Luke Brooks - Mega Thread

He put a perfect cross kick by the left upright for his chasers - unfortunately only Kelma chased and challenged for the catch!

He knocked it through Turbo's hands and another try went begging.

Very demoralising for a half - like his back rowers consistently dropping short balls when put into gaps!

(Not Kelma - who took all his passes on Friday but maybe heading to marooner pastures from all reports.)
When it comes to those kicks for touch he can’t blame anyone but himself.

He is the biggest liability on this team. Daylight second.

He didn't make too many metres on the kicks for touch that's for sure, but at least he actually found touch which has been one of our many fails in the past. He has got a much better boot on him than he showed last night.

I think you have to put it down to lack of confidence and the fear of not finding touch. If he could do something about his confidence and come out of his shell he could be anything.

I think it's just a case of not having much in the line of class around him resulting in things just not coming off for so long that it just becomes demoralizing. In a top 6 side with a few things going his way he would be in the running for half back of the year on a regular basis.

There’s two types of humour on this forum. You got dad humour, and then you got the discord crew running like 30 year old wiggers. Those 2 types of humour don’t really appeal to me. Sorry if that makes me a stick in the mud, but you can’t help what hits your funny bone.
30 yo wigger? What's that?
You being racist to us immigrants brah?
You know what happens to racists?
We sort You out.

Hopefully Hastings will spark him into action
Think almost everyone can see he has the skills and ability but is just a little too methodical in his approach. I would personally like to see him more relaxed or flexible, as it feels like he's too self-aware.
So the problem seems to be more that the high standards he sets, and his competitiveness, is with himself (internally) rather than with his teammates and the opposition - he tends to go into his shell.

Can't blame or fault him for not developing into the elite halfback when there's been nothing around to help take him to that next level. A team that's struggled to get the basics right. Ivan's coaching and roster somewhat nurtured it but he's since regressed, so fingers crossed Hastings is the man that helps him finally back himself and gain that confidence.

For not winning consistently, yes that’s a team thing. But for kicking into touch (or missing), that’s only on him.
Gotta stop blaming others for his inadequacies. Even trying to apportion blame for this is preposterous.
And being low on confidence at this stage of the season, with his experience, in his position, is completely unacceptable.

Good post Lauren.
There are a couple of things that people need to understand.
1. The best ½ back in the world can't win a title unless he or she has the right troops around them.
Who is one one the best in modern era, Cooper Cronk maybe.
All the time Cooper was at the Storm he had the Bromwich boys, Slater, the GOAT etc etc. and a coach who never changed.
Moved to the rorters and they had an awesome team.
2. Brooks has had far too many coaches and too many different team sheets to work with over the years, the tigers have been far from settled. Too many disruptions.
If anything the guy needs a medal not a firing squad.
His on field performances have been on the slide since the Daly M ½ back of the year but he's not all to blame.
I hope he nails it this year with Hastings and Peach.

When Benji made dumb kicks like this the knives out. And rightly so. No one blamed rest of the team for him not finding touch.
I was an absolute Benji tragic, but even so I saw the deficiencies in his game and the effect that had on the team.
And re Tamou, he might be another useless plodder, but he isn’t looked to to kick or spearhead our creative attack. Brooks actually stymies our attack. Never have WT had a single player more detrimental to our play or our progress.

I feel Cronk was a great student of the game and hope Luke aspires to be more like that. Agree instability played a large role and his yearly form reflects this.
Same.
Thanks that's all I was trying to say, you're not going to learn advanced mathematics without mastering basic maths and having all fundamental needs. Its human nature and Brooks isn't an exception to this.

I think stifling the attack is harsh when we dont make the 8 purely on poor defense.
If we were better defenders we would have to defend less and probably score more points🤔
We've never had problems scoring enough points to make finals [have to check that] it's always poor defense and Brooks is effective in that area IMO.

Lol- I had no idea what is was either but if he’s being racist it’s towards white people taking on black (American) culture.
More likely laughing at how stupid it is.
Maybe try to stop being a tough guy and just go to the next comment… or just block him.

Not trying to be a hero.
Can't see why you feel the need to defend the wanker?
