We have a Leadership consultant….

Actually at least two: Tamou and Packer, both specialists of efficient running, while others:thinking_face: take 150m, they teach how to run 35 m per game, invaluable! :no_mouth:

Perfecto...We have a much better squad now that IBWT
has pointed that out, than we realised :+1: :joy: :joy:
Edit : When I said perfecto I meant your post was a good one + it gave me a good laugh.

We should be awarding him a medal of honour and courage for taking on the challenge, not hang the guy.

Each to their own opinion, but I could not disagree more strongly with this point, he has had more than enough time to at least get the team to show some form of improvement, he has failed.
Keeping on blaming Cleary 3 seasons later is a cop out, and Madge and his excuses are a cop out as well.
You want to give him a medal, I want to give a one way ticket out of here, that is the beauty of opinions

I'm not usually in the fence but I am in this one.

I can see both sides of the argument.

**Maguire has lost the dressing room** but should we sack the coach or sack the senior playing roster who are sooking.

Guys like Moses, Brooks, Nofo and others have been here longer than the coach so I'd allot a little more blame to them before sacking the coach.

But a new coach may want to feature those players in his rebuild.

It's a messy situation and all parties are to blame.

Who has said he has lost the dressing room? A couple of people on here.

Last week, they were saying Kevin Walters had lost the dressing room?

Haven't heard any players mention anything? No doubt, we are in a hole, but we are not a top 6 side yet? I don't think anyone thought we would compete in the last 4 games?

I believe we will get there and it is certainly taking longer than we all want, but imo, the club has to let him finish his rebuild. He has the experience we need, remembering we have been trying to do it for 10 years, it is not as easy as we all thought?

I'm saying it. He has lost the dressing room.

Players are not responding.

I'm no fan boy of the senior playing group. Most of them are imposters but right or wrong the coach has lost them.

Plain to see.

Sorry, but you’re guessing. But there are some players not playing to potential for sure.

What information do you have to support your claim that he is guessing?

None, but that’s the point, I know you have mentioned it, but no one else has, in fact they rallied in the second half of the Souths game, hardly an indication he has lost the shed. There is no proof of your assertions what so ever.

Take your blinkers off and you may see things, instead of being one eyed and negative.

We scored points in the second half because south’s clocked off. It is very obvious he’s lost the playing group.

How do you know this, you blokes just make things up to suit your story. If the team didn’t want to play, we wouldn’t have scored any points.

Not at all, I’m looking at it rationally. I actually think he lost he playing group midway through last season, and I think it’s gotten worse since then.

It’s a toxic environment with no harmony at all. Your issue is you have wanted him to succeed so badly from the beginning you simply cannot deal with the fact that he’s failed.

It’s the players that have failed, casting aspersions doesn’t make it true.

Who has said beside some of you, that Madge has lost the sheds? Not even the journo’s sprout that rubbish.

This was literally in tonight’s article by Chammas

“The news comes as multiple sources at the club told the Herald there was growing discontent among the players about Maguire, which has been exacerbated by the coach’s post-match comments following the loss to South Sydney.“

“Growing discontent” and “multiple sources” I wonder who they are? You are drawing a long bow to say “he’s lost the shed”, I said earlier, they said about Kevin Walters last week.

You talk about me wearing blinkers, you're sitting there with your eyes closed and fingers in your ears.

Well, attacking me, doesn't make you right, you have nothing to back up your claim, except a jouno saying there is "growing discontent", Made had just said he was wanting men in his team, that would certainly upset some of the non performers.
Nofo being a tool and throwing team mates under the bus doesn't help either.

BTW, Chammas co-authored the article, I understand he has a known dislike for Madge.

The comment Maguire made is not appropriate in the workplace.

I disagree. You've never been inside a dressing shed, have you?

The dressing shed is a workplace.

You have a penchant for avoiding answer simple questions haven't you?

The comment was made publicly not the dressing shed. That was well known except for you apparently.

Excusing it as some kind of dressing room banter is disgraceful.

If you haven't noticed, workplaces have changed over the last 30 to 40 years.

I'm sure it wasn't banter. I reckon he said worse in the shed?

You made mention the comment was made in the workplace, not me.

"**The dressing shed is a workplace**. That comment was made publicly."

"**The comment Maguire made is not appropriate in the workplace**."

TBH, I don't have a problem with what he said, it was true, though some players will get there nose out of joint by it?

You want your players working as a team with you. Making a comment like that does nothing for team building and getting the best from players.

But we aren't getting the best from the players, that is the point.

That is on Maguire.

So when do the players get held to account? All our troubles seem to always only be Madges.

It's about time the players were held accountable

They need to grow into men first. We all wondered why Pascoe was so vague about Sheens’ role, particularly with the remark about “the players can consult with him”..”and Madge can talk to him too if he wants”
Floater is a new name for a councillor, a sports psychologist ?
Tim will get to the route of Nofa’s underlying issues and treat them. I hope he can also relieve the board from any responsibilities they have with the footy department. ?

Yea if they were men they'd play like men

But they are sooks just waiting for the club to come to their rescue and sack the coach

They need to toughen up

Ppl saying even though Bellamy wouldn't come that they would love him as our coach

All I can say to that is you haven't seen nothing yet if you think Bellamy could save us

He would have these weak hearted peanuts begging for mercy and wishing they'd had Madge back within a week

When the players sack the coach once, its a rarity. Twice, its the beginning of a habit. Thrice, its a problem with the Board and club culture. But to consider it a regularly cultivated procedure? really?
If you think a coach is good enough to recruit, then give him a 5 year contract to prove you are right. Work with him to that end and appraise his performance regularly. Giving a coach 2 years and undermining his relationship with the players is setting him up for failure.
when an organisation is rolling over staff regularly then point your finger at the top.

So true

It's sad for the fans bit for a coach to fix this place he needs minimum 4 to 5yrs

Yea Madge has signed most of this mob but he is just buying time til the youngsters develop and stars see this place attractive

He loves this place and is giving it his all

If has lost some players than piss them off ASAP

We don't want them

We want players with Madges passion for the club

TPJ wanted big $$$

Well stuff him too

You and all the other Madge fans are banking on he knows what he is doing, yes he won the premiership in 2014, but things change, and he hasn't.
2015 -7th
2016 - 12th
2017 - 12th sacked
His form and player relationship deteriorated rapidly after the 2014 win, and it is happening here right now, only we didn't get any success along the way.
If the team showed some improvement, or he attracted some quality players, then I might buy in, he has offered nothing to buy in to.
His record since 2015 is quite horrific, coaches with a far better record than his have been sacked in that time frame, and he should be no exception.
Paul Green won in 2015, lost the group and failed to evolve with the game, got sacked, Flanagan won in 2016 and hardly any on here rate him, putting faith in Madge 2014 is a fools gold

Not a fully fledged Madge fan yet 851 and normally agree with your posts on this forum

But our club has already proven sacking coaches and siding with heartless NRL stars doesn't work

Re builds take years and the only bad thing at this club at the moment is our heartless NRL squad

The lower graded were built by Madge and are doing well But no one is singing his praises for that

I just think he deserves a chance to prove himself and that means sitting out at least for years til his young charges come through

Ppl on here name coaches that we should target but like NRL super stars they probably wouldn't come near the place

The coach cares

The players don't

The young ones love him

Give him a chance

It can't be that hard to grow a set of balls and do your best as a professional sportsman

They have shown they can do it in patches

They are young and in the peak of their lives but acting like 5yo cowards

If they just grew up and realised what could be achieved with some heart and passion the club would be in much better shape

And those who don't like Madge can move onto another club

Obviously they would find it hard to pick a new club cos most coaches take a dislike to poor attitudes so if they think they will find another club where they can get away with tantrums they are kidding himself

As for Madges coaching record well they all have ups and downs depending on roster

If you have a look around you will see that

I agree he has done pretty good with the young signings, but we need some quality, I respect your opinion though.
It is not so much with the amount of coaches we have had, it is hiring the wrong ones.
JT was a disaster waiting to happen, didn't disappoint though, crashed spectacularly, Cleary was a good signing, but his son wouldn't come here.
Madge maybe looked good at the time it is just we get the wrong ones.

Ok if Maguire is gone tomorrow as it's a results driven business can someone advise as to how long the next Coach gets to produce results...?

No-one is expecting a premiership, but year on year improvement is required. Each year we've gotten progressively worse.

And that right there is why he should be gone

Year on year improvement is not realistic. They need to be good enough to get into the finals and make the finals consistently.

How about year on year improvement **until** they are good enough to get into the finals etc.

The comment Maguire made is not appropriate in the workplace.

I disagree. You've never been inside a dressing shed, have you?

The dressing shed is a workplace. That comment was made publicly.

Strange type of workplace, with cameras and media hanging around. Anyone film you at your workplace?

Last time Madge had a go at the players, in the "privacy" of the dressing shed workplace, they filmed it and put it on TV. Then talked about it for days and days.

Also, I think for Madge it's just an alternate strategy. He has resisted criticising the players all year. They've been rubbish all year, they deserve criticism. He didn't name anyone specifically.

They are professional footballers. If they cannot handle internal and external criticism then they are in the wrong business. NRL is not a standard workplace - most workplaces don't get filmed, don't ask employees to make public comments on a weekly basis. Most employees don't have their personal effects in the media. Most employees don't have external parties critiquing their performances.

So if the coach calls the team out, justifiably, and that's something you can't handle, then you need to reconsider a career as a professional footballer. Because the coach is going to be softer on you, more understanding, more collaborative and constructive than any other external party, of which there are very many.

Maguire needs to be a lot more careful about what he says and where he says it.

Why Paws ? because you want him gone to suit your personal agenda...funny how he can say nice things about his squad when they are learning and not doing well but cant critique them when they fail him ...

WT is a professional organisation. Our image impacts all areas of the business. It's not overly difficult to do.

Nothing he said (about needing men) was unprofessional or impacted our business - we're already in the poo thanks to our weak willed playing roster.
You're the only one who thinks so.

Not the only one, I agree with Paws. Wasn’t necessary and just gave the media more fodder.

Sorry Avo, but it's obvious that you're about as keen on Maguire as I am on Brooks.
To be honest I doubt if the media needed more fodder, in fact I've heard little in regards to these few words amongst all the recent baggings we have copped.
In regards to being necessary?
Maguire has mollycoddled the under performers giving them plenty of chances to dig in for way too long.
It was time for a few home truths.

It’s pretty obvious that Madge can’t recruit star talent. Hartigan can recruit emerging talent that is looking for a top 30 contract but if the player is an established top tier first grader they want to win a premiership and play in a strong team/system. That’s on Madge

So why did JAC go to the dogs?
Why did Reynolds go to the Bronc's?
Do you think TPJ wouldn't have come here (apparently we were first choice) if we had given him the money he wanted?

I think we should blame KFC , JFP or MBF

BTW, Chammas co-authored the article, I understand he has a known dislike for Madge.

The comment Maguire made is not appropriate in the workplace.

I disagree. You've never been inside a dressing shed, have you?

The dressing shed is a workplace.

Oh absolutely, i'm not a fan of his at all. Was merely saying that it wasn't necessary to do it in public. But each to their own.

lol..I remember Bellyache say very similar about the Storms players in public after they lost 1 game..something along the lines of being a Storms player and if their not he'll go out and find them..

but he's a genius..

You forgot about Potter 851...the boys club rotten culture got rid of him....the same culture Madge is getting rid of...and you can see how the rotten culture is trying to fight him...
sidenote...if they gave Potter an even chance we would have been in a better position now than then,he is a reasonable person with footy smarts, but dare I say it WTs ruined his career...

You raised some very good points there @TrueTiger

I would imagine most clubs would only have to blend in 2 or 3 players max per year to their playing squad.

Over the last couple of years we have lost nearly a whole team of experienced players that knew and appreciated Wests Tigers and our system.

We've replaced our whole squad with blokes that dont know Wests Tigers, Madge or each other.
Plus, even though the players we purchased were the best available going at the time without paying overs, they weren't necessarily the top quality we needed.

We will get higher quality players over the next couple of years though.

My cash is on Nofoaluma as the main problem /instigating player unrest and piss poor attitudes .

It's Benji! Just get rid of him and watch all this talk of player rest go away. Our defense will improve as well.
Oh crap i just saw the calendar it's 2021 not 2020.

It wouldn’t be Tamou ..long time pro
No on Brooks ..not his go .
Not Mbye …not in his nature ..

Eyes ? on Nofo ?

Unless Robbie is back stabbing ?

I doubt that Robbie would be back stabbing Madge.
They'd be mates wouldn't they? :joy:
After All 1...Madge let him fly to England mid-week to watch a soccer match.
2...Madge played him when he had a broken bone in his leg in that now infamous game against Cronulla at Leichhardt Oval.

If Madge gets some time and these young kids hang around with all the dead wood gone we might all be praising him for a job well done

Get what you're saying Paws and as a fan it's all too overwhelming and frustrating. Why draw any further attention to the team?
This is where the club's previous and current lazy management are culpable for how this all plays out. Yes certain members of the playing group are compromising the situation, but this is a club management issue.
It provides further evidence of their ineptitude as it seems the players are culturally conditioned of not taking ownership, so it's another sign of dysfunction and toxicity in which the club are unable to handle it.
So who is reinforcing our supposed organisational values?
Admit I'm not a fan of his coaching, but it appears only Madge is attempting to take control of the situation while the club sits back and watches.

Admit I felt uncomfortable with and thought it was a bit unprofessional when he walked out of the sheds at half time during the Melbourne game, I believe that he owed it to the younger players to be there in support. However, I feel he's entitled to critique the players in any way he sees fit, especially when his reputation is in question.
I think what's most depressing is that the club has been for a fair while - and continues to look like - a runaway train, on every level.

IMO there's a reason why players see it normal to palm off responsibility when our own management are unwilling to get involved and sort it out.
This needs to be addressed regardless of who the coach is, as otherwise it'll just keep happening.

Well done Lauren. A very well thought out contribution on the Forum.

Nothing he said (about needing men) was unprofessional or impacted our business - we're already in the poo thanks to our weak willed playing roster.
You're the only one who thinks so.

We will see if he repeats what he said again. I suspect not.

Don't get me wrong I'm with you in that Madge's duty is to the team and it's performance but considering the lack of ongoing success(in many departments) is mostly due to the club's poor organisational culture, they need to be responsible in driving the success of the club.
This is what is stifling us IMO.
We gave Ivan free rein and it created our worse predicament, so we need to stop giving the perception that we're the club that have ineffective operations and inefficient management but are actually on top of things.

Our values and beliefs is what forms our club identity, so it's no good that our players who help define this aren't representing it appropriately or accordingly.

No I specifically said it appears this way, as we've been down this path before - for almost a decade. I can see the results of a lot of work that's been done but was only speaking on a cultural level.

100 % agree with this!! For too, long the players have run this club and look how thats gone !!

I would rather see the rookies having a go in first grade and get pumped by 50 rather than have this mob show up and pretend to look like they are interested and still get pumped by 50!!!

It will take time but if they give Madge the time to do it we will come out the other side in a great position

Herodotus was told by the Egyptians it took 20 years to build a pyramid with a force of 90,000. Can't but help notice the symmetry.

We will see if he repeats what he said again. I suspect not.

He doesn’t need to repeat it, it’s out there and the point has been made and you haven’t stopped repeating it.

Keeping on blaming Cleary 3 seasons later is a cop out, and Madge and his excuses are a cop out as well.

Get what you're saying Paws and as a fan it's all too overwhelming and frustrating. Why draw any further attention to the team?
This is where the club's previous and **current lazy management** are culpable for how this all plays out.

What makes you think that the current management are lazy?

No I specifically said it appears this way, as we've been down this path before. I can see the results of a lot of work that's been done but was only speaking on a cultural level.

Not jumping specifically on you here Lauren but all this faux outrage that Madge said "he is looking for men" is ridiculous. Madge is 1000% correct and if the players are upset about it, or if people around the players are implying there is anything wrong with that, then that is the whole problem.

Lauren, you talk of the issues at the club at a "cultural level". This club is doomed if there is a culture of fear around the words that the coach uses, especially when he is speaking the truth.

NRL would be close to the most violent and tough professional sports in the world. At the elite level is requires incredible skill and toughness to execute difficult skills, implement complex tactical plans all the while during or at the threat of great pain. Defence in particular is a mental mindset to push against natural instincts and many of the current players are simply not up to it.

They HAVE done it in games this year, demonstrating that they are capable, but lately have not had the attitude. This is EXACTLY what Madge is talking about and I'd be amazed if this is the first time the players have heard it.
