Lui

Young Lui has 10 times the footy skills that Moltzen has..the difference Moltzen is older and more expierenced .The coach has lost his Mojo he is doing to lui what he did to Lazurus .Please coach play the kid at 1/2 and get Benji out of there let him learn his game ..Marshall plays better wider anyway.Lui will have to work very hard at his game if he has the drive to I think he can succeed but this will depend on his DRIVE time will tell.

He created more at halfback last night than Moltzen did in all his games at halfback this year. Pretty good effort for a 20 year old with a handful of first grade games.

I was waiting for someone to say the obvious. I resisted the temptation.

It all had to do with space. Newcastle did not dominate our ruck as much as teams in previous weeks, so Lui and Benji had more to work with.

After several sets with space they started to find their rhythm. If we can keep up our play the ball speed our halves will always give it a good crack.

He is improving.

Still too slow with his decision making but that seems to be improving every game and he is throwing less hospital balls than last week and not getting caught with the ball as much.

Nobody had a good kicking game last night so no comment on that.

Defensively he was mixed. Made a couple of good one on one tackles but also was bettered by the ball runner many times in the game. In the dry I would guess that patterson throws a few speculative offloads when Lui could not wrap up the ball. But it was wet so we won't know.

He & Daniella should never be on the same side of the field defensively though

Would like to see Lui use more of his short kicking game. That one he laid on upon the carpet last night against the Knights was brilliant and resulted in a repeat set. Take the kicking duties away from Marshall, especially these brain fart decisions to put chips in on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th tackle respectively when his men outside of him have no idea what's going on….It cripples the side's momentum and takes the pressure off the oppsition. Sh#ts me to tears....

Great talent. Could develop into a real class player under the right guidance and mentoring. His passing game is fantastic and he reads the play well..I like him.

Did you actually watch the game this time before commenting?

Pretty happy with Lui last night, seems to be improving with every match. I know he didn't show it last night but I think his long kicking game is the best at the club, and this needs to be utilised more often.

I was waiting for you to comment mate. Nah havent seen the game yet. I have relied on radio comments, league unlimited comments, comments on here and stats for the game. They all suggest Lui did more in that one game than Moltz did all year. I will let you know if have a different view after watching the game this afternoon.

More to the point, do you disagree with that assessment? Or do you simply want to argue against the validity of me commenting?

Dont worry I am returning to Sydney next month. I wont make any further comments until then to make you happy.

lui had a blinder last night. he will ony gets better if benji stays out of his way and lets lui do what lui has to do. like Gobbs said hose little kicks by marshall on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th are killing our momentum - benji should not be allowed to kick those - instead give the ball out to lui - in a perfect world that is.

A couple of points raised on here are pretty off line. His defence was alright and I wouldn't really criticise it but it doesn't look solid. His kicking was game was ordinary.

And there is no way he created as much as Moltzen did last year. Moltzen is much quicker and looks a lot more dangerous.

I still think Lui may have a lot in the tank but time will tell.

Here is an interesting question if Lui has a great year, and Moltzen returns next year where do they play because I dont want moltzen at fullback again but I am not sure where he would go ?

I am part of the 'thumbs up' crew regarding Lui's performance last night. Plenty of room for improvement though. I was really pleased to see that he was enjoying himself out there - looked a lot less worried about things and showed a lot of enthusiasm and passion.

I dont want to be a party pooper, but if Lui had the exact same game and we lost would he be recieving such praise?

As a halfback in dour conditions i dont think his game was good at all. I think he showed glimpses of what he's capable of and with a decent coach he could be a sensation. But until Benji and Sheens actually let him play like a halfback, we wont see the best of him.

What are you talking about?
He took the line on,fed the ball to Marshall out wide & was very solid in defense.
He played a very good halfbacks role
What are you expecting him to do?
He needs work on his kicking game but besides that he did his job

Let me explain. I thought he played a good role too. But because Benji basically played halfback last night, i thought Lui was forced to take a back seat too much. Lui played well, but as far as a "great halfbacks" game goes theres plenty more for him to do and i believe he should be given more faith by both Benji and Sheens to take control. If people say he palyed the perfect role for us in the halves then ok, but he didnt play a great hal;fbacks game. A great halfbacks game is when the 7 dominates the playmaking. Im not having a go at the kid at all, im a big fan. Im more having a go at the way he isnt given more responsiblity.

get moltz to put on 9kg and play fullback! no doubt he could.

i think it would just be amazing if the tigers actually had 2 HALFBACKS in the top 25.. after so many years of not even having 1 halfback

also hes only 20 and has a handful of FG games under him.. each week i suspect we will notice an improvement in his domination

I can't take you seriously ST when you bagged Moltzen after not even having seen the game early in the season. IMO it seems as though you have an agenda or some sort of issue against Moltzen playing half, I'm not sure what it is. Even when Moltzen is injured and the thread is about Lui you still seem to be trying to talk him down.

Anyway, Lui had a good game last night, and I am quite happy with how he is progressing. Smeg summed it up best.

Lui has no problems taking on the line. This is because he is a ballrunning 5/8th. His kicking game looks like it needs plenty of work. Struggled to find grass which is an ongoing WT issue. Seems to be working hard on it though.
His defence is very shaky due to his smallish frame, but he does hang on like a little terrier to his credit.
To me, he seems like the perfect reserve half plug the club desperately needs, but IMO is not the solution to the ongoing WT half problems.

I dont have an agenda against Moltz. You can believe what you want buddy. I simply believe he has been nowhere near as good as the likes of Ron suggest. I also dont believe that there is a necessary correlation between our results with him in the 7 and his performances in those games.

As I recall I was right about that game - Moltz was extremely poor which even his supporters admitted.

You compared him to Jeff Robson without having even seen the game. If that is not an agenda then I don't know what is.

I agree with CT that Lui's kicking game looks like it needs work, but the Sharks trial this year showed me that he will our best option in this regard if he can get it right.

For his second game back from injury, he is progressing nicely. Was more dominant in the second half and our attack seemed to benefit. It will be hard for any half at our club as Benji and Robbie both want control at the key times.

That was his third game in FG this season, and I thought he went alright. I would like to see him get more involved, but I'm sure this will evolve naturally as his match fitness and combo with Robbie and Benji improves. He threw some nice passes tonight but needs to work on getting quick kicks away. For a 20 year old, he's got plenty of talent and will only get better IMO.

Yes. It is quite clear he is being eased in.
