Pace and skill can be hard to stop no matter the size. If you're comparing wingers with power then compare Luke to Cobbo, Best etc
And walsh was about the same age even he debuted as Luke is now. The fact is Luke shouldn't be playing now, Walsh was a standout at the same age.
Incorrect.
Walsh nearly 2 full years older than Luke when they each made their respective debuts. Luke at just past his 18th birthday and Walsh just prior to his 20th.
And what do you mean I should compare Luke to someone else? You made the comparison to Walsh.
Of course Luke shouldn't be playing now.
The fact that he is says two things:
- that our squad still (obviously) doesn't have the depth to keep our best kids out of first grade until they are ready.
- and, that he is an incredible talent to be able to play in first grade at 18 and do a serviceable job.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I know you know footy. You have some wonderful insights and you're all over the pathways.
But you have one of the most narrow-minded and rigid ideas about positional play and you're particularly obsessed with stature or physical traits above all else.
This sport has as many formulas to success as Bellamy has semi-finals appearances.
Tall wingers, short wingers, powerful wingers, slender/nippy wingers, they all have a place in first grade depending on how they're used, what the game plan is, the type of on-field strengths they show, how they work with their inside man, how safe they are under the high ball, etc, etc, etc.
And the same applies to every position on the field.
