Madge Maguire - Mega Thread

Mate who could have taken that roster anywhere , I think Madge deserves to finish the job he started and then we can judge the bloke fairly .

So it looks like to me Ciraldo doesn’t really want the job… can’t blame him really..

What’s the big deal with this guy anyway?
He’s assistant coach ….. saw nothing special when he was on short firsts team duties while back.
We do get worked up about nothing.

Madge has produced nothing in 3 years, actually taken the team backwards, and plenty want him here next year

I do get why some people want to keep him, they’re sick of the rebuilding phase we seem to be in continually. But I agree with you we’ve actually gone backwards I think the way the game has changed so rapidly so quickly is beyond him. I honestly don’t know who the answer is but I’m going to go out on a limb and say if we keep Madge we will go backwards even more. Making a bad move is made worse by keeping on making them. The problem is I don’t trust Pascoe or the board to make the right calls here my guess is they will panic like they always do.

Yea u would think if Rooters want Sims they will get him , no way they would say a current state of origin player is too old or past his best .we can hope

So u disregard our cap and juniors position?

But let me guess the above would be a good reason to keep hartigan around but not madgen

It can't JUST be Madge going. I want him to go but sacking just him doesn't fix the bigger issues. Majority of the support staff and Pascoe need to go out with him

I fully agree, and some players as well, show everyone this time it is for real, not just a half baked review, a real line in the sand moment, we can't mess this up with just getting rid of the assistant coaches

It’s the roster. Why? Is the right question. Lack of investment historically, pathways a mess, poorly managed club, documentaries, media leaking, salary cap mess. We are a basket case.

Most can see the coach can’t do much about it. Changing the coach to send a message about lack of progress is not smart then you sack the next coach next year as they will not improve much.

Madge won’t get this team in the finals next year and I can see that but I wouldn’t sack him. Two main reasons 1. You don’t pay huge money to pay out one coach and hire another to coach a non competitive team. 2. You will disenfranchise more players that like the coach ogle which most are the younger players you want to retain.

I can not even fathom how the board could even contemplate keeping Maguire next season ,there was no need for a review in this matter the undeniable truth of failure is there for all to see over a proven 3 season period ending with a total capitulation of so called coach loving players and and there pride in the jersey .

Sometimes I feel like WT are like lining up a V8 supercar on the grid of a formula one race and then wanting to sack the mechanic coz the V8 wasn’t quick enough

Too true. A new coach is just another throw at the stumps without anyone backing up.

Who are these "young players" kicking the doors down into first grade?

Hoffman? Cini? Madden?

God help us.

That’s a good line. I’ll use that this week with my staff who screw up.

That’s exactly what he did against the dogs. The young man layers weren’t up to it and we were belted.

I can fathom of a few reasons

1)We don’t have or want to pay $800k to pay Madge out.
2)All other potential targets weren’t available to replace him
3)Player majority (younger ones with potential including Steff) actually want Madge as coach.
4)Madge has compromising photos of the board members

play them and improve them throughout the whole year not just the last game. send the bad apples to reserve grade. who cares if we lose as long as we are heading in the right direction.

Ummmm, I care if we lose. The objective is to try to win every game and be a chance for September footy.. We are already the youngest squad in the NRL, its not as if we have to transition for generational change.

The "young guys" in reggies are just not good enough.

n the past 20 years every coach other than Matt Elliot and Nathan Brown has made the finals by their 3rd year.

Brad Arthur took 4 seasons to get Eels to the finals.

I know that. Ok a stats a stat but i ruled out 2016 for Parramatta due to the cap fine. They won enough games to make the 8 before they were deducted 12 points from the season total.
But if you want to include Brad Arthur making the finals in 2017 was even more impressive given the amount of turn over of the eels squad from 2016-2017.

Actually in including Brad you’ve highlighted not just one case but two cases where coaches have made the finals in their fourth year.
Also both made the top 4.

Fingers crossed for Madge but if we are being conservative anything less than 8th spot is a failure if he is retained for next year.
