Lodge arrested

There is only so much a Club can do (babysit).

The thing is the NRL contradict themselves, we sack him for protecting the image of our Club and lose a potential talent…...only for another Club to sign him and watch him prosper somewhere else.
May I add that our squad has taken a hit as obviously we are low on quality players as we have Salary Cap issues and all players are signed for next year ( not that we can buy anyone)

WESTS TIGERS STATMENT

Wests Tigers have been advised this morning of an incident involving Matthew Lodge.

The Club is currently working with the NRL Integrity Unit to acquire details of the incident.

Lodge has been stood down until the Club and NRL Integrity Unit receive all the facts.

The Club will make no further comment at this time.

We also have to wait til the facts come out. Just because he's arrested doesn't mean he's guilty. He may be. There may be exaggerations.

Again the Roosters have the money to give troubled players the support they need. I somehow get the feeling we give these players a stern telling off and then leave them to their own devices.

I'd rather suspend his contract until everything is known and see how bad what he's actually done is. And rather than throw him to the scrap heap - rehabilitate him, like most clubs would do once they sign him.

Did the Sharks sack the Fifita brothers for what they did? Nope. Why would we sack Lodge for what's been a few minor incidents. Yes there's been more than one, but all have been quite minor in the big scheme of things.

This is his first serious charge (at least made public). Other players with similar charges haven't even always been sacked. Screw the moral high ground, other clubs don't take it because they want the best players. Why should we be one of the few clubs (like Canberra) that play by the rules.

Forward Matthew Lodge, 20, was arrested at a home in Marayong yesterday and taken to Blacktown police station where he was charged with six counts of assault as well as malicious damage and stalking and intimidation that police allege occured between August 8 and 20.

what an idiot, what else can we do except drop him? Counseling? seriously, if you need to be told to not hit women…...........you need to be removed from the gene pool. I mean really.

Innocent until proven guilty, BUT, if it's bashing women, he's got to go. If a player bashed your daughter, you'd be marching to a different tune…same if he bashed you in a pub.

I wonder if the Roosters will go after him and sort him out ??

He does have the potential to be the next Warrea- Hargreaves .

Roosters eventually sorted out Friend & Ferguson so other than Carney they have a good track record with the bad boys and Lodge may not have many more options left after latest incident!! Tigers may swap Lodge for Matagi.

They didn't do so well with Anthony Watts.

Worked wonders with Todd Carney too. Steve Noyce managed to sack him twice!

You can score Kenny-Dowall up on the debit side of the ledger, though.

Steady up some of you.

He has been charged with common assault. This most likely means he has not bashed a woman.

But, he could be facing a stint behind bars with his record if proven guilty.

WESTS TIGERS player Matthew Lodge has been stood down after being charged with allegedly terrorising his girlfriend over an almost two week period earlier this month.

Forward Matthew Lodge, 20, was arrested at a home in Marayong yesterday and taken to Blacktown police station where he was charged with six counts of assault as well as malicious damage and stalking and intimidation that police allege occured between August 8 and 20.

A provisional apprehended violence order was issued and Lodge was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Blacktown Local Court on August 28.

The Wests Tigers issued a statement this morning saying Lodge had been stood down while the club worked with the NRL’s Integrity Unit to determine what had happened.

“Wests Tigers have been advised this morning of (an) incident involving Matthew Lodge,” the statement read.

“The Club is currently working with the NRL Integrity Unit to acquire details of the incident.

Lodge has been stood down until the Club and NRL Integrity Unit receive all the facts.”

The Integrity Unit is aware of the charges brought against Lodge and a spokesman confirmed the league was working with the Tigers on the issue.

“The NRL Integrity Unit has been advised about the matters relating to Matthew Lodge. In all these matters, the club investigates and takes appropriate action in consultation with the Integrity Unit,” NRL spokesman Tom Gallimore told The Daily Telegraph.

Lodge was granted strict conditional bail.
Lodge, who has played 12 games for the joint venture club, is no stranger to controversy.

The former Junior Kangaroo was caught up in the onfield incident during a Penrith A-grade match that saw Sharks players Andrew and David Fifita handed six week bans and $30,0000 fines from the NRL for referee abuse.

It is unclear what his involvement was but Lodge, who was the assitant coach of St Patricks, was banned from attending games for the remainder of the season.

He also came under fire for having the word ‘c–-’ written on his wrist strapping while playing for the NSW under-20 side in a State of Origin clash with Queensland last year.

Lets wait for the outcome of the upcoming court case before throwing this guy under the bus.

Got no idea if he is innocent or guilty, but he wouldn't be the first bloke falsely accused of this sort of thing.

Either way, he never seems to be far from trouble.

So much talent.
So much for making a career in footy.
So much time on his hands now, to ponder / rue, what might have been.
