Mitchell Pearce

It'll be interesting how Newcastle go next year. They look to have a decent squad with a lot more quality players than what we have. I still think we may go better than them because I think our side will hopefully be tough and have plenty of depth.

I agree but I do think, with the Pearce signing, Newcastle have bought better than us overall. I don't rate him at SOO level but I believe he's a very good first grade half and will lift Newcastle next year. If they click next year they'll be strong contenders for the top 8.

Packer-es ses or however you spell it.
Matulino-lillyman
Reynolds-watson
Lolohea-ponga
Mcqueen-stone/matautia
Milne-moga.

Plus we poached heath gibbs and sam mcintyre from them.. i think overall we have recruited much better than the knights. Now Pearce has signed with them expectations go through the roof the johns bros think they are a top 8 side now.. if things dont work out its good buy nathan brown.

I think they could be a quality team who could really push for the 8\. I'm not confident we will push for the 8\. Next year is going to be interesting because there have been a lot of changes.

Not just Pearce now, but Ese Ese, Guerra and Moga are all quality players in their prime and Ponga & Watson are touted for big things. Not that 'potential' always manifests, as we well know, but regardless, **I think they have definitely bought better than us.**

And?

Even if that is correct, which is debeateble, why does that have to reflect on us?

I am responding to and agreeing with the posts above me, hence the quotes.

The halves merry go round still not quite finished - Knights surely will release Hodgkinson.

Hasn't he already signed a three year deal in the ESL? I swear I saw something about that a couple of months ago…

In any case, good on the Knights. I am glad Pearce didn't end up at Cronulla, that would have been an absolute farce.

They'll be good for each other, he'll blend in pretty well since three or four other ex-Easts players wound up there too. I hope Newy give it a good shake next year, god knows their fans deserve it.

Have to laugh at Manly - released Green on the expectation they would get Pearce. Now they only have DCE in the halves.

Now they'll be left with either Hodkinson or Lamb. Both inferior to Green.

Newcastle fast becoming the place where all old Roosters go to die!! At least the Sharks didn't get Pearce as that would have made a mockery of the so called cap being in place to spread the talent.

YES!
I am just so glad a struggling team gets a chance at the 8\. Sure it's not us but Newcastle has been kicked in the guys year in year out.

Hmm I wonder what Brock Lamb or Hodgkinson are doing. I expect Manly to push to sign one of them.

Just looked it up, nothing solid about Hodkinson signing anywhere, just rumours to have been looking in the ESL.

I would take Hodkinson off their hands! He and Reynolds were a great combo, could be good for us I reckon.

It reflects on us in that, not only did have they picked up some quality players: but now have
strengthened their team even more with the signing of one of the best club halfbacks in the game. Before this, theymay have moved up a couple of rungs on the ladder next year, now with a top halfback ,they are a real possibility of at least getting close to the 8.
They certainly have a better half than we do, (at this time).
Every team that can genuinely have a crack at the 8 makes it harder for us to get there.
Simple arithmetic.
Remember. This crew have had the wood on us moretimes than not recently, without a decent halfback

Not with his "dickie" legs he wouldn't be good for us.

Their chances have certainly improved, but they have to make it work on the park, so do we for that matter.

Each season has its twist and turns. But not sure if we can say they or we have bought better.
