Latrell Mitchell Contract Discussion

@Strongee just coz he can stand in a hole in the defensive line doesn't mean he can cover multiple positions does it? Couldn't get the 6 from Jrey or Benji, couldn't get fullback from C.Thompson and we literally have no 9 next season and he's not being earmarked for that. What's the positions he can cover you speak of? To try and say he's worth a mill a season because he can fill a spot on the team sheet is ridiculous.

I reckon he was pretty good last season in the centres. The issue is how much is he getting paid. I don't believe it's anywhere near a million dollars per season. We signed him up and the Dogs had to chuck some money in.

@Earl yeah this next year it's all tigers from my understanding. He played a handful of games at centre and that was only because he was floundering around like a fish out of water at fullback.

@Dyloh what are you talking about ? All the things you pointed out , are all based around the team , rather than moses’ flaws ie. set starts vs ball playing . Madge realised what we all did , that Moses wasn’t the best at kick returns , but was far superior ball player . And thommo was a better choice .
IMO Moses was Easter at dummy half , tiring him out with all the defence , also his body wasn’t built for that .
We had benji and Reynolds for the halves . And Mbye as I stated added heaps at centre . So I don’t understand your negativity

@Strongee I’m not even really saying sign someone, I’m more saying he is a waste of a spot, I would rather see his spot filled with a junior player to develop, I understand your passion on the matter, but the fact is... Mbye was a bad signing imo, we’ve shuffled our edges to accommodate the fact that he wasn’t performing at fullback, while I do agree he showed positive signs at the 3, Imo it’s not good enough, Tigers have to be demanding, and change the way we handle things, simply put “If you don’t perform the role we intend- Then you lose your spot”
If a coach is clearly not doing a good job, he gets fired, we don’t shuffle the staff to suit HIS needs.
Should be the same for the players.
And Mbye an origin player was a joke... they used him for a so called spark off the bench... which didn’t happen, and let’s not forget who won that series.
Not saying it was because of Mbye they lost, but clearly, the QLD camp made poor decisions, I’m just saying Mbye was one of them.
The fact he is on high dollars just makes it worst.

@Strongee sorry mate I couldnt really make sense of the last paragraph. Point is mbye being on a massive contract and not having a position is a big problem. To say he was moved to centre to benefit the team as apposed to the team trying to find somewhere to put him because he was Captain/Highest paid player seems a bit of a stretch.

I know some of our roster didn't fire last year .... but think 2020 may just be the time to give all that remain to show what they have left in their tank. There is skill and potential still there that may surprise many. will have to wait and see.
Then based on 2020 results come September ..... will be "clean out" year for Madge.

@Chaos you’re not changing the team to suit him , you’re finding his spot in the team . He has talent , it’s about maximising this . To say he’s a waste is crazy . Talent is talent , it’s about fitting that talent into a cohesive unit . Geezus , half the nsw sides from the 90s has Fittler 3, Daley 6 , Toovey ,Johns , kimmorley etc 7 and 9 . That team killed it .
Specialising isn’t the right thing to do . Having Mbye is a huge plus , let alone the intangibles. Some people have zero idea how this actually works .

@Dyloh wasted at dummy half . Sorry auto correct . You really have to train to be in the middle . Most of the guys have insane power to weight ratios . Luke and Farah , are case I’m point of this . Not everyone is Cameron Smith ,, where they’re body just can endure punishment .

I just hate the constant bagging of players like Mbye and Brooks . The guys have talent to burn , and a above average utility and a Dally M winning halfback are really really hard to come by.
The issue is strike . Mbye is a finesse player , we need someone to put the fear of god into other teams when at full speed .
If I had to target 1 player in a dream scenario to sign , it would RTS , then followed closely by Mitchell.
The fact we can get one is insane .

@swag_tiger seriously how would they know?

In the Telegraph - said he would rather stay in Taree and help out than go to Vegas.

@Strongee You bring up names that are legends of the game, and mention the word talent.... the name Mbye shouldn’t be mentioned in such a paragraph.
I’m sorry but Mbye is an average player, sure he has talent, but the amount of talent to Be a 1st grade footballer in the NRL, that’s it.
By wasting a spot I mean.... why let a great potential young player leave the club because Mbye was at Center.
I applaud you for your continued patience with these average jo players, just understand, this is only my opinion, and I for one am sick of watching other teams play finals footy while us tiger fans are stuck in the same situation year after year, changes need to be made, keep decisions simple... play for your spot, play well and you keep your spot, sign a contract- Honor the contract, respect the jersey !

The people on the Chook pen are saying Mitchell is not going to Vagas with the Roosters and is likely to sign with us on 100k more then they offered.

What they offered? They’ve offered him nothing. They pulled their offer.

@Chaos it’s not about patience ! It’s about talent , that’s there to see . The roosters and storm both chased Brooks for example .
He chose to remain loyal . Other players by and large choose not to .
You can colour the obvious with your own disappointment, or face the fact that the talents there , it’s about striking the right balance to formulate a great team .
That Souths team for example . 4 years ago tell me anyone who thought a spine of Walker Reynolds , cook and Johnston was going anywhere .
And all were known commodities, just not in NRL . 3 of the 4 are close to 30 .
My point is the talent was there the whole time , but something needed to click . Whether a rule change , a coach change , a marquee signing ,a shine of the footy gods , whatever .
There’s a reason people strive to climb Everest .
The hardest journeys are usually the most rewarding .
Our time is coming

Like the rest of us on here, I of course don't like it when the club signs certain players and more importantly when my thoughts are that we paid more than we should have (overs), and again hope Latrell, if signed, does not become yet another of them. Still, whilst I understand the frustrations, if they are going to be here and of first grade level, I would much rather have them playing there in whatever position necessary than continually moan about it, as that is going to do nobody any good at all.

@Strongee I honestly think you are over hyping Mbye a LOT, but again, just my opinion.
As for brooks, he is a legend, I’ll defend him as a player every day of the week.
Again you mention other players, the thing is, They got given a chance and gave their coach a headache because how good they performed, a headache any coach would love to have.
Mbye has been given the chance, and my opinion is that he has under performed.
It’s been a common attitude at the club... to let players play poorly while maintaining their spot, It needs to change.
I hope Mbye proves me wrong, I really do, I’m just saying what I see, and with Latrell potentially joining the tigers, the team could really gain some belief and momentum.
I just don’t want to see our club lose players because once again... we chose to keep the wrong players.

@diedpretty sorry mate I was talking about the fact he is signing with us for $100k more than the roosters offer. Surely that’s a guess.
