Meyer: cambo has once last chance

@Irvine said:
Wests Tigers has neglected the Campbelltown region for 15 years. Campbelltown are not interested in an inner city team that comes out west every 2 months.

Funny how facts dont back that up. The club spends more than double in promoting in Campbelltown than it does in the Inner West.

**"It is difficult to reconcile that we got 16,500 people at Leichhardt in the rain and we won against one of the competition heavyweights, yet six days later we can only get 6500 people at one of the best venues in rugby league."**

I can damn well reconcile it - when was the last time we were actually scheduled to play another Sydney team at Campbelltown??? All the Campo matches, in recent memory, have been against interstate sides who have little, or no, supporters living in Sydney, so we never get the benefit of having their fans filling some of the seats, alongside our own. I mean how many times have we had matches against North Qld scheduled there? And now the next one is against bloody Brisbane - seriously! How about getting some matches against Parramatta, Manly or Canterbury scheduled there for once!

there should still be more than 6000 wests tigers fans there

Yes there should, so why aren't the same supporters, who are packing out Leichhardt every time going to Campbelltown as well?

Firstly, I am disgusted with the crowd tonight. We have struggled at Campbelltown to pull a crowd for years. Yes it rained, but it stopped raining before the Under 20s. That is not an excuse.

Sunday footy against the Panthers in 2013 - Round 2, pulled a shocking crowd of 9,715.

Playing Sydney clubs is not the answer and won't change. Ticket prices may have something to do with it. $30 for GA is a joke for a start.

Grant Mayer said that the break even for Campbelltown is a crowd of 11,000\. We haven't reached that 3 times in the last 5 games played.

Tonight's crowd of 6,456 is the THIRD lowest at an NRL match played at Campbelltown. Not since R25, 2003 have we had a lower crowd (6,158).

**WHY THE HELL DON'T YOU GUYS TURN UP!**

LAST FIVE GAMES at CAMPBELLTOWN:
6,456 v Cowboys (R6 '14)
11,162 v Manly (R20 ’13)
7,833 v Raiders (R15 ’13)
11,547 v Broncos (R7 ’13)
9,715 v Penrith (R2 ’13)

Finally - someone speaking common sense and with the facts to back it up. :master:

hahaha. I always back things up with facts :stuck_out_tongue:

Wests Tigers can't continue to put games on at a loss. $10 tickets for Broncos match is the last chance for people of Campbelltown to turn out. If we don't crack 20K with that offer on tickets. It's time to call it quits.

I would love to know what people of Campbelltown and other fans from outside the area won't travel.

When all the discussion was on about the clubs possible future relocation to WA, Mayer said how committed he was to the MacArthur region. Tonight he's giving it one last chance. Thankfully ground allocation is not his decision to make.

For the corresponding game last year, the Cowboys match only drew an extra 700 when it was played at Leichhardt. And the Storm match drew even less than tonight. I think some on here are just a bit opportunistic in their criticism of one venue over the other.

Maybe Mayer can do what Phil Gould did last night and wrangle up a transport deal. Old mate Bazza O'Fazza is a Tigers fan, what about free trains to Leumeah?

Very disappointing crowd considering the cheap tickets on offer; no rain; a winning team the crowd had an opportunity to say they want an NRL team
Out west and they blew it.

Not sure why Mayer wanted to apologise to the fans who went tonight. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and can't wait for the next match.

I live in Picnic Point, CMBO is not hard to get to down the M5 for me.

I thought about going to the game but in honesty it was the weather that kept us including 4 kids away.

Not worth the headache and the risk for a family on a damp hill.

Thinking about the Monday game at Parra or better at Homebush cause even though it costs more Its that extra cover and comfort for the family.

I went to tonight's match and I didn't think the crowd was that low. I thought it was more 10,000 people which would still be disappointing.

I'm not sure what the answer is. We have a winning team playing exciting footy. The fans just aren't turning up at Campbelltown and I don't know why. It's a good venue and one of the easier ones in the city in regards to getting out of.

Totally agree. Apart from Farah getting hurt, it was a great night!

Only someone who lives there, or has never been there needs to answer that question.

the WT's involvement with the macarthur region wouldn't stop even if there were no games in CS and encompass a lot more than just the FG side.

I'm sure he also meant the junior development, player signings, and other member events that go on throughout the year.

He's done his best to engage the area and to have 6.5k turn up is really a slap in the face so he's implying games may be reduced there if we keep getting sub 10k crowds when our team is 5th (now 2nd). i dont blame him whatsoever.

i mentioned it on another thread, highest crowd ever at CS is 20k against the cowboys. so why doesn't the interstate argument hold there? oh right, cause we were in good form back then. certain wooden spooners at the moment :unamused:

I thought there was at least 9k tonight and will say that I didn't think there was any more that 12k last week. At least thats what would have been announced in the 80s.

So are you implying that they're fidgeting with the numbers? :astonished: What reasons could they possibly have for doing that?

I was at the game last year v NQ at LO. They should have handed out medals to attendees. To compare that with tonight is a bit much.
