The thing is there really isn’t anyone better to replace Brooks. We already have Hastings and he may be better but we don’t need to let Brooks go until we find out.

In my mind there is no coincidence that the best years Brooks has had were when we actually defended well. If the defence improves Brooks will do his job. Our problem isn’t that Brooks isn’t good enough, it’s our defence.

Well, decision made by the sounds of it. I support the team but I have such a low expectation of Brooks I will be very happy if he can get it together. If not , by at most halfway through the season, the knives will be out again for both Brooks and Maguire. I hope it can be turned around but please allow my doubts after 9 seasons and its everyone else's fault except Brooks. Brooks has to fire in the first half surely or that's it isn't it?

Decisions probably been made because Sheens has seen Hastings close up ......

Maybe? Either way I’m pleased the club has made a public statement. A stage whisper directed at Redcliffe.

I've just caught up on all the weekends posts and man this place is really depressing at times. I've never seen so much negativiy and agression towards others. There really is a massive issue here and it has nothing to do with the team we all support.

People see a possibility of a massive change in the roster, one many think is a vital.element in out consistent failure.... It's the shot down. By the club happy to continue on with. Mediocrity..... I'd say. People. Are frustrated

Very rarely has this club ever had a complete roster overhaul. The closest it’s come was when one was forced after we lost Woods, Tedesco and Moses. Apart from that, the club has never done a Bulldogs this year and released a dozen players and signed a dozen.

Which season have we had an acceptable defensive line

Even in 2005 ....we only got it right for 5 weeks ..ok the most important 5 weeks .....

If people think Luke Brooks is our biggest problem then I must be watching a different game to them. He is our best halfback by a country mile and until someone comes through the grades that plays consistently better, than he is our man.

Brooks and the Team's other issues aren't mutually exclusive.

End of the day the halfback is the most important player in the team. Without a good one you can't be successful.

Brooks might have been the best option at the Tigers but he's close to the worst option compared to every one else in the comp. Hence if the opportunity arose to get his inflated contract off the books and recruit then why not do it?

All I’m going to say on this is, that the brooks haters swore vehemently that no other NRL team would have him in their top grade , let alone pay him the money he’s on "……. Yet in the last 3-6 months we have had 4 teams openly hunt for him , and most willing to pay the necessary freight to get him .
So yea . Anyways back to the echo chamber . I wish you kept it in the brooks thread though , makes it hard to track real info .

You mean Brooks Manager Isaac Moses, who has been officially discredited from the NRL, has fabricated interest

I’m not going to argue sorry. Any point any actual real data is brought in , facts or figures or quotes , it’s counter acted with something else . It’s pointless even debating it .
And for the record the 4 teams are the knights , cowboys , bulldogs and raiders . To what degree , I have no idea , but the reason for it I can speculate , is because contrary to popular belief , there’s 8-10 actual first grade halves running around . The rest are elite reserve graders .
And because of this the premium you have to pay for someone like brooks , who is at best above average , at worst big average , is through the roof .
It’s supply and demand .

When I said massive change I was just referring to. Rooks and his position on the field.... It all starts with him

Last season we lost 13 players. And naturally 13 players were either signed or debuted.

Another thread where I just shake my head.

Notwithstanding whether you rate Brooks or not.. People whinging about the club making a firm and decisive statement in quick time. Not long ago people whinging the club does not say enough quick enough.

I'm glad I'm not running the club. You would never keep everyone happy.

Every position on the field is important to be successful. You are only as good as your weakest link. Who do you suggest we play as our half then and who is it that we are so called recruiting to better our side.

I'm sick & tired of all the Brookes "namby pambies & fanboys" making pathetic excuses & being his defenders of their mindless faith of his nuff nuff abilities & bog average game day performances.

I could say the same about your posts on the subject.

Some are wanting to pack his bags over Jackson Hastings though, which is hilarious. I mean, at least aim higher.

Hastings could be our best player next season. I'd move Brooks on for Hastings no question. It's not Brooks for Hastings though. It's Brooks for Madden at this point.

I agree. The problem is that he also isn't good enough to get us to the finals and he is a key player in a key position.

We need a much better team around Brooks and/or we need a better halfback. The reality is though we need more than just a much better halfback.

Isn’t the negativity and constant rumour mongering surrounding Brooks becoming boring?! He cops a constant bashing from many fans as well as journalists (probably because they know they get a rise out of the fans with their clickbait fictional scoops). And then there’s the commentators like Cronk and Johns etc who’s agenda is often to blow their own trumpet by putting others down.
One of Brooks biggest career problems over the last 8 years has been that he has been a loyal guy who has stuck by and played for the Wests Tigers instead of walking out years ago when he probably could have (like some of his mates did). Brooks chose to remain in a team where he often had little or no consistent support or quality spine players around him. When he did have support over those years he played well - it’s no coincidence that the best halves going around are playing in the best teams with quality players. One is strongly related to the other.
How many of the knockers on here have played half and understand the important aspects and processes that need to happen in your team in both A and D before you can even begin to play an effective halfback role. It is not easy when your team is constantly on the back foot or being steamrolled and has little go forward. Some of the “better” halfbacks struggle when their team is on the back foot. DCE , Pearce, Moses, even Reynolds. Hughes is a manufactured half and doesn’t play at all like a standard half under Bellamy.
Before the haters jump in - let me say that I am not a “fanboy” of Brooks as i believe his game has degenerated this season in particular. What i will say is that I’m not surprised, as the guy must have very thick skin. He has copped enough public abuse and rubbish said about him to be an absolute basket case - I personally feel sorry for the guy and as much as he may not have single handedly won games for us like some superstar, he also doesn’t deserve so much disrespect and BS!
P. S. sorry for the long post but that’s all i have to say on this matter.

The fact is, Hastings will have the mentality to win which will see him pair up with Brooks as the organiser between them both.

Doueihi will be out at the start of the season, but if the combo goes good between Brooks / Hastings, then more or less he will move to centre.
