear about signings I'm pretty sure WT will move when they're ready and not before.

WT hired him as the incumbent kiwi coach and our squad is on holidays, so no dramas.

Yeah but as we have seen plenty of times the NRL never sleeps .....anything can change in any situation overnight

Another Day and another Fox (Hoops) Headline .....
"Latrell Mitchell and the mystery $250k Mercedes: First sign wheels had fallen off at the Roosters" ......

Now this may be drawing a long bow BUT ...... Didn't Wests Tigers try to lure $400m car baron Neville Crichton to Concord???

Didn't realize that Latrell is related to Evonne Cawley .....he could learn a lot from her , that's for sure

Maybe not ...I read that he changed his own name from Goolagong to Mitchell.

Shows what loyalty and contracts means nowadays. If you want more money, sniff around, cause friction and good chance of being released.

I wonder who will be the first club to try and dock money from under-performing players?

Normally I agree with this type of view but I think it's a bit different in this case

Seems Latrell was signed to end 2018 but was extended before season 2018 out to 2020 and they upped it to $450k for 2019 & 2020, not sure what they did about the 2018 season

He's now had 4 years in 1st grade and made SOO and Australia honours since his extension and won two comps, so no doubt he's worth a lot more

I think it's reasonable to expect the Roosters would do something about upgrading and to be fair they have they have, offering $800k a season for 2021 & 2022 (2020?), two seasons after his last contract was signed, so maybe a touch late given his progression since then. At $450k a season for a Rep player and a big difference maker in their team of stars, it's way unders and to me that's why it has come to this

He deserves more, they offered more, so fair play to the Roosters, but he believes he can do better. His looking elsewhere was in response to an offer he found to be short of the mark. That's a different situation to the Matterson saga and I can't begrudge him doing the best he can for himself

Instead, he baulked and wanted more time on the open market.

So the Roosters did the honourable thing by their club and its principles and pulled the offer off the table.

Where Mitchell ends up next is still very much up in the air. But he’s almost certainly played his last game for the back-to-back premiers.

Yeah they don't associate.

@momo_amp_medo might have won it playing golf. Will probably have to return it if he leaves the chooks.

Rep player, game winner, kicks goals... Sure he can be inconsistent but very few players are consistently great. We're not going to make and win finals with bargain basement cheapies

Do you think we're in with a chance of getting him?

Yes
