Very good news that Sheens will be the head coach with Maguire as the figurehead coach.
Congratulations to the club. With Sheens heading the coaching I have hope again.
Well done to Maguire for accepting the demotion to figurehead. it can't be easy.
We should all now get behind Sheens and the club and move into our improving future.

Wow that’s a winning move from the club if that’s the case ,Sheens head coach .. Maguire figurehead coach ? the new position created by the review board to cover everyone’s failures .
Well I suppose it’s like 6 home grounds now the board are collecting coaches you do not want to pay one out so you employ another only at the Tigers ??

We still need to get pascoe, Lee and hartigan away from first grade recruitment.

Hartigan needs to have final say on recruitment, with a little guidance from Sheens.

And surely with guidance from Madge as well Cochise.
He is the Head Coach, so surely he gets a say in who he feels he can best work with.

Should be the other way in my opinion.

Why?

I am more talking about as a mentor, I am happy for Madge and Sheens to have input into recruitment decisions, but strongly believe the final decision should rest with Hartigan.

Yeh fair enough, but I see Hartigan's role as finding the best available players possible and their $$$ value, then presenting that information to Sheens and Madge to select the player they feel are going to fit into our team the best from the coaching perspective.

I hate a rookie coach for us but Ciraldo is the real deal. I’d support the move.

Massive risk how will he be when the loses come thick and fast because they will come.

This is the problem they have to be honest with fans and give him time if they make this move.

I don't think a rookie coach is a great idea.

If the prospect is good enough, being in tune with both the modern game and youth, then us ready to roll for mine as long as given the necessary backing.

New coach, facilities, Sheens overseeing improved pathways and maybe a CEO, and ready to roll.

Our club is not the place for a Rookie coach.

I think with the core young group we have someone like ciraldo will bring the best in them. He understands the way the game is played now and being younger can relate easier with the players. He has been responsible for the best defence in the game for 2 years. With sheens attacking expertise on top I reckon we are on a winner.

I agree, I think a young coach is exactly what we need with all our young players

Sheens' presence is ready made for a younger coach.

How do we know Maguire has accepted it as yet?

We don't but you'd think he has little choice. Madge focus should be very narrow do what it takes to get into the 8 to save his career.

A lot of head coaches wont put up with being told what to do by someone else, and having their power and influence limited. If Madge has a strong backbone he could say it's my way or the highway. If he feels backed into a corner he could walk away.

He knows at best he's got one year to make the finals or he gets sacked next year.

Madge and Sheens were on the same team at Canberra and still share mutual respect, so they will work well together.

They already have been for quite a while. Nothing new here.

I think you and others are celebrating the "demotion" of Maguire a little prematurely. You're using posts on here, which may or may not be true, and then embellishing them to suit your agenda.

I don't think anyone on here, or anywhere, has said Tim Sheens will be the NRL head coach. It is rumoured that he take on a "coaching coordinator" role, that is, coordinating and supporting the work of all coaches in the club, including NRL Head Coach, Michael Maguire.

IF that is what happens, and I KNOW as little as you do about that, how is that a demotion for Maguire?

It should be simple. Finals in 2022 or he goes. No excuses. No other coach at any other club would survive 4 years without playing finals.

After he's gone, another review, new coach, 3 year rebuild, Rinse and repeat

Yeh fair enough, but I see Hartigan's role as finding the best available players possible and their $$$ value, then presenting that information to Sheens and Madge to select the player they feel are going to fit into our team the best from the coaching perspective.

I don't

We'll have to agree to disagree then.

He is the GM of Football, he is above Madge. He is not an analyst, it is his responsibility to build the roster.

I see both points of view here but it’s difficult to hold Madge accountable if he’s overruled with players he doesn’t agree with. Who then is held to account if Hartigan makes the decision to sign players and the results don’t improve?

I think Madge is probably a really good coach and we may look back in ten years and say what a great foundation he lay.

Although I think he has really struggled with the cattle at his disposal, and with 90% of the squad back next year, plus a couple with long term rehabs, I can’t see how he is going to turn things around. There would not be a bookie in town who hasn’t chalked us down for the spoon in 2022. Of course there is also a real chance that a new coach will also struggle. Anyway What have we got to lose by going down the new coach path. A new coach may be able to attract some new cattle, sell a new defensive pattern and have some fresh ideas….Of course it all depends on who we can get to coach.

Genuine question. How does that work with the concept of a coach's accountability? I wouldn't want to be accountable if I didn't have final say on my team.

A new coach could do well,he also could do worse....the key will be in the spending on NRL standard players, because as we all have seen this squad atm isnt hard NRL standard yet...most of our talented young guys are still learning and developing, there will be errors and injuries so lets keep a positive mind and hope that all turns out better next season than this one was...

if this squad puts some pride in the jersey and competes for 80 minutes we will be a vastly improved football team, it doesn't matter who the coach is. if the players say they want to play for Madge it's about time they showed it, because if they dish up what they did this year he will be gone.

defence is all about attitude. yes our assistant coaches are dinosaurs, but we showed very little intent this year. attack is a little bit different, but there are plenty of games you can pick out where we looked lifeless and bereft of ideas as well.

Agree. The gap between our best and our worst is far too big. You could blame young players if they weren’t our most consistent.

Why would Ciraldo knock us back not many opportunities to coach 1st grade. he wouldn't even need to move his family . Every other club looking for a coach would be down the bottom of the ladder like us. Plus our new COE things are looking good for the future.

I don't think he even wants to come here so its all speculation, but I will put this out there....

In 12 months time when Trent Barrett is struggling, Phil Gould makes good on a promise for a former disciple Cameron Ciraldo and says " Son, we have a nice club here, lots of dollars, already some Panther juniors here and more on the way.....lets say you stay at the Panthers for another 12 months and I'll call you next June?"

I am certain that conversation has already taken place.
