"Madge has changed nothing": Tamou

I thought we did ok . We were playing a potentially top 4 side at close to full strength, while we were missing a few of our best. We dominated most of the first half and could easily have lead at halftime. Second half of trials is always a bit of a mess with lots of fringe players coming on and off.

I’m not going full chicken little just yet.
Good stuff. Also no injuries which is a bonus.

No way Twal is even named as a co captain he's not a starter any given week. It will be Brooks probably may have been Doueihi had he not been injured but cant see anything other than that. It think it was mentioned last night during the coverage that Tamou wont be captain due to limited minutes i think ??
Agree with you buddy, Tamou not being Captain.
I'm not a fan leading from the sidelines.
Having said that he played alright in the trial.
I'm looking forward to Jackson playing, I think he could be a smokey for C.

Tamou went on the defensive a bit when asked about Madge. In the back of his mind I believe he was thinking about the pressure on madge getting the sack.

It's interesting I'm thinking it will be Brooks and Ads as co captains
Yep that could happen too. AD has been touted all preseason as C hasn't he.
I'm wondering in this touchy feely world of today if players are asked who they prefer. I'm sure senior players would be consulted.
What about Noffa?
Not a fan but one of our players dropped a remark like 'he's our captain' during preseason training.

It is what it is

Exactly

I think the reporters question might have been referring to Madge’s intensity and personality rather than team tactics. It seemed as though Tamou was trying to deflect pressure away from Madge and all the conjecture around his man management ability.

It’s interesting that a captain hasn’t been confirmed. It probably means there’s doubts about whether Tamou can make the top 17 every week. If I were coach I wouldn’t have him in my starting 17 barring injuries and form of the other props.

Manly played well and put in and we matched them 1st half. A couple of dissallawed tries didn't help. Didn't feel like a 4-28 loss blowout.

Probably only thing that disappointed me was nothing new tactically, maybe that's what Tamou meant when he said nothing changed, they just needed to put in.......which along with him is cringe worthy.

Bit disappointed really, I know it was a trial and the first trial at that, but it was an ideal chance to show what they have been working on in the off season and how they are going to play. More of the same, 5 hit ups for a kick and no obvious defensive pattern, nofo letting in tries, Tamou turning his back when meeting the defensive line.
Liked Peachey, Junior has worked on his game in the off season and should give the starting centre a run for their money, Kelma showed why Manly went hard for him.

Totally agree Tbones - That is why there is that feeling of despair. If there a difference in both defense and attack in terms of positivity, then most would be okay however the attack was pedestrian and defense was backwards and embarrassing.
They looked unfit and lacked anything that could give you hope. I would rather have a pedestrian attack (to some degree) but what i really want is a fast aggressive defensive structure, that gives limited time and everyone works for each other. To me it was just more of the same crap that has been dissed out over the past years. Is it the coaching or the players??? Maybe bit of both but just want to see desire.
I want to see quick movement off the line instead of waiting and running backwards to make a tackle. I want to see a game plan that actually targets a teams weakness and follows through. I want to see our edge runners run a decent line like Gareth Ellis did back in day.....when you train every day and this is your job surely this is not too much to ask as Rugby League is a pretty simple game to play.

IMO..Didn't think we did too bad in the trial. No title this year obviously but no wrist slitting either. Thought the young hooker and Dillon were very promising.. centre and front row seem an issue.. tamou defence is ok but offers zero in attack.. mickeali runs hard but is found wanting in defence especially laterally.. no talau, kepoa and douhi leaves that competitiveness for the centre position a little short.. positively the club looks like they're developing some good young middle forwards and outside backs so if we retain the good ones and a bit of luck 23 and 24 doesn't look too bad.. might be another rollercoaster 22 unfortunately..

Agree mate apparently Tamou hasn't had much of a preseason. Spurs in ankle had surgery

Yeah.. he'll start the year but hopefully will be gradually faded out during the season to give those promising 19-21yr Olds a game or two.. hasn't been a lot of footy played in the last couple of years they just need some game time.. interesting to see how they go in reserve grade..
