Luke Brooks #167

He will benefit from playing with a good edge forward whether it’s Papali’i or Bateman. In both attack and defense class forwards will take a lot of weight off his shoulders. Also Stefano can run a line/hole. I think you’ll see the return of brooks as an actual playmaker.

Carrying a bad football team would be draining.
Good post Baggers.
Particularly with Stefano. He is one the missing links in this rebuild.
If brooks can have him at his disposal as either a crash ball or as someone hitting the smaller guys on the try line then this will be awesome.
Brooks really needs to own this side.
Be more proactive in selecting his options. Short passes off the hip, cutout passe, kick, crash balls, out the back, grubber in goal, kick to the corners, bombs, chip and chase, dummies, running himself, backing up and so on and so on.
The more one dimensional his play is the easier it is to defend against him.
Common Sheensy and Benji, get him firing.
Get him to play like Andrew Johns...keep the defense guessing and under pressure.

You’re worth what the market is willing to pay for you. If brooks went on the open market how many clubs would pay more then $750k for him[QUOTE="TIGERPOWER, post: 1705248, member:
That's what a managers job is - inflate the value of a player. Moses is not worth 1.4 either - if you believe those figures - but apparently we are willing to go that far to get him. Don't believe for a minute that Newcastle would have got Brooks for 750k a season and to keep Brooks at the club - Id say his manager would be after a lot more than that.

Well if he wasnt carrying the team so much, playing two positions, he may have achieved more success.
Also, Hastings only played 16 games FYI. Dont let that get in the road of your fantasy though...lol
Lol your fantasy guy is the one the club got rid of. Seems you’re just a brooks basher who can’t see past the commentary that tells you it’s all about the halfback.

This is a piss-take surely? lol what are they going to teach him in one off season that he hasn't been able to grasp in the past 9?

Rubbish again - most games Brooks played in he didn’t most of the kicking…

Not easy to kick from your 30m all game - ask Mitch pearce from origin
He did the long kicking...and poorly.
The tactical stuff was done by others.

LOL stay on the discussion. Twice you've diverted to name calling. That lets me know you dont have much ammo.

It's not so much teaching him Tuck it's about helping him gell with this new team. Coaching is all about bringing the team together and getting team harmony.
If he stay or if he goes is out of yours and my control. If he stays he must fit the team, be more proactive, that's what I'm saying.
I've seen him play well, it's in him. He has to display more variety and Sheens can help this by practicing set plays and general plays that require an all round game from Brooks.

In a team that fields the pack we do….
90% of the kicking is long….

Do you watch the games?
Yes and all I see is our halfback chasing his tail. He couldnt lead a horse to water. He couldnt inspire the team to lift when they needed to. He is supposed to be a running half. He doesnt run! A lot of his passes hit the deck. He misses a lot of tackles.
You are talking garbage.

If he listens to Api and doesnt try to overplay his hand, we may get some value out of him.

So thought Id give youse an update here with some hard numbers.
As you can see, I told you a month ago he was asking for 1.4 mil a year, proving I wasnt lying, and now the tigers have indeed offered him 1.4mil a year over 5 years. 7 mil deal, last year might be an option so in reality its 4 if thats so.
This puts us in pole position.

He is still looking to see what Dogs and Eels come back with, and this is what Ive been told:
Dogs have offered a 4 year +option. 1.1, 1.1, 1.2, 1.2 +1.2 mutual option.

Eels have offered 1.1 over 4 years with some incentives.

Im told hes trying to up the figure on the dogs deal an extra 100k on top per year and if he gets it, he signs with them, but if not, he will announce he signs with us.

Not sure if eels will budge or not.

He wants to win a premiership so is favouring dogs but their offer is lower.

Mitchell can [This word has been automatically removed] right off if he is happy to go to the dogs for $200k less for a couple of seasons, then half that for a few more.

You’d reckon it would be preferable to making a fool of yourself….
Not for everyone I guess
Straight away you two play the man rather than the ball.
Quite obviously you are well aware that your argument is severely lacking.

I've been watching a lot of Api since we've signed him and I'm getting excited. He's not the one directs the play so much, he's the link in getting it done with Nathan Clearey.
Brooks and Api hopefully will be working together in the offseason to guide the ship around.
I've been reading your posts and understand where your coming from regarding Brooks.
You right about we shouldn't be teaching him stuff that he should have already learnt.
My point is it's in his head, he's has had good days.
Brooks has had so many hookers and backs in his days at the tigers which makes it extremely hard to work with.
His forwards have never dominated, not that I can remember. Brooks does a lot of defending.
So I'm saying that he needs assisting more so than coaching. I think Sheens knows this and it's why he's gone in record saying he wants to work with him.
The success of this rebuild sits hugely on Sheens and Benji to extract Brooks' talent and gel the team.

Mate the problem is how many coaches now have said 'they can't wait to work with him' or 'they can't wait to get their hands on him' & he's only ever had that one good season under Cleary. The fact that we're paying him $1.1m a season & we're still asking all these questions about him tells you enough on it's own. I think it's best for all parties if Brooks is moved on at the end of next season for his sake & the clubs sake. But doesn't look like it's gonna happen....

I get you.
What if he comes out and nails it though?
