Luke Lewis on the market?
\
\
A few rival clubs are mentioning the name of Cronulla Sharks veteran Luke Lewis ? and apparently he is available if the price is right.

The arrival of young gun Jack Bird from the Dragons and the return of Jayson Bukuya from the Warriors has seen the Sharks? back-row strength swell.

Out wide, by contrast, the Sharks are still short of some genuine strike power and the club could use Lewis? money to boost this critical area.

Lewis has been a great player for many years but at 31, is clearly in the tail-end of his career

I think Luke Lewis almost signed with us once before …....... would welcome him with open arms.

That was 4 years ago…too old now!

Luke Lewis only turned 31 a few months ago and very recently played State of Origin. If that is the criteria for too old Wests Tigers may as well sack Farah who is the same age, played State of Origin this year and has been playing in great form. Also on the matter of age Wests Tigers' Pat Richards is almost 33 and has been one of the club's top point scorers.

No it wasn't,it was 2 years ago, when he signed with cronulla for 2013,he has 2 years to run on his 4 year contract, which from memory was around $380/ $400k for 3 years and $750k in the final year.
The final year was the sealer for him to join the sharks,he agreed to a 4 year $380k at the weststigers, but cronulla upped the ante at the time Lewis told them he was joining us.
The sharks will need to foot a fair chunk of that to get him out the door, could be a good opportunity to get a bit of Gibbs,Fifita and Heighno's money back and an origin backrower at a cut price rate.
Lewis has played 28 games in 2 years at the sharks, when you consider he was unavailable during 2 origin campaigns and the freak injury his stats are not that bad.

Way past his prime, so pass for mine. At this stage of their careers and dollar wise, I would have preferred we had kept (did not have to offload?) Bodene.

Why not put him back in the centres and try and prolong his career if the WT's were to sign him ??

He is still pretty quick

Okay…time flys....I'd take him for next 2 years as long as it doesn't cost us more than $150k in 2015 and $200k in 2016 ....sharkies can foot the rest.

In two minds about this. On the one hand, I think Lewis would be a great addition to our pack - a current Origin rep, still pretty quick and has loads of experience that would benefit our young pack. Also, if the Sharks were footing half the bill it would be a bonus. On the other hand, he has always been rather injury prone and, let's face it, at his age this ain't gonna improve. So sign him or not, I'll be happy - how's that for fence sitting

Pass on him .the games getting faster and younger .we made a huge offer to him and he knocked us back .no more players past their use by date please

You wouldn't take him if the Sharks were paying a good chunk of his salary 1/4 chicken?

Is that right CB?

Oh lookie….the first post for 2015 on WTF!

Woo hoo

LOL

Not really Ink, I was lambasting those who would pass on a player who has played Origin in 2014, can play every position outside prop and halfback either competently or very well, Sharks would likely have to pay part of his contract and his first choice position is somewhere we are sorely lacking experience and depth.

Why on Earth wouldn't you sign him? He's getting on but he is still playing well. I'd give him a two year contract with an option for a third in our favour.

CB,I have to agree,Lewis still has a lot to offer and his experience in a number of positions can only benefit us..I can see him being a great backrow prospect as well as a centre just outside Moses or inside Simona,Lawrence..

Only hope he wants to come and we can afford him for a year or two…. 😛ray:

So this is all based on a Lurker article on sportal. Mkay

Have the Sharks officially released Luke?
