Martin Taupau - Discussion Thread

Maybe they're making good on the NSW cup threat Yoss? Still games to be played there it would seem.

Then we'd be playing well north of $1m to have Matt Ballin playing first grade and Farah in the reggies. If management can't understand who stupid that is what hope is there? We might as well beg Keith Barnes to come on as CEO. He'd never let crap like this happen.

700K is the reported figure so Yeah…Good Luck to them...We certainly weren't paying him 550K next year...

Geez I dunno how manly would have had a spare 700k in their cap. Even so, sounds like Marty was adamant he was leaving at the end of his contract regardless if tigers could match the offer or not. Smells like something else

\

In a stunning coup, 25-year-old Taupau will join the Sea Eagles from 2016 on a four-year deal in one of the club's biggest signings since Malcolm Reilly.

We didn't match it…i don't think he's going there for a pie and a coke a week...

Geez he's a good player but they're overhyping it a bit.

Ballin, Farah, and Cherrington in the top 25??

Please.

If that happens I will join the tin hat wearing anti-JT brigade.

Oh no, dear Marty is gone. I don't know how we are gonna cover his massive 20 minutes per game output. And where are we gonna get another palm-off highlight? (In all reality that game was one of very few highlights for Taupau in a WT jersey last season) His standout game for 2015 wasn't with us anyhow it was for the Kiwis. So long poser, see how roided up you can get at Manly until your figs explode. Looking forward to more strutting for the cameras on and off the paddock for Marty in 2016 and beyond. Absolutely striking memory of Marty from this season is the Leichhardt game vs Raiders when Nuasaala clipped Sue on the chin and 'hardman' Marty was standing RIGHT THERE and declined to get involved. Couldn't imagine Blocker standing idly by while someone is having a go at his mate. So long Martay, don't forget to take your cornrows, pregame dumbbells for the camera and mid-game on-field push ups with ya. Would of preferred a few extra tackles or hit-ups than the onfield circus performance. Next bloke up….......

Yoss, without turning this thread into another Farah discussion, there's a(re) reason(s) as to why Farah was given permission to negotiate elsewhere that we're not privy to. I know that this clubs mismanagement is legendary but that particular situation transcends that. You don't hock your marquee player and be willing to pay most of the fare unless there's something going on.

Its being reported that Tigers have released Taupau and he has signed a 4 years deal with Manly.

Although we probably all knew he would eventually leave I am really surprised the Tigers would let him break his contract…..he was obligated to play for us in 2016.

This just goes to show how weak our club is when they allow players to come and go as they like. I commented recently that they should take a stand but obviously our club does not like to stand in the way of better opportunities.

Well on that basis if I was Woodsy, Teddy, Simona, Brooks and Moses I'd be asking for a release as well. Why stick around on a shinking ship when the club does not care about keeping quality players.

Its no wonder most supporters are sick and tired of this club.

No Guts, No backbone.

He is staying this season and leaving for Manly the season after. It's clear as day from his comments above. Wish he'd just come out and say that. He still might and I'll applaud him if he does.

Looks like, for the short term, we'll be weakening our roster to make it stronger. Doesn't look good for Taylor. The media will make sure he gets the sack if results don't go our way. When we come good from it all, at least he'll be able to say he was the architect of it because I highly doubt he'll be in charge when it happens.

"Clear as day"?

Where exactly did he say that he will be leaving?

Get a grip. Or perhaps, loosen the grip?

Oh cmon - he's had every chance here to answer a pretty simple question about his future and done the opposite. It's not clear as day that he's choosing Manly but his comments inspire little confidence in his desire to stay with us. My grip is pretty spot on.

The problem with some people on this forum is that they make comments, not on what is said, but what they perceive of what was said. He said nothing, I repeat, nothing about leaving, Manly, money, or any other club.

Can people just WAIT and see what happens instead of bloviating about something that they know absolutely nothing about.

Col you're talking sense  and i agree.

Could not of said it any better no great lose IMO .. just the limp response and action from the club , just seems so easy for players to get what they want all the time a bit of bravado and stand your ground would be nice once in a while .

I did notice that he has not been present in any of the photos for the new clothing range…..then again, neither has Robbie...

Interestingly enough strange how another leak preceded a hasty response from the club. Where did that happen before…?

This may or may not be true but frankly the club isn't in a position to do these things. Either he's done something contrary to his contract and he gets released or they find a way to make it work. Warehousing him in park football at close to a mill a year isn't feasible in trying to prove some point.

So….

Marty Tapau asks for a release from a contract - club offloads him
Robbie Farah wants to honour his contract - club tries to offload him

Why bother signing promising players to long term contracts taking a gamble if you let them leave before the contract ends? We're assuming the risk and not taking the full reward.

He won't play two years in reggies Yoss, that's the idea behind it.

Anyway, I'm derailing the thread.

If we could snare Dylan Walker (if he is in fact on the outer at Souths,) as well I'd say that would be a fair result for this sequence of events.
