sad to see mitch go but he does deserve to be in the first squad. to me he is a valuable utility but if he reckons he can cement a regular first spot in his preferred position i wish him good luck

Can't believe they let him go. I would have had him at fullback ever since he covered the position at the back end of 2010 WHICH GOT US THROUGH THE FINALS. He was outstanding.

Other than that,he was an an outside back who was given plenty of opportunities but really failed to grasp them(7 tries in 39 games isnt outstanding),& hence is position in the pecking order
We'll only miss him if another f/b goes down

The call on the 39 games is harsh… He spent quite a few of those riding the pine only come out at the death and play a couple of minutes. His season at left wing last year was sabotaged by Moltzen as well who didn't know how to pass the ball to the left.

Personally im happy to see the back of this guy. As a club we dont need a big, strong, fast outside back who just does his job with no fuss, no fanfare and no off field drama. Pfftt…who needs a player like that??
I wish Mitch all the best and hope he plays consistant first grade for the rest of his career. He isnt the first player that didnt quite get the opportunities he deserved and he wont be the last, thats football.

Brown wants Bulldogs NRL centre spot

In a week where he might have been handed the Wests Tigers fullback spot full-time, talented utility back Mitch Brown on Monday made a mid-season switch to Canterbury in search of a NRL starting spot.
Brown, who has played 40 games for the Tigers in the past two seasons at fullback, centre and on the wing, made the decision last week to leave the Tigers in the final year of his contract.
Brown's manager Gavin Orr stepped up negotiations over the weekend - before a season-ending knee injury to young Tigers fullback James Tedesco suffered in Sunday's golden-point victory over Cronulla - and finalised the move on Monday.
Brown admits Tedesco's injury is poorly timed and, had it happened in the last week of pre-season, could have impacted on his decision.
"It probably would have, to be honest," Brown told AAP on Monday.
The versatile 24-year-old had two fruitful years under Tigers coach Tim Sheens but felt a move was necessary to further his career rather than become stuck behind centres Chris Lawrence and Blake Ayshford.
"They've got really good centres. It's pretty tough," Brown said.
"As you can see, the backline at the Tigers was a very good one.
"I just don't want to be stuck playing reserve grade or whatnot.
"The opportunity arose, so I grabbed it."
Brown has been earmarked by Bulldogs coach Des Hasler as a potential right-centre, and someone who will provide coverage of all the outside back positions.
"(Hasler) sees me more as a centre, which I'm very happy to play," Brown added.
"That's where I played all my footy in the juniors, and I do prefer playing right-centre or fullback."
The off-contract Brown was excited to be working under Hasler, who has built a reputation as one of the competition's best coaches, getting the most out of the likes of Michael Robertson, Steve Matai and Joe Galuvao during his time at Manly.
"That was a big part on moving to the Dogs. I've seen what he does (to fringe players)," Brown said.
"I've got a couple of mates at the Dogs and they've said nothing but good things about him and how professional he is with the team."

So, it will be interesting to see the doggies team sheet this week - I work with a mad doggies fan who reckons Jonathon Wright had a massive game against the Panthers, and of course doesn't rate Mitch Brown (but lets face it, who outside of us does?)

Such a shame :frowning: I agree with the general sentiments in this thread, he wasn't given enough of a chance.
Sometimes don't understand Sheens' logic..
Good luck to Mitch I hope his career takes off but will be sad to see him playing in Dogs colours.

Sorry,but he was the quintessential journeyman,& whilst I wish him well(as I do all players who have behaved professionally with us) I think he'll pose the same threat to us as Collis/Crockett/McDonnell/Gallant/Morris & co who left us in similiar circumstances in recent years
PS By August we may just be looking for someone..anyone..reasonably safe under the high ball,but we'll see!!
