Probably read it on here and quickly typed some crap up. Bloke is a dead set grub. Calls himself a supporter/member but goes out of his way to make the club look bad. 99% of what he writes is speculation and invariably wrong.

Going off Hopper we haven't even spoken to Mitchell yet directly. Perhaps just his agent?

The first thing you'd do in a meeting is outline for vision for the player and the club. If they haven't done this yet then it's still early days.

A face to face was always going to be necessary. Going to him, especially whilst he's helping family and friends wit fires, shows how much we respect and value him.

There have been 2 separate instances in the last 24 hours of Corey Thompson alluding to him coming. One was an article where he said he'd be great for us, another, someone on LU posted that he'd played OZ tag night and he was confident we'd get him. The new chairman has mentioned it to. There's little doubt that our club has been in talks with him.

Strange for Hooper to be wide of the mark...

He's a bit behind on his forum reading it seems...

Ultimately I think the Roosters under did their offer to Latrell and it backfired on them
Angus Crichton is a great player but not more valuable than Latrell in my opinion and he was on $2.7m over 3 years (2019 $1.0m, 2020 & 2021 $850k) and they offer less to Latrell at $800k
Maybe the cap is having it’s very first bite back at the Chooks, but that’s probably wishful thinking

G'day @bigsiro: I know how you feel re Latrell Mitchell coming here/not coming here.

I felt the same when we missed out on the once in a lifetime opportunity of Tim Mannah coming here...

But they have a fullback and they arguably the best

Why they are where they are ...you don't pay overs for centres even the best in the game

Why are no other club interested though...

I know it's pessimistic, but I just can't see him coming here.

Originally, I was in the side of those who say too much money for someone so frustratingly inconsistent, but the more talk about him coming, the more excited I get about it.

Even if he doesn't deliver every game, it's such a massive signing that other positive things will start rolling in around it.

Others aren't interested because they largely don't have the coin.

@happy_tiger He will shine at Wests tigers.

Corey Thompson shines at the WT's as well

Robbie looked like the 2nd coming as well

I’ve been told there are Tigers officials heading to Taree to finalise the paperwork.
Of course with the cooling off period anything could happen , however for now all this hype in the media seems to have merit .

Cooling off period...?

I don't think it will ever cool down now

I feel exactly the same, I was in the NO camp initially especially after seeing his woeful performance for Australia that just tipped me right off him.
But.... This club needs a big name signing, it needs a player to excited about, and one in their prime and with plenty of upside.
We definitely need a fullback and a strike weapon and he fits both.

The $$$ are the ? but I think if he produces his best he's a bargain.
He'll definitely lift the confidence and belief in the team to a new level and we need to if we want to play semi finals footy.

So I can definitely see the positives outweighing the negatives.
At this stage though if we don't get him I can see that being a big kick in the guts and having a negative effect going into next season.

The biggest issue for me is a true million dollar player best and worst shouldn't be that far apart

Look at your Smith's ,Thurston's , Johns , Tedesco's ,Taumalolo's

That's why I question paying 1 million for Mitchell ...bit like spending a million on Hunt you just won't get enough million dollar performances in a season ....and particularly when you need it against sides like the Storm ,Roosters etc

Speculation Happy.
I would consider Mitchell to be worth more than million dollar blokes like Hunt, Foran , Ash Taylor, Milford, Pearce, Shaun Johnson, Jack Bird and plenty of others close to a million a year.
Plus he can still get better... it's worth the risk.

The problem if we pay way too much is when / if they get injured ....the rest of your salary cap has to be able to cover for him

I'm not against signing Latrell , lets get the price right within a 100 k

IF the reports are true and LM comes at $2.7M over 3 years - Unbelieveable - Fantastic! But we need to back him up with some other good signings - we need 2 forwards and an outside back as well.
LM can't do it all for us - a few seasons ago we lacked any attacking variation and ended up throwing the ball to Teddy in the hope he could do something. In the end he tried too hard, too often and I believe that lack of support contributed to his moving on. Look at Teddy in a side where that responsibility is shared and he is relieved of the pressure of carrying the whole team. The same thing happened years ago to Benji when we had no decent half or fullback. You could argue that Latrell at the Roosters and Latrell at the Tigers may not be the same player unless we have a team that can step up to his level.
Winning consistently in the NRL still requires angry, mobile, big guys paving the way across the ad line and standing up to everything the opposition throws at you. We need a couple of those guys as well!

Looking through the Roosters, and I know you can take things with a grain of salt, but their salaries for 2019 floating around for their top 5 plus Latrell are as follows:
Cronk $1.0m
Crichton $1.0m (20 & 21 $850k)
Teddy $1.0m
Cordner $850k (more than $800k per season)
Keary $700k ($2.2m 3 years)
Latrell $450k

That's $5.0m for 6 players and potentially JWH & Friend are on Latrell type money or better. Let's say $400k each and they've spent $5.8m on 8 players with $3.8m left for the remaining 22 players at an average of $172k each

I know there's TPAs and even $200k of veteran relief but it doesn't add up

In the words of Tooves, there's got to be an investigation!!!!!
