Mitchell Pearce

Newcastle would be thereabouts for Pearce. They'd have the most money to throw at him. They'd probably be getting SKD, Guerra and Watson to all put in the good word.

They'd be pretty formidable next year with a half like Pearce.

But ain't his fun time in Sydney? Who wants to spend half their day in a car - Mason had no choice.

I'm from there - pretty appealing lifestyle. The CBD is only getting better. Would have the same allure as living at Cronulla and his +$1mil deal will go a lot further up there.

It certainly didn't slow down the John's bro's in their day….

I reckon Newy are in with a really good shot.

Yeah the Wests Tigers need to relocate to a beach area. We'd have much more hope of getting the good players then ?

But if Pearce went to Newcastle and they failed everyone would point their finger at him.

No different than if he went to Manly. They are notorious for throwing the halfback under the bus.

Best outcome for Pearce is the Sharks. Do Manly have the cap space or will someone have to go to free up space? Perhaps no one wants to go.

I reckon Pearce would be great at Melbourne. Would thrive under Bellamy and would love to see a NSW player in that spine.

Melbourne don't want him.

Ah - sorry I missed that .

interesting, isn't it who is talking about recruiting Pearce:

Manly, after backing a 1M a year contract for DCE now have the money for Pearce?

Cronulla, after hiring Dugan, now have the money for Pearce? (Ok Gallen and Co are retiring, so they may have cap room).

Then Melbourne briefly threw their hat into the ring… However they actually did not have the money for Pearce (I suspect he said No, then they revealed that they did not have the money).

Pearce I hope will goto the Knights. They need him and I think he would benefit from their culture. But I am just amazed at how teams can just pull contracts out of a hat.

It's gonna be Manly peeps, no contest. They're probably just having to make some adjustments to fit him in, hence the delay in announcing.

He lives in Belrose…Manlys perfect for him in that regard

Belrose…that's half way to Newcastle...

If Pearce goes to the Knights on a 5 or 6 year deal I can see a sad ending....

Given their poor spine and seemingly flexible cap, I am surprised that the dogs have not made a play for him

We all seem to be saying that Easts are giving low ball contracts and high ball TPAs. **This would be totally against the rules for contracting players as they have to be contracted at "market value".** In other words you can't sign Cooper Cronk or James Tedesco at $200,000 and then fill their pockets with TPAs or the NRL, if they haven't gone to sleep at the wheel when registering Easts contracts, would have to refuse the registration of the contracts. It seems obvious then that other (secret) payments must be in play, not just TPAs.

If the club offer secret payments and players accept them (and I'm no lawyer) the laws about secret commissions might come into play.

I don't think there are necessarily any 'secret' payments being made. **If a club can work out what the NRL will accept as a minimum contract payment is for any given player, they offer that and no more.** Thus they would get a premium player for that players minimum acceptable wage and reduce their cap exposure. At the same time though, if they expect to attract said player, they would have to organise a TPA or host of TPA's to augment the contract.

So I wonder how the NRL calculates this? And how much flexibility there is in their y
estimation??

From what I read, they don’t pay their main players below what they should, but they also don’t pay their younger potential players 6 or 700,000 like we did with Brooks and Moses. The reasoning given was “if they are paid superstar money, they think they are superstars.they have to earn the big money “ if it’s true it sounds fair enough to me
The opposite way hasn’t worked for us

Story out today said Pearce had been in contact with Connor Watson about his thoughts on Knights.

Stranger things have happened…

Knights are the ones with the financial clout to make an offer he can't refuse. He'd be reuniting with a bunch of Roosters cast offs. Manly might be down the road but if Newcastle offers a million quid it's going to make it hard for JJ to say no.

The Roosters don't sign the likes of Cooper Cronk, Pearce JWH etc under market value, but they do sign the likes of Connor Watson Napa and the lesser known players way under market value.
Plus they have access to a lot of corporate donors for their TPA's.
Go and read GCT post on page 16 that's exactly how the Roosters operate, I have read an article from their Salary Cap manager and it's exactly how GCT said it works.
Pay good money to the superstars nothing to the others until they become superstars themselves.
