The most pain less option is to exercise the mechanism the club apparently has written into Maguire's contract extension (as reported by Chammas). If true, the WTs were aware of concerns about Maguire's relationships with players since April 21. These concerns were serious enough to have that mechanism included (and thankfully it was written into his extension). Perhaps our Chairman and CEO are on top of this matter? It certainly seems that way.

If only they put clauses into the contracts of former high paid recruits that said they had to contribute something (anything) to the club. They’re on top of nothing but constant failure.

How can you write that? The Club acted and inserted this clause to protect it from a huge payout. It appears a very sensible course of action.

Coach wasn’t the problem before and while it may seem that way to you, its not now. No coach has been given an NRL quality roster by the WT administration since 2011-12.

This dates back to Apr 21. Obviously the Club considered what they knew to be serious enough to include a clause in his contract extension. Smoke, fire, form.

Players get their nose out of joint when you tell them they are not good enough. Wow big surprise. I thought Madge came here to fix the place.

This is not about the players. The Club made the decision to include this mechanism in the contract extension as reported by Chammas.

What mechanisms? Did it say, we expect you to win with a bottom 4 roster or we can sack you and replace you with another poor sucker.

It's the mechanism to end his contract with minor pain in terms of payout as reported by Chammas.

Copy and paste it into our playing contracts and we’ve actually solved a problem.

Cancel culture too. What a surprise

No mate, the article to which I referred is posted on this Forum by a moderator in a separate thread. I am just a supporter like you. It is too heated at present and it is easy to lose sight of the fact we are all WTs supporters.

Sorry mate, I agree. This joint is pretty toxic.

I feel strongly that this is a time for major major change so I won’t hold back on my opinion

I respect we each have different opinions. I just hope it works out for WTs.

If Pascoe delivers success to Wests Tigers I will pay for a decent hair cut

Tigers boss defends decision to re-sign Maguire as coach waits on review
By Adrian Proszenko
September 8, 2021 — 7.40pm

Wests Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis has defended the board’s decision to extend Michael Maguire’s contract despite speculation he won’t see it out, claiming the move was essential in providing “stability” to the joint-venture outfit.

Maguire has two years still to run on a contract that was extended last December which, if he sees it out, would make him the second longest-serving coach in Tigers history behind Tim Sheens. There has been an expectation that the internal review the club is conducting will result in his sacking and that may yet be the case. However, sources with knowledge of the situation are adamant that outcome is far from a fait accompli.

The lack of a standout replacement, the costs associated with finding one during a difficult economic situation and the need to start a rebuild afresh are heavily weighing on the club’s decision makers.

Maguire has made his pitch to the board, Sheens is assisting the process in his new role as head of football from England and a final decision is expected next week.

The decision to re-sign Maguire has come under scrutiny after a 13th-placed finish, but Hagipantelis maintains the right decision was made.

“It was absolutely appropriate at the time to secure his services and ensure stability within the organisation, which is an important element in recruitment and retention,” Hagipantelis said. “I don’t think the board has any regrets.”

Tigers captain James Tamou and fellow forward Luciano Leilua have come out strongly in support of Maguire, with the input of senior players likely to play a role in a decision on the coach’s future.

Hagipantelis defended the decision not to outsource the review to an independent body.

“I think there is sufficient expertise and experience within the organisation to be able to identify the areas of concern, what needs to be addressed,” he said.

“It’s a review done by the board. [General manager of football Adam] Hartigan and [chief executive Justin] Pascoe are involved in collating the information and speaking to key personnel and then a report is prepared, which goes to a football committee and then in turn the full board.

“We have people like Tim Sheens available to us, the man has coached over 700 games of first grade, so there aren’t too many more capable than him in identifying what needs to be done within an NRL club. He’s done it many times.”

The Tigers have more than $1 million to spend on players for 2022, although no one is likely to commit until there is clarity over the coach.

“I understand the sentiment, but that’s not what is driving us,” Hagipantelis said.

“It is a relevant factor and something that can be addressed once the review has been completed.

“I’ll be hopeful that everything will be completed by the end of next week, close the book on 2021 and look forward to 2022.”

I’m hearing theres a bigger issue at the Tigers which will spill out. The group is split. It has been reported before but there’s a pro Madge camp, detractors and in between. I trust who told me this but again it may not be right and unfair on some players so take it with a grain of salt.

Pro Madge Luciano, Blore, Utoikamanu, Tamou, Laurie, Maumalo, Mikalele, Douihei, Simpkin, Simpkins. There are detractors in Brooks, Nofa, Mbye, Liddle.

The club has to make a decision to move players on, the coach or both. The issues are known and no one will sign at the Tigers. The other issue is the detractors have a word straight to the top causing distrust in the team and coaching staff.

I sense Sheens will remember this happening to him in a past life. I wouldn’t be so certain Madge is sacked.

Management are aware the team is not good enough even playing at full potential but unless they sort it out nothing will happen. If I was a betting man you may see a player clean out and it may or may not include the coach.

Move the detractors on, simples. Brooks and Nofa are a major reason we are not in the finals.

@GNR4LIFE

Made the point, lucky for us... he isn't.
Allegedly.

Daresay he met the coach before signing and made the decision knowing what he was walking into.

However, all that aren't willing to work towards the common goal should be moved on, no matter their profile or ability.

It's been clear from the start, things are being put in place to make the team more successful and successful for years to come.

That's why Mbye was released early.
That's why hopefully we're looking at doing the same with the ones causing unrest for the club and the team.

It's chess not checkers.

We moved Matterson on and it didn’t break the cycle. Moved on Aloiai and it didn’t break the cycle. So moving on more detractors will? Who will the detractors be next season if Madge is here?

If it means we get rid of this toxic culture once and for all, yes it is absolutely worth it. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before you can progress. We should be leaders but we are not because of this continuing crap culture perpetuated by some past and current players. They need to grow up and play for the jersey, the club and the fans.

It was put out there that one of the players on the list that someone made of supposed pro Madger’s was actually against him. Stef was on the pro list. Considering the two of the 3 against him are the two most hated on the forum and would love to use that as an excuse to get rid of them, I asked what if Stef was the other player who was really not in Madge’s camp. Creates a pretty interesting conflict of interest among people who dislike Noffa and Brooks and want them gone.

I haven’t seen any improvement in culture with Madge though. In fact I think he’s made it worse. And moving on the players that don’t buy into Madge is an issue in itself because he can’t attract players.

If the board decide to keep him in charge we are absolutely stuffed

Management are aware the team is not good enough even playing at full potential but unless they sort it out nothing will happen. If I was a betting man you may see a player clean out and it may or may not include the coach.

Move the detractors on, simples. Brooks and Nofa are a major reason we are not in the finals.

And what if Stef is a detractor?

Move him on as well. The cycle has to be broken otherwise we are just on permanent repeat and we’ll never be anything other than also rans.

Is getting the spoon for the next two seasons worth it?

If it means we get rid of this toxic culture once and for all, yes it is absolutely worth it. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before you can progress. We should be leaders but we are not because of this continuing crap culture perpetuated by some past and current players. They need to grow up and play for the jersey, the club and the fans.

Let’s say there is 2 or 3 players who are against him. We let them go and keep the coach? Ignoring the fact this has happened more than once before. Whose the common denominator here?

The players who are perpetuating the rotten culture of the club.

So the coach is absolved?

The coach is not the problem. Certain players are and some factions within the club that are enabling those players.
